Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

How funny would/will it if hordes of Verizon customers invade AT&T or Sprint stores just play with the phone, then tell the sales employees that we're just looking and playing with it until VZ gets it in.

I know, that's not nice to the employees
I will be part of the horde:evil::evil::evil::evil:.

Just saw this ad on Amazon.com, probably doesn't mean anything though...I wish Verizon would just announce something. Pre-ordered on the phone right at 7am on the 6th. Haven't heard anything besides the email confirmation.

Damn! I saw one of those too on my site while I was updating a post. I was in such a hurry (it was spider-man related) that I didn't take a good look at it to see what it said. I've been refreshing my site now for about 10-15 minutes and can't see it again. Now I'm so curious. Argh!

Sprints 32 gig has been delayed for another week and the 21st has been cancelled no eta. The 16 will ship on the 21st. I think Verizon had feeling and took advantage of it and by getting the shared data plans out early ahead of it. Think they are just playing it safe so they don't have a repeat nexus.

Totally agree. Gnex was announced then delayed, delayed again, & delayed some more ( right Chief, lol ). This is just us being overly excited/impatient for the biggest launch of the year.

I can't fully fault Verizon on that one.

The problem with the Gnex launch was US, too. Verizon "officially" just announced a launch date by the end of the year... it was WE who kept reading about rumored launch dates and resetting the countdown clock. Then we were disappointed every time something came up that pushed it back.

At least we have a confirmed ship date on this one :)

If I am not jerking one out with the phone on or before July 9th I am going back to AT&T. I just switched to Verizon after 8yrs Cingular/AT&T and I really had no problem s with them at all. The only reason I switched to Verizon was for the better signal indoors(mainly at my work)

With that said I have learned a couple things leaving AT&T and going Verizon...

1. AT&T seemingly gets every phone out there that comes out, or at least all the heavy hitters. I notice this a lot more now after I left them.

2. AT&T customer service was much better IMO and were not trying to act like a bunch of apple store wanna be.

3. With AT&T premier there has been A loophole with refurbished phones for about 6yrs noe and it still works. You can pretty much buy any refurbished phone for half the usual subsidized price and they don't renew your contract :D . For example from 2007-2011 I had about 20 iPhones :d. I rented my contract only 3 times :-).. Abuse? Yes! ;). If its ere I am taking it. Maybe att does it on purpose but it is always during the holiday seasons this pops up an is allowed to happen. I remember ordering 5 iPhone 3GS in December 09 and paying $500 for all 5. Sold them all for about $400 a piece :D. No contract extension :)

4. AT&T has a portfolio of windows phones and in all honesty the galaxy s3 is just something to tide me over until Verizon releases a boatload of new windows phones this coming holiday season per an official statement a month or two back.

The Gnex on Verizon has been a complete disaster in every way possible! LOL. You're right that the frustration with delays was partially our own fault, but it's clear in hindsight that Google, Samsung, and Verizon had an entanglement of epic proportions with the Gnex.

Aside from the disastrous launch, it was almost HALF A YEAR before it received its first "official" software update. Thank goodness for the excellent development community, otherwise it would have been a total bust.

Not to mention the crappy radio. I kept telling myself that a software update would make it better. But despite being in a strong 4G coverage area, I am still on 3G more often than not. And my battery life constantly takes a hit whenever my signal strength is low (which is pretty often). The switchover from 3G/4G never did work right, though it did get better. And I can't count the number of times where data would be lost altogther (voice fine, data nope).

Not to mention all of the 4G outages with the LTE network before and after the launch of the Gnex! How many times was it? At least half a dozen. Nah, I'm not sore about any of that. LOL.

Despite all that, I still preordered the GS3! I guess I'm just a sucker. I'm hoping (but not actually expecting) the radio/antenna to be better on the GS3. Does anyone actually think Samsung will have a good radio in this thing for the Verizon LTE network? They always seem to get it right with the GSM version...

