Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

True for me, but exceptions happen. And I have watched Anime on my phone while out and about. Kid playing at the park where I don't have to pay full attention but nothing else to do. Or I have a feeling end of July when we go to my wife's parents farm for the week and the phone is my only tech and internet. I have a feeling I will burn some bandwidth then.

Unlimited protects me from the occasional highs, so I don't get burned. And I hate having to worry about my usage, when I worry about it I lose interest in using it, and at that point I would not want a data plan on my device.

I said it before and i'll say it again, no date is in print by the time this comes out on AT&T i'm paying my ETF and moving on over to blue.

Last Friday, I was in Best Buy exchanging my iPhone 4 for the iPhone 4S. I told the Mobile Lead (that's his title) person at Best Buy that I am waiting for the Galaxy S III to replace my Fascinate. He told me both AT&T and Verizon Wireless are fighting to get this phone first. But it is just hearsay, so take it with a grain of salt.

With that being said, Vodafone has already confirmed getting the GS3. They are the co-owner of Verizon Wireless, so I am sure they want to sell this phone in U.S. as well. It might be just a matter of who gets it first. I sure hope Verizon Wireless will win this round for a change. Otherwise, I might switch to AT&T as my contract expires on August. :)

Yes, Verizon will get the phone. And no, they won't be first.

The more applicable question is, will they be last (of the big 4).
Again, take this with a grain of salt. The argument I got from the Mobile Lead person at Best Buy is that, everyone got some "big" phones from top tier vendors this year except Verizon Wireless (Samsung and HTC are top tier, Moto and LG are 2nd tier based on the number of phones they can sell).

AT&T already has the Galaxy Note and they are introducing the HTC One X. Verizon has none of the latest greatest phone from the top tier vendors. That's why he thinks Verizon will not be the absolute last.

In my humble opinion, why can't they release phones just like movies? Blockbuster movies are being released on the same dates at all theaters, whether it is Cinemark or AMC is irrelevant. Phone release should be like that. I think all these release "heartburn" is caused by the carriers being too powerful.

Per these specs:
Samsung SCH-i535 Galaxy S3 Detailed Specs | Technical Datasheet | PDAdb.net

The vzw LTE i535 model SGSIII will have ICS 4.0.3 not .4. And no "expansion slots" -- no SD card at all. That ground-breaking 64GB SD is being dropped altogether for US vzw folks. But, it's really hard to say. Details are still sketchy on the Verizon version.

Until/if Big Red announces this no one knows what the exact specs will be. Per PDA page "Data Sheet Status: Incomplete Specifications"

No reason to lose sleep until VZW provides info.

I don't hold much stock in what was said, however, it does make sense. VZW passed on the S II because it didn't want it to compete against the Nexus and AT&T and Sprint did just release the HTC One X. For the carriers, it would make sense to release this phone a little later to avoid direct competition while still allowing people using your service a chance to get it.

Didn't I read someplace that AT&T was getting it June 20th or am i crazy? If big Verzion gets it the 20th and that is indeed before the cut off of the grandfathered data ill stick with them. But if the Verizon version doesn't have expandable memory i'll switch.

I saw that T-Mobile was getting it that day, I haven't seen AT& T mentioned, but it's possible. Verizon, I kind of doubt, just because their internal phone approval process is way too convoluted.

I agree with Finn, Since the S3 is looking like it wont be on Verizon I looking at the Maxx or nexus. I have big hands I feel like nexus is easier to text on. I hate you Verizon just release the phone the on the 20th!!!!!!

I'd say with the recent clues stemming from the bluetooth sig, benchmark studies, etc. that it's not so much a matter of 'if' as opposed to 'when'. But in my world that is equally unsettling. Given Verizon's track record with holding up phones by testing the life out of them (which in itself blows my mind since my experience with my galaxy nexus as been far from ideal), I would not be shocked if the S3 is three months old by the time we see it.
Heck, its going on 6 months post Galaxy Nexus release and Verizon has yet to release an update (I don't count 4.02 that came the day I turned my phone on). Like others have eluded to, I equally agree that it would be absurd to believe the blood suckers at Vzn will release this beast prior to enacting their new data plans. Just my humble opinion. I hate to sound negative but its hard to be positive with Verizon in this regard.

I think your concerns are well founded and rightly justified.

However, I think VZW doesn't want to get left behind other carriers on this handset. I also think they would like to get another Samsung phone on the shelves to draw purchases away from the Nexus (i.e. a phone that it appears they never really wanted).

As for as unlimited data... I think they are really afraid of the hoards of iPhone owners looking for LTE speed this fall. It wouldn't surprise me to see the SG3 out before they implement shared data.

However, given VZW track record of incompetence all of your fears are well founded.

Sorry it was a typo on my part I meant to say I don't believe it will be released in June. I believe Verizon is going to release the phone after the new Shared Data Packages are in place. I could be wrong but I have a feeling this is what they are trying to pull. Our only hope is Samsung pushing the release sooner. With T-mobile getting it in 19 days we know its not a supply or chip issue.

They never carried the GS2. That's a reason. Also Verizon is terrible at picking which phones to carry. That's another reason.

/smartass

All indications are they are getting it, so it's matter of when not if.
VZW passed on GS2 because they were getting Gnex. But they don't seem to like supporting Google phone at all. I think they will try to sway potential Gnex buyers toward their bloated GS3 once it comes on their lineup.
