I think it should be fine as long as you're not trying to root. As for the contacts, they mean back them up to an SD card just case. If you go into contacts and hit the menu button there should be an option to backup your contacts.

Oh I'm definitely not trying to root. I'm actually trying to avoid accidentally doing that or causing some other damage.

Are you talking about the SD card in the phone?

Just make sure the contacts are syncd to google but tbh, you arent gona lose any data by flashing official firmware mate. Itl be fine

Some of them are to Google and some are to the other thing who's name escapes me right now.

I sure hope it will be fine because I could screw up a one car funeral as they say.

I've got two friends that are techie and know my limitations to see if they think I'm capable of doing it.

Lol as long as you follow the instructions, make sure you have the right firmware .tar file for your carrier, dont check any boxes on Odin that you shouldnt, it will be fine. Its exactly how samsung would flash a phone

Thats truly disgraceful man!! They could just push the old version in the meantime or atleast the new firmware but with the old radio!

I rolled my S3 back to MB1 last night with nothing lost at all by this method which shows step-by-step on reverting back without wiping anything or if you want, there are other options too.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974114

Simple and quick. Just let it do it's thing and the phone reboots once done, then optimizes apps you have and that's it!:D

Thankfully back to MB1 and 4G plus no more draining the snot out of the battery let alone the texting issues all associated with that last push.

Maybe Verizon should equip stores with someone who can do this for you while you wait as an added level of customer service to correct the actions they caused.

My advice is do Not accept anymore updates and stick with the proven bmb1.

All that can really be done now is add more bloat and pimp S4 features.

Extra bloat, stay out of my yard! Yeehahh!

I did the fix tonight. At first I couldn't get the phone into download mode by pressing Volume Down+Home+Power. But then I looked at Deanski's link and saw where the phone had to be completely powered off before starting the procedure. That is what I was doing wrong.

Once I figured that out the procedure went ahead. It took about 15 minutes to complete but now I'm back on the MB1 version.

Thanks to all of those here that I have bothered over the past few days.

Well I tried to do the fix and didn't get past one of the first steps. I couldn't get the phone into download mode. Volume Down+Home+Power didn't do anything. I just knew if there was a way I would screw this up.

What went wrong? I tried pushing them all at once, one at a time. Nothing worked.

Start with the phone completely shut down.
Start by holding the home button, then the volume down button, then lastly the power button. Let go of all three when a screen appears :)

I just got off the phone with Verizon - second time this week. Tech support says we can expect an update around the first week of July.

I am reverting back to the previous update to get the good radio back and to eliminate some bloat , question how do i block the update in the future (i am /will be rooted with custom recovery unlocked bootloader) ?

And to think people were scared to use odin to revert back to a previous build. :D to those that have gone back let everyone know how easy it was.

I've never done anything like this before and it was as easy as everyone's been saying. And 4Gs is back to normal.

The update has been pulled so no reason to worry about this. I have rolled back to MB1 and my device reports as being up-to-date when I check for available updates.

I've never tried anything like this before either and while it was easy once the procedure started I did have a problem at the start because I didn't know you had to start with the phone powered completely off. Either I missed that in the instructions or it was thought everyone should just know that.

I will also admit that I was a nervous wreck while it was running because with my luck on trying things like this, I was just waiting for the whole thing to blow up and kill the phone.

Lol i have that feeling with every phone ive rooted and flashed for the first time. Nearvous then kinda a buzz lol especialy when it all goes to plan and you get that sense of achievement and realise that half the crap these "experts" in phone/carrier stores really know next to nothing about the things they sell :)

Lol and to think most of the time they just rather give u a replacement and think they have solved your issues..... Trust me its super rare to find dealer that knows what they talking about. What ya learn in this forum it's priceless. Ya can actually show your carrier dealer a thing or two lol

Unzip the tar file and that is what you choose with Odin. Zipped it s 707mb and unzipped it is 1.2gb. Considering the S4 size is almost 3gb, the S3 FW is small in comparison.
