Velocity Script

If it is any help while you wait for one of those who know how to fix this to reply, I can verify that my Ally 'has' a System/bin/velocity folder. It is marked with one of the little gold shield icons, which I think means protected system files. I can't open it with Root Explorer to tell you what is inside the folder. It just does nothing when I tap on it. But it is there.

Sorry I can't be more help. :)

I also have it. I know its there it just wont register or something. I really dont know. :/ thanks anyway.

Also, i flashed back to velocity with nothing on it. Dunno if i mentioned that. Still same issue

I have not time to read through all posts but here are some FYI clarifications:

To get DLC you NEED to be on the latest script version, please flash the zip if you didnt get an auto update

All servers other than SAVOXIS.COM are no longer alive, I am NOT paying the 20+ a month to keep them alive. Savoxis.com is essentially free to me

So if you cant get anything to work.... use the zip and update, if things are still broken let me know and when/if I get this phone sent to me I will correct all the issues.

PS: /system/bin/velocity is the main script itself. Not a folder.

Well, I figure I might be able to contribute something here. I've had trouble updating/running the Velocity script for some time now, but didn't think it was a problem with the site... my phone's been so unstable lately (failed hacks, I'm guessing - my bad), I assumed it was the phone's fault.

But now I'm running a wget to http://50.56.77.160/velocity/scripts/velocity (as in the big red post here), and I get a timeout - the server times out on my PC browser too. I'm guessing the site's down? As a server admin myself I know the pain :)

On that note, that's where I might be able to help. I run a freebie file host with a pretty sleek UI and no ads/inbetweener download pages, just direct links to files (which are served through a one-hop redirect after being statistically logged and verified). That site's at Hostfile.org - Ad-Free File Hosting, direct linking, redirection, thumbnailing, JPG PNG ZIP RAR WMA OGG AVI FLV etc! - maybe it could serve as a good free host for the Velocity script? There's a ton of neat tools and functions on there that may help (hit count, virtual file redirection, etc)... that site's been online serving all users' files for about 5 years now... I'd love to help out if I can :)

Meanwhile, I'm'a go scour the past 2 recent and 2 first pages to see if there's a hint about the new mirror URL... really want to get my script up to date :/

You should be able to download version 41 here http://goo.gl/7xoOs go to recovery, disable verification. and flash it. then go into velocity scripts and use option 4. script options 1. update scripts if version 41 doesn't update to version 42 automatically.

Thanks, these instructions worked perfectly for me. Script functioning flawlessly after flashing the newer rev.

Question...how does the no clock mod work? Does it a: replace the currently installed services.jar with a pre modded one? Or b: pull the currently installed services.jar and do the mods on it?

Well, since savoxis.com is dead, so is the script it seems. I hacked together a duct-tape-and-paperclip solution for relocating the dalvik-cache folder to /cache/dalvik-cache that seems to be working for now. Oh *god* I'm staggeringly stunned at how stupid a core Android OS design decision that was to put it on "/data"... there is... ABSOLUTELY no perceivable reason that it's not placed on /cache to begin with.

That said, there's currently no source I can find for neither the Velocity script nor the Velocity ROM. All links (Mediafire and savoxis.com) are dead, and tragically, on this day, Velocity is 100% unobtainable and... dead. :(

Any devs still out there that can at least help someone (me!) leave a perma-link available for future's sake? The link rot in the Android community is really tragic... :/

I've probably still got the last Velocity ROM release I had used archived in old download files on bluray. But I can't offer any support at all. That was 3 phones ago for me. :) Do you need a copy of the ROM?

Me too, it's old - just helping a friend out with an old phone! I know it's less unstable than the junk stock ROM though, that's what matters. I just hope to host it somewhere it can be archived for people in the future.

If you can find that BD-R and pull it off, that would be awesome, like digging into archives for that old film roll. xD

Question is how to get it to me. Maybe do mediafire "this one last time" (knowing THAT link will go dead again) and I can DL it and post it on my Dropbox?

Thanks to Zoandroid, there's now a permanent archive of Velocity 1.2.1 and script version 41! Here's the link to the ZIP:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/35284720/postfiles/Velocity ROM 1.2.1 for LG ALLY.zip

That's in a folder I don't move files out of, so if I ever need more space I'm probably going to buy a Dropbox plan (but right now I'm still using the free offering). It's limited by bandwidth but allows 20GB per day (per LINK) and I don't believe I'm coming anywhere close to that. Feel free to use it, spread it, abuse it, and use it for the original post if you like :)
