[Verizon] How do i trouble shoot poor battery life?

Hello everyone. I have had what I consider good battery life foe the duration of my SGN. I have had the extended battery for about 6 months and been through several ROMs over that time span. Over the past 1-2 weeks my battery really won't make it all day with out a charge.

Can someone point me to steps to trouble shoot if I need a new battery or if there is something else draining my battery? I don't keep great track of the things that I have updated on my phone and I don't keep good records of when I installed this or that app. I'd there was one that I installed and I started to get really bad battery life then it would be obvious.

So I need steps to check in an order that will best help me know why my battery life seems to be fading.
Thanks

What setup are you running right now? Rom? Custom kernel? I'd start with that and maybe use a few battery monitoring apps to rule out a rogue app. I like OS Monitor for general use. Also get yourself some CPU Spy to verify you're getting deep sleep and decent distributions of the various cpu states. You can also keep tabs on your phone's log on an ongoing, live basis using mutliple apps like alogcat or similar.

Better battery stats is also a very useful app. It tells you what apps or services are being used or keeping your phone awake when it shouldn't be

If you want a quick and dirty way to troubleshoot it, just look at your most CPU and memory-intensive apps, and disable the top 3 of them. Wait a day and see if anything changes.

Having said that 6 months is not an uncommon point for battery life to start taking a hit.

Thanks for the ideas. So I will have to wait a little while monitoring my phone performance. The is manager seems pretty powerful but I'm not to sure how to use it. Here is a screen shot. I get that it shows when apps are using the CPU but if I just look at it all I see is a lot of zeros for usage. The app itself seems to use the most CPU when I am just looking at this window.

What in the logs am I looking for? The logs are a little too over my head.

Finally how would I tell which are my top 3 apps?

Thanks for the help. That old link was helpful. Found out that lightflo was using a lot of my battery. Uninstalled it and am getting better life.
Thanks again for the help

I know I'm late to this party, but I have a file called BATTERY BOOSTER!!!.zip in my collection that seems to help with my battery no mater what rom or apps I use.

good luck
