[Verizon] Nandroid backup question

Well-Known Member
Hello i am new to rooting.

So after rooting/unlocking i did a nandroid backup in clockwork.
Then i flashed a deodexed rom immk76 4.0.4 then flashed a couple of mods for battery in notification area and and advanced power menu.

If i go and restore that nandroid backup in clockwork, what will happen?

You will go back to the state you were in before flashing the rom/mods. Sounds to me like it was just a stock, rooted setup.

Yes its a stock rooted setup. The reason why i want to do this is because i flashed some mods that dont work and i dont want them on my phone.

Im ready for a jb rom

You could certainly go back to that for stability purposes but if you're wanting JB, you may as well flash a JB rom with a full wipe/clean install. If anything goes wrong with that, you still have the original nandroid to fall back on.

Should i just wipe/reset then flash a jb rom?

Or restore nandroid then flash a jb rom?

How about cache and dalvik?

If you're just going to flash the JB ROM, you don't have to restore the nandroid. When you're in recovery, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, then flash the JB ROM (and GApps if they're required, I believe they are). The mods will uninstall when you wipe data.

^^What he said. Gapps are required on some but not others. If they are required for your desired version of JB, flash the rom and the Gapps back to back directly after wiping data/cache/dalvik. Then reboot to system and enjoy. Be patient on initial boot up.

Sorry if this is an extremely dumb question, but when you do all the wipes to Flash the JB ROM that will completely delete everything off your phone, right? So I should copy my nandroid backup from my phone to my computer before wiping all those files??

it doesn't wipe SD partition. Unless you specifically tell it to. But it always good to backup your SD contents periodically onto your pc.

Correct. Nothing on your SD card is touched during wipe data/factory reset. Your nandroid backups are save in a folder on your SD card, so they will still be there.

Great.... Thanks for the confirmation. I think i'm going to take the leap and flash a ROM!

No problem! Glad to help because I was in your shoes not too long ago. Happy flashing! Which rom are you going for? One of the jakedays Jelly Belly rom I assume?

Yeah... That's where I'm going to start. It seems to be a good "beginner" ROM. However AOKP seems to be a popular one, so that might be my next one.

If i switch from one JB rom to another, should I do a full wipe each time?

There are details on the first post of jakedays thread on rootzwiki about whether or not you have to do a full (clean) wipe. For example, he says you can just wipe cache and dalvik when going from 3.1 to 3.2, but you have to clean flash from 2.6 to 3.0+ Personally, I just clean wipe every time I flash a rom. The more you do it the easier it becomes, and then you know that any bugs you might encounter were not caused by a dirty flash, but the rom itself or its compatibility with your phone.

Yea you should just to be on the safe side. Otherwise it might become buggy and then you'd have to wipe it again anyway. Keep in mind though that AOKP is still on ICS, so technically you'd be downgrading again :)

How do I return to stock rooted? Just wanna remove all mods and rom and be the way it was after rooting. For now

before you flashed your new rom, hopefully you made a nandroid backup. Just boot into recovery and restore the backup you made. Your phone will go back to exactly how it was - settings and everything.

I just did this. I flashed Jelly Belly 3.3 it was a little buggy on my phone (Data/syncing wasing working right) so I restored my Nandroid through CWM - phone exactly back to how it was. Now i'm probably gonna flash AOKP and see how that was, eventhough its not a JB ROM everyone seems to love it.

Are you on a JB ROM? If so, which one?

I'd recommend checking out JB Bugless Beast if you get a chance. Its running super smooth for me with no force closes or reboots or anything

I made a nandroid before flashing the rom but when i try to restore to it it says md5 verification failed. I am able to flash my nandroid post root though

I cant flash my nandroid backup from before the rom install. It says md5 mismatch.

Only nandroid i have is post root. Fml any suggestions?

Can you post a brief sequence in which you describe the order that you rooted, nandroided, flashed any roms, etc...

It sounds like you're getting a few things mixed up and it's a little confusing :)

Rooted/unlocked
Nandroid backup (this is the one with md5 mismatch)

Flashed in imm76k deodexed rom 4.0.4 with mods
Nandroid backup

If i would like to go back to the md5 mismatch how can i
