Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

I don't know if this is new or something that I haven't seen before, but I notice the ad campaign on Yahoo! and Phandroid of the S3 coming June 21st to Verizon. Is this something to get excited about?

Warning:!!! Be careful about checking your order status. I think I may be getting Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.....and by the way, this thread has really slowed down. I think everyone has just given up.

Preorder has been live for 2 weeks now other carriers are launching tomorrow and old trusty Verizon still doesn't even have an official launch day...

Given up on what? Hoping they get there phone sooner than Verizon said they would? I think that is a good thing to give up on.

If I am not jerking one out with the phone on or before July 9th I am going back to AT&T. I just switched to Verizon after 8yrs Cingular/AT&T and I really had no problem s with them at all. The only reason I switched to Verizon was for the better signal indoors(mainly at my work)

With that said I have learned a couple things leaving AT&T and going Verizon...

1. AT&T seemingly gets every phone out there that comes out, or at least all the heavy hitters. I notice this a lot more now after I left them.

2. AT&T customer service was much better IMO and were not trying to act like a bunch of apple store wanna be.

3. With AT&T premier there has been A loophole with refurbished phones for about 6yrs noe and it still works. You can pretty much buy any refurbished phone for half the usual subsidized price and they don't renew your contract :D . For example from 2007-2011 I had about 20 iPhones :d. I rented my contract only 3 times :-).. Abuse? Yes! ;). If its ere I am taking it. Maybe att does it on purpose but it is always during the holiday seasons this pops up an is allowed to happen. I remember ordering 5 iPhone 3GS in December 09 and paying $500 for all 5. Sold them all for about $400 a piece :D. No contract extension :)

4. AT&T has a portfolio of windows phones and in all honesty the galaxy s3 is just something to tide me over until Verizon releases a boatload of new windows phones this coming holiday season per an official statement a month or two back.

You failed to mention 1 major flaw. That at&t is at&t. In the 2 major cities in which I travel I don't know anyone who is completely happy with their service and reception.

If i recall correctly, during the whole GNex release debacle, Verizon said absolutely nothing regarding a firm release date until ~16 hours before launch.

I was following this abortion of a release from jump street, and saw the repeated rumored release dates. Then out of the blue, Verizon announces officially at 4:45pm Wednesday that it is officially available that next morning.

It wouldn't shock me if they announced tonight for tomorrow release, or if they announced two weeks from now...with no advanced indications or warnings.

Yes I remember the Galaxy Nexus announcement shut twitter down for a bit.

The key with the GNex was Verizon decided they wouldn't release it until 4.0.2 was ready. So it was always going to be a last minute proposition, we just didn't know that until afterwards. The GSIII is a different story.

I am curious if Verizon has ever used the verbiage "by" for a proposed release date.

I gave up on an earlier launch but maybe it is dependent on how quickly they can get their branding and bloat on the devices.

Ya I dont understand how all these reviews on there LTE network make it so blindly fast if the signal is horrible. My buddy lives in houston has AT&T LTE and says the service sucks. So I guess its a crap shoot.

I think we just need to accept that July 9 is is going to be the day. The ads that say the 21st are generic, and can say any carrier depending on when you look at it. Companies like Radio Shack have extended pre-orders until July 4, and they wouldn't still be doing pre-orders if it was coming out some time in June. Other carriers are delaying their releases. Nothing really points to anything other than a July release. I am optimistic that some of us will see ours on the 7th or 8th, but the 9th is going to be the big day. It's something we need to accept.

Don't you see, that's what Verizon wants us to think :p All kidding aside though you're probably right, but I just can't help but hope it's sooner :)

I mean, think of all the extra man power / time spent that Verizon (or all carriers for that matter) of answering the same "when is it coming out" question.
I know it sparks interest and gets people talking, but as someone else mentioned, the Verizon employees are either clueless, or have been swore to secrecy.
I have gone into Sprint, Best Buy, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile just to get a look see at a dummy phone. No one has them. But yet, oddly enough, they are selling dummy models on eBay! What?@#%!
I just dont understand why these companies cant come up with a solid date. If something happens and there are delays, then fine, post it publicly and change the date.

I think that demanding a solid date silly. Rather than rumors, would you rather have verizon say "there is a new phone coming out sometime, whenever. We will let you know the day before launches." " We will not give you any additional release information, that way nobody can be upset about any delays."

We will certainly see. More to my point was that Verizon is capable of anything in terms of surprises and could literally do anything. I don't think any of us know the true motivation behind a release two weeks ahead of everyone else (at least as it is reported now) and wont know until after release.

I think everyone can agree that Big Red's lack of transparency with their customers just pisses everyone off. I would rather them set a date, and give a good explanation if they happen to miss the date, than a mystery "ship by" date that is just speculated on wildly by ad-click hungry sites with no credible sources.

How would giving a solid date be in their best interest? It definitely would be in our best interest, but they can be as vague as possible and still watch millions of us order them.

Isn't that what they do now?

Important information about your Samsung Galaxy S III
Congratulations and thank you for your Samsung Galaxy S III purchase. We know that you are anxiously awaiting the arrival of your new phone.
Unfortunately, our original confirmation email to you contained an incorrect Ship By Date of June 6; the actual ship date for your order is July 9.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We recognize that you have a choice in wireless service and thank you for choosing Verizon Wireless.

I think their motivation for the 2 week delay is related to the family share plans. If the phone ships on the 9th, it should arrive on our doors by the 11th. I think the in store launch will be the 12th. That's 15 days after the share everything plans go into place. That means anyone who thought they could use their upgrade to get a current phone then exchange it for the GSIII once they got a look at it are sol.

Just my .02.

I think being reasonable with a customer base and setting expectations is in their best interest in developing more loyal customers. People would still order these things whether they are up front or cloaked in secrecy. They only cause their customers to lose patience / get frustrated when they aren't up front.

In the end it is a zero sum game, and VZW has a lock on arguably the best performing mobile network. A very small percentage would leave them as a result of their secret approach to the launch, and they will make $$ either way.... so i guess this is all a moot point anyways :frown:

Except they allowed pre-orders to be grandfathered in...

It think this is 100% correct. There is really no other reason for them to be two weeks behind the other major US carriers and the way the timing all works out for them is no accident.
