Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

Same here. Ordered on the 8th and my ship by date was pushed back from the 9th to the 11th. Still no CC charge or shipping email. In other news people who ordered a week later have their phones.

It has to be random selection.

Reception so far seems not so good. Areas of my house I often jump between 1x and 3g on my old DX and my wife's 4G Stratosphere (never 4G). My SIII gets no data and just one bar. It has refused to send an SMS as well at home. Wifi solves the data problem, but I hope I'm not missing texts while at home.

On the plus side 4G in the city was amazing, I downloaded apps as fast as i could queue them in the short period of the train ride to work where we're above ground.

I hate the touchwiz launcher, but it it fast and I like the calendar widgets and unread counts on shortcuts. I'm looking into Nova and Apex but they have minor annoyances has well.

Problem is if you travel, 4g is not as common and at the mercy of 3G and roaming. I have yet to see a post of great reception. The positive selfishly is I am now not yearning for the device like I was, so waiting until next week is okay now. Samsung seems to get everything right but the most critical thing. Nuts.

Talk about buzzkill- jeesh.

Folks, wipe the new device pixie dust from your eyes. If the reception is weak like the Gnex, seems an epic downer. Wish I had one to test for myself. I have gone from new device excitement to just wanting to confirm the reception.

Mine is on the truck for delivery. The Verizon website still doesn't have a tracking number, but I got mine using the trick posted here by DoIt2it (thanks again!) Now I'm only going to be nervous that it doesn't get stolen from outside my house while it's waiting for me or the wife to get home today!

For those keeping track: Chicago, 32Gb blue, online order 6/13, overnight shipping. My status changed online mid-afternoon yesterday.

OK, let me get this straight. If all of the S3 radios have poor reception, and Samsung sells between 30-50,000,000 of these things, that means the majority of cellphone users won't be able to reach each other. Now how much more Apples to Apples stats can you get than that. Everyone would be on a level playing field so where's the problem?

Think about it. If you have a..... let's say for example.....a HTC OneX and you get 3-4 bars consistently in most places you go, then you'll be in the minority and considered a freak. Join the mainstream and get the S3.

IF the reception is weak, any relative correlation of devices is superfluous to the point of a weak signal. Reports are the signal for 3G is weaker than the Incredible and the 4G is apparently as weak as the Gnex.

If you mainly dwell in cities or areas with great coverage, cool, but if you live in or travel in areas with weaker coverage being more prolific, not cool.

It is all about choice. I would LUV for the great featured G3 to have great reception too, but my number one priority is reception based on where I live and travel (all over). I will stick with my Razr thin until the Moto HD comes out IF the G3 really does have weak reception.

I made the mistake with the Nokia N900, which for its time was the best featured device, but had AWFUL signal reception. Not happening again for me, but good for folks that enjoy the G3 :)

I really need to find one to check for myself....

Update:

As soon as I post I have not seen posts of good reception, I see this as example:

Who to believe?? Ah, "myself" :) , but next week to get one :(

It's here folks! Radio reception isn't too bad and battery life is exceptional. Glad I bought the extra accessories. I also bought a case although it's a bit bulky for my taste.

Rush, I plan on logging my gnex signal in a couple places right before I activate my phone this afternoon, then checking the same areas with the S3. I'll post what I find to this thread. Sometime after 3:00 cst.

On FedEx vehicle for delivery

..... and I'm at work all day, won't be home to sign for it. craaaaaap.

Okay here is a good bit of news.

Called the CSR to see if they could call FEDEX to release the phone since it's at the local distribution center but not scheduled for deliver until Monday (grrr). First she told me that it should have been overnighted to me and wasn't sure why it was sent 2nd Day and she would call FEDEX to find out what could be done.

She came back and said that the package is still being sorted but I could go this afternoon and pick it up with the ID and tracking number. Sweet.

