[Verizon] [App] Root Toolkit for Android

Version 1.3 just uploaded to the Market:

[version 1.3 - 22-April-2012]:

- support freezing (disabling) or thawing (enabling) applications

..(take care before deciding to freeze a system app)

These updates weren't as easy or straight-forward as I had imagined it would be--no wonder there's so few apps out there that have the freeze/thaw feature ;) :).

Cheers and enjoy!

New version published last night with some new features I thought would be useful to all:

Here's the change log:

[version 1.5 - 27-June-2012]:

- support options for saving a newer su binary (currently v3.0.3.2) instead of the currently installed su binary; helps ensure root is retained when restoring root (especially after an OTA update)

- support ability to remove saved root

- added some device information to Current Root & Mount Status screen

- Galaxy Nexus only: 1) support stock 4.0.4 recoveries for GSM & LTE versions, 2) include ability to flash new Team Win Recovery Project touch recoveries

Cheers and let me know if you have any questions :).

New version just published to the Market:

[version 1.7 - 20-August-2012]:

- directly test root access instead of inferring from state of root binaries

- more Samsung Galaxy Nexus features:

..* lock, unlock, or display status of the bootloader (currently only for PRIMELA03 and PRIMELC03 bootloaders)

..* support toroplus (Sprint CDMA) stock 4.0.4 recovery (not official)

..* support maguro (International GSM/HSPA) 4.1.1 stock yakju / takju recoveries

- remove option to save a newer version of the su binary

- various other minor tweaks

Enjoy! :)

Thanks Scary!

I still use CWM for my Nexus Prime but I used your app to flash TWRP on my N7! So easy!

Million thanks!

jmar, the name isnt prime, its nexus :p

and if you throw the device and say "NEXUS PRIME... MAXIMIZE!!!"
you are going to end up with either a lost phone. or a broken one... fair warning

:):p:D

I have been trying to flash the original rom but I keep getting the dead android popping up when I go into recover mode. I'm running 4.1 right now. I have even tried using the Nexus ToolKit but no luck.

Can anyone get me back on track?

Thanks

BCM,

Not sure what you mean by the original ROM...(factory / stock image)? You don't flash those via custom recovery but via fastboot, by the way...

It sounds like you are just having trouble making the flash custom recovery "stick", use the app's "Make recovery stick" option to rename the /system/recovery-from-boot.p file and then flash your desired custom recovery.

Also, don't want anyone to be confused between this app and WugFresh's Root Toolkit--two totally different creatures.

Just trying to flesh-out the details here...let us know and we'll try to get you sorted.

Cheers!

Thank you SO much for replying.

I am trying to restore to the one of the stock roms.

Every time I try to reboot to recovery I get the dead android with the red exclamation. I have tried so many different things about a dozen times each.

I'm going a little crazy and any help is VERY appreciated.

I tried creating the recovery stick then booting into recovery and that is where I kill the android.

Well, if you have a VZW GNex, this post: How to un-root (return to stock) will walk you through resetting things back to 4.0.4.

You'll need to have the fastboot USB drivers installed and use the fastboot utility to re-flash the stock/factory images as is described in the post.

I'm not sure what could be the issue with your use of WugFresh's Root Toolkit since I've read from many folks that it works wonderfully and is an awesome and simple tool. But I've not personally used it (preferring to everything manually myself), so I can't give you any tips or advice regarding that utility.

If you are rooted and using my app, then the "Make Recovery Stick" function and then flashing a custom recovery should work. But, like I said before, you wouldn't use a custom recovery to flash the stock images--that's a job left for fastboot.

Hope that helps!

I thought the "dead" android guy was what you got if you tried to enter recovery if you didn't have a custom one loaded?

(at least I thought it was on my Dinc.)

Yup just confirmed on my GN (I just replaced mine and haven't rooted yet)