Well anyway, Verizon always seems to delay their phones, so I'm not actually expecting the GS3 to ship by 7/10 as promised. I don't really care, I guess. I may end up selling it and getting the iPhone 5 anyway. ;-)

Hey Shockwave, while your statement about AT&T is true now, it wasn't always the case. Verizon owned them in Android offerings while AT&T had the iPhone exclusive. Only after the Galaxy S did AT&T finally catch up in that regard.

I am hoping this is a classic case of "Under Promise -- Over Deliver". If you read your/my pre-order it says "ships by" not "ships on". I think (there goes that word again) that VZ will fulfill orders as the devices come in. Likely from the 21st on. Those in que first, ship first. That is what I hope anyways. I think the 9th/10th day is just a buffer for in channel devices. Just my .02 and my first post here :)

I currently have a Droid X and ASUS Transformer OG and I am waiting for the S3 to be delivered. Still a little worried about the Pentile Matrix display given the previous versions, but believe the pixel density will help to correct that issue.

Look in a previous post here for a YouTube link of the Canada version which is the same device as ours. Mobile Syrup is the site. Reports are from the previewer that has a G nexus the SG3 is far better, great on battery and over 5000 Quadrant scores.

This may be a stupid post, but I had a bit of an issue with verizon and transfer upgrades. I was planning to use my sister's line's upgrade now to keep unlimited and give her my upgrade when the new iphone comes out. However I recently realized I likely can't give her my upgrade down the line because it would extend my contract and count as my line getting a subsidized smartphone and would kick me off of unlimited. This would be a big problem so I cancelled my preorder.

However the preorder online lets me pick my unlimited data plan and shows the upgrade as for my line. So despite it being my sister's line getting the phone and contract extension technically, I am agreeing to my line's plan. As such I thought maybe it would be the same for her using my upgrade. However this would be a major loophole because 2 years down the line I could easily use her upgrade as a regular one and let her use my unlimited line's upgrade in a transfer upgrade, thus getting around the no subsidized upgrade for unlimited lines issue.

Anyway despite it being a major loophole which made it seem implausible to me. I emailed verizon and got this response a short while ago.

Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless. My name is Bryce, and I would be happy to assist you with your text message inquiries. I understand exactly what you are doing. I transferred an upgrade from my mothers line to get the Galaxy SIII and keep my unlimited data.

When your sister upgrades her phone with your alternate upgrade from your line it will not affect your unlimited data at all. It will effect the data options she had but your unlimited data is safe and will not be affected. I am confident that this will ease your mind about your data plan.

Thank you for being the best part of Verizon Wireless, our customer! Have a great day.

Sincerely,

Bryce

So it looks like i can give her my upgrade, and according to this person from verizon there is a huge loophole in their system. However I'm not sure how valid this email is. Does anyone know if emails like this guarantee I can reinstate my preorder and be okay? Or does this email hold no value at all and verizon can basically tell me to screw off if they take away my unlimited in october when my sis uses my line's upgrade in a transfer upgrade? Thanks for any help anyone can give me here. I really want to get things cleared up and decide if it is worth it to use her upgrade or not.

The upgrade only affects the line that is being upgraded, but I am sure verizon will make it so if you upgrade a year down the line they will force the whole plan into share plans to screw customers even more. I could see verizon doing something like that.

Yeah its pretty bad when you go into a Verizon store & mention Ice Cream Sandwich & they tell you the Baskin Robins is next door.

ha seriously. One time I went in to have my phone looked at and had rom manager installed. The one rep was like what is this and the other rep said it is where all the apps go when you download them. I thought i was caught with a rooted device and then I smiled and was like yes that is it ha

Yeah, the reps probably know less than the people who post here. I have two friends who are SUPERVISORS in the customer service department at a Verizon call center here in Ohio. I asked them about why my credit card hadn't been charged for the preorder and if it Verizon charges when the phone is actually shipped. They had no idea and one of them laughed and said, "yeah, I should probably know that."

I got the impression that training is less than stellar.

So should the radio be pretty good on this phone because its using qualcomm radios this time?

Well I thought the same but the issue apparently lies with the antenna. The radio is the modem and that is made my qualcomm but the antenna that determines the signal strength is made by Samsung. So apparently we need to hope they fixed the antenna.