So for those with phones in distribution center purgatory call your CSR, have them call FEDEX and waive the first delivery so you can go pick it up if that is what you want to do. Or just sit and wait until next week, I'm sure it's not a big deal or anything since we all have the patience of saints. :D

I just called cause when I ordered it said next day not 2 day that i am getting now!!!!
The person on the phone tried to look it up and said she see's nothing of either 1 or 2 day shipping anywhere so then she just said your getting it early anyway it was not suppose to ship till the 9th bla bla bla... and your getting it Monday bla bla bla...

the point is I dont know how they say you have next day. But good for you.

The main thing now is does this phone have good enough reception or is it junk! Now.

what good is a fast nice phone if you cant make calls!!!!!!!

Now after reading some good and some bad I wonder if some are faulty hopefully not a 50 50 ratio

Same here. Apparently my phone is vacationing in West Chester, PA. Heres to hoping Fedex forgot to update while changing my 2day to overnight...

Same here, I woke up thinking that maybe my order will have magically changed to overnight and be out for delivery. Instead I see all it has managed to do is crawl to Newark. Monday it is then :(

Well I received my shipping notification. Expected shipping date 7/6 (today), standard overnight, with an expected delivery date of Monday 7/9.

So those of you wondering, looks like there is no Saturday delivery.

Tell the boss you're sick! Tell the boss you're dead! Tell the boss your dog just had kittens! Tell the boss you have a Galaxy S3 on the way to your house! ANYTHING!

BTW not to make you mad or anything, but mine's on the truck too... and I'M home :p

Ordered 6/13 with a ship date of 7/10. Order just got charged last night, so should get tracking soon... looks like I'm getting it when local stores do... whoopee...

Oops, I created a thread for reception. Maybe the mods want to move it, or does the subject deserve a thread on own?

Actually, I think having subjects all in one thread gets convoluted, so reception with it's own thread might be best.

Still no CC charge this morning, status still says "We received your order and it is in process." Expected Ship Date: 07/10/2012.. ordered 16GB blue on 6/14 3:31pm wa state over the phone.

I REALLY HOPE something changes today.

They just charged my cc and changed my status to sent for processing. I've never been so happy to see money leave my account! :D

edit: I ordered on 6/15 in the evening. some ordered before me and are still waiting. So random!

Well I received my shipping notification. Expected shipping date 7/6 (today), standard overnight, with an expected delivery date of Monday 7/9.

So those of you wondering, looks like there is no Saturday delivery.

I THINK Saturday delivery is reserved for businesses only, but not residential.

Now what I AM wondering is whether or not I can pick up at the FedEx distribution center near my house. Mine got shipped out today with standard overnight and expected delivery on Monday, just like yours. I'm assuming that because it has overnight shipping it should arrive at the distribution center sometime tonight.

Does anyone know if FedEx will allow me to pick up at their disti center tomorrow afternoon? I sure would like the weekend to play with it (that's what she said).

At this point I would take reports of signal strength with a grain of salt. You're going to get people whose homes are mobile dead zones complaining that this phone didn't automatically cure their issues, people who think that if the signal is dropped just once it's "GNex all over again" or people who just can't be pleased. Still too early to build a consensus on signal strength off of a relative few "reports".

Yesterday my status changed from "shipping the 9th" to "Ship Date: 07/05/2012" - well, today is the 6th and my tracking number does not even register with FedEx despite claiming to have shipped yesterday.

I think someone mentioned that you can leave a signed and dated note asking the driver to leave your package. Run home at lunch and put one on your door where they can get to it.

FedEx does Saturday delivery if the shipper requests it (and pays for it), I don't think it's included in Standard Overnight. Weird though, as I've had things delivered on Saturday that were shipped FedEx Home Delivery and FedEx Express Saver. I rarely use them, most of the things that I order are shipped UPS or USPS. Edit: Standard Overnight does not have the option for Saturday delivery, but Priority overnight does.

As far as picking it up from the distribution center, FedEx will not allow it unless they've made atleast one delivery attempt. A previous poster claims that when he/she called Verizon they contacted FedEx and released the package for pickup without a delivery attempt being made, but given VZW Rep's reputation for not knowing what the **** they're talking about I wouldn't think it was a guarantee.

I had a question about a change in my order, so I called customer service the day after I ordered and they said that I if I had to reorder I would lose my place in line. I now wonder what kind of line he was talking about!
