Verizon Going With Tiered Data.

Am I the only one who is wishing for the tiered plan to happen soon?
If you are actually using this as a work phone (meaning when you travel, you have wifi at the office), you are not likely to be using more than 2GB a month, although there would be some exceptions.

Don't mine either. Just make the 2GB option $20 so I can save $10 per line. Maybe add the corporate discount in there too. If its only $5 dollars difference I'm sticking with my unlimited.
My brother and I are on sprint, but my dad has 5 lines on Verizon for the rest of the family. He really does not know anything about phones and i do everything for him on the plans. He was looking to get a new phone, like the droid or droid x, but after i reviewed his usage he never uses any data, and i mean none, 0mb per month, the only time he had any were times i was using the phone when i did a few speed tests one month. So it is pointless for him to get a smartphone if he is going to have to tack on $30.
Right now they have the connect plan which is no longer available, and his unlimited data is included in the base price and my brothers unlimited is only $20, which is really just the charge for each additional line for the connect plans, they both have env touch, the rest of the phones don't have data and are on a different plan(still same shared just no data) and are only $9.99 per month extra for the lines, one being a blackberry with the $30 for data. My little brother is really the only one that uses data, averages about 1gb each month. We are now looking at just switching my dad to a dumb text phone since he does not use the data anyway and give the touch to my sister. However, what happens with these caps could change that, if say they had something like att, 250mb for like $15($10 would be better), he could get himself a better phone but not have to pay a lot for data he is not using. Android alone will use data so i understand why no data plan is something you can not do, but i am guessing he would stay under a cap like that. For instance, the blackberry on the account only uses 65-100mb per month. The only thing is if we upgrade one plan, most likely we will lose the $20 unlimited for my little brother, hopefully it can be similar to the blackberry where it is on the $10 for extra phone plan with the data charge, and the two touches can stay on the connect with unlimited. It will be a shame if he has to get something like the Samsung intensity (?) instead of the dorid, the droid is only $20 on upgrade at walmart, and the text phones i saw at Verizon the other day that did not require any data plans were $50-$60.
I for one would be hurt by the caps, have used over 10gb in the 7 weeks i have had the evo, so i understand others getting up in arms, but i am guessing most people are like my family and are not using the phones that much, so there is no need for unlimited for most of my family, or most people, just a waste of money.
i think having unlimited along with other tier options would actually make more money for verizon. I know alot of people who would like a smart phone but dont want to pay the $29.99 a month so if verizon was smart they should keep unlimited and add 1 or 2 tiers along with it
I thought I read an article, weeks prior to the release of the Droid X, that stated Verizon would not be following AT&T in their cap on data plans (according to the CEO of Verizon). I don't have the link though, so I can't exactly back up that statement.
I think it's horrible that Verizon would consider capping the data plans. What happens to the people who use over 2GB per month? Before we know it we'll be paying our ISPs for the amount of bandwidth we use.

our local ISP already tried that. Thankfully everyone flipped out and they withdrew the idea
Actually some ISP's are known for throttling the speed when you download too much. I have talked with some people from VZW corporate and they all say that this isn't happening. Maybe when LTE rolls out, but possibly then it will only be an charge like what sprint is doing with 4g. I wouldn't waste time worrying about it.

Since there is no evidence of tiered plans happening, what in your mind would even consider the option of you not getting unlimited...? I'm very curious.
Are always on the road?
Without going into too much detail (for privacy), what do you use it for?

just figured i would rather be safe and get grandfathered into the unlimited before they change anything. I saw a few articles saying end of July (but nothing confirmed or from Verizon). But if I waited until they announce it I would be too late to be grandfathered in

Well it won't be coming for a few months or until LTE or possibly never at all. Who knows? But they aren't going to change they way things have been for years for now reason.
When we signed up with Verizon's a couple of years ago, we got in on an unlimited plan. soon after they changed the plan to a 5g limit (2 months later). We STILL have an unlimited plan and are now on a month-to-month, as our contract has expired. Should we change modems, go with a smart phone, then, of course, all bets are off. I would think this would hold true with the smart phones, but, of course, that remains to be seen...
Tiered plans would be fine if they would be priced nicely and don't make current users pay more, but they almost certainly will not be. The only reason they would introduce tiered data plans is if they are not making enough money or are losing money with the current plans. That means two things can happen: You can pay the same amount and get less service(what AT&T did), or you can pay more to get the same level of service you are currently getting.

considering they charge $1.99 per mb now, or 25mb for $9.99, i think you will be correct on your point.
well if they dont let you get grandfathered you will be able to get out of your contract without an ETF since that is breaching the contract so not sure if they want to go through all that and potentially lose alot of customers. I know myself personally if they do not do this i will be switching to sprint for the unlimited 4g and they have pretty good service in my area
That's because Verizon STILL has a true unlimited Cell Phone Data plan. The 5gb cap is for wireless data CARDs. This is for people using a laptop, tablet, etc with a wireless data card.
I realize there is a lot of confusion regarding this issue, but the big-wigs at Verizon confirmed this point during the DroidX annoucement when someone asked if there was a cap on the dataplan and they replied that there was not.
