Root [Verizon] BOOM!

And on the same day I get my S3, the bootloader gets unlocked. That's just amazing timing!! Still going to get used to the phone before I dive into this. Going to wait for the devs to get working on Jelly Bean before I do anything.

Is there anywhere that shows the downloader is unlocked?? When I unlocked mine the screen kinda flashed it didn't reset or anything is that normal?

one quick question...im rooted running synergy 1.7 (actually a later nightly build)...just unlocked my boot loader...so can i now just flash cm10 or cm9 just like anything else?...and it will all just work?...or do I need to find a build of cyanogenmod that is made for verizon...sorry for the noobish question...lol

p.s. I would kinda like to get a fully stable and functional cm9 instead of a buggy cm10 any links would be appretiated!

I don't exactly remember, but I do know that the phone reset itself. I believe the screen said hit enter when it was done or something like that. The way people are telling if it worked is if the Samsung logo goes by really quickly on reboot. We're still trying to figure out another way other than trying to flash a non kexec kernel.

nothing...there is no performance benefit to an unlocked bootloader

Metfanant...You know I ask you a ton of questions and trust your judgment...so since you state that there is no performance benefit (and since I know nothing about boatloader)....what benefit do you get from an unlocked boatloader?

Yeah Samsung logo goes by lightning fast and then the Samsung boot animation. This phone boots so fast now@!!

The benefits in the future will be huge not many now!

having an unlocked bootloader means that custom kernels can be flashed to the device. This will really open the verizon s3 up to the whole development community. Lots of custom tweaks will be able to happen because the encryption is not there anymore.

Thanks guys....I will look into it. I am still learning but do not want to screw my phone up. Once unlocked, are most of you installing a specific ROM or just messing with the kernels more than anything?

I rooted the phone just have not messed with the ROM, only looked at the Nova and Apex launchers. Waiting to get an SD card first..

I wouldn't touch the kernel with a ten foot pool. I leave all that up to the developers. If I like what they've done when I load a rom, I will then usually donate to them to keep the good work flowing. I would highly suggest you do a lot of reading and getting used to your phone before you start flashing roms. If you aren't sure about something ask questions first. It will save you a lot of headaches down the road. Always follow instructions explicitly as they are written too. If you don't understand what they've written or how to do something, don't do it. That's the fastest way to brick your phone. That being said, flashing roms sounds a lot more daunting than it really is. As for different launchers, you can change those til your heart's content, you don't have to be rooted or anything to switch out launchers. Just remember, read first, ask questions second, flash third.

I totally agree. I have ZERO plans on messing with anything. I will install a new ROM and launcher and that's about it. One thing I have noticed is how many different ROM's are out there...almost as many as there are "What's the best ROM" thread. Digging through all that information and finding one you like can take some time. I generally look at what someone like you (someone that knows a lot more than I do) has for a ROM and then go read up on it.

Thanks a million.

sure can...but frankly im not sure why you would want to...

i think in some circles there is a little bit of an "e-peen" self ego stroking to avoid tools and be able to say...

"well i pushed it with adb because im a BA Mofo"

not sure i get it :D

I did it with adb. I personally did it because i grew up with dos commands and while this isn't dos commands, unix/linux have similar language and commands. If you have any inkling of understanding the OS and so forth, it makes it fun.

Everything can't be as easy as click and done. You learn nothing from it (:

So quick question...
is flashing roms now as easy as it should be...just putting the zip on the SD card and using Clockwork to flash it?

So which rom you gonna flash first jbdan? I'm running Synergy nightlies fyi. Very nice rom.

Well ya know, I was going to ask for your advice ;-)

Is synergy the way to go atm? On xda? I've noticed a slight amount of lag today but haven't had much time to really play with the phone yet. I've disabled 15 apps lol.

Synergy is just the ROM right no kernels or radios this early in the game right?

Yeah there is a noticeable performance boost imo, with out the bloat
