I had the same on 2.4 and 2.5. Stuck with stock kernel on aokp it's really good imo.

The AOS bug will remain till you jump to .04 ICS. It's a "reporting error" bug and imo does not affect battery life.
 
It's hard to see it as a reporting error when I'm getting such horrid battery life, especially since it seems battery life sunk indirectly related to the "reporting error's" rise.

But I'm a human and prone to stupidity. Either way, here's hoping whatever is going on gets fixed soon. I'll try stock kernel if I still have issues.

Hey I'm human too :)

The reporting error has been since .01. In other words look at all the screenshots of the GN on the web. AndroidOS is always up there if they are using the phone normally. And look at the battery life. Now take .04 roms (only 2 I know of) and you'll see AndroidOS drop to the bottom of the battery list, however, battery life hasn't drastically increased, if any at all (I ran .04 for a full week). Just my layman experience.

But yeah I hope anything wrong with anyone's phone gets fixed soon too!
 
So I made the jump to 2.6 stable after having some stellar time with 2.5...I lasted over a week, close to two, with that kernel and posted some of my phenomenal results! With the latest stable I am seeing about the same performance. I haven't been running it long enough yet to determine if SOT is worse, better or on par but I will report back. Using LeanTweaks 12 with all the bells and whistles on, save for color and sound control, as well as not FFC (no need). :)
 
Okay, I am back to crackkernelflashing ways! I am on 2.6exp8. Will report back soon. Gotta say that I value a kernel more than a ROM. Must be cos ICS is just that good!
 
Wow I really, really like this AOKP b28 and LK 2.6.0 combo.

Granted, I'm mostly talking about idle time here as I've had only 25 minutes of screen-on time in the last ~38 hours due to work kicking my arse. But still, 50% after 38 hours is :eek: even if it's mostly idling and with wifi on in most cases.

One weird thing I've noticed is that battery drain on 4G seems to be proportional to signal strength. I would have expected it to be inversely proportional, but in my case the battery drain is much more rapid when I'm out and about with 3-4 4G bars even with the same usage pattern as I would have at home with 1 4G bar. Weird...

So, I've been out of the modding game for a bit. Last time I really read up was when m3 had just been released. Is there a new "best" lean kernel currently? Right now I'm on m3 and lean 2.0.1, and I get a little over 3hrs screen time on a standard battery. Is there a current version that's king of kernel?

Lotta folk are diggin' 2.5 and 2.6. I hear 2.7 is about to drop soon though.

'King of kernel' I like that! Although I think it goes more like this.... "king of kernel for you and your phone" :D

I could not be happier with 2.6.0. I don't even know that I'll switch when 2.7.0 drops, it's that good.

Have you gone through all the 2.x.x kernels as they have been released? What kind of SOT(screen on time)...just made that up right now so I don't have to type out the whole thing. Eventhiugh I ended up typing a lot more because of it, hopefully it'll save time in the future. =P
 
I have used most of them, if not all. My average screen on time for heavier use is about 3 1/2 hours over the course of an 8 hour period. I haven't done a test of just pure screen on time though.
 
going to give 2.7 a try soon I think...I am noticing some significant lag or what I would consider throttle in some of our games on 2.6. I was not getting it in. 2.4....looking at my CPU spy I see I am using the 1.65ghz slot for that game, making me think its more likely a throttle and not just lag....I have not done any terminal checking tho, so I should prolly find out for sure.

Yeah if your using 1.65MHz slot that would be my bet. Turn that sucker down 1.2MHz is plenty ;)
 
Just so I'm sure I'm on the right page doing this...

To go from 2.6 to 2.7 all I need to do is DL the file, wipe the partition cache and the dalvik cache, then flash 2.7, correct?
 
K thanks. I think it makes sense to do it and I don't see it hurting anything.

That brings up an interesting question though, what if you wanted to install a different kernel? Like, say the Franco. I know that putting one ROM on top of another one without wiping can cause problems. Is it the same deal with kernels?

No, a cache and dalvik wipe should be sufficient going from one kernel to another, and even that may not necessarily be required. If you're worried, just do a nandroid first :)
 
Thanks jkc. Yeah, I always do a nandroid first. I'm already sporting 2.7.1 with no problems.

Love this phone.
