Verizon Pulls DX Replacements

My X has become a major pita! This thing is so buggy now that I regret getting it! I have tried swapping (same issues) and have done factory restores. Is a random reboot (2 or 3 times a week) acceptable? Also, after ending a phone call, the X freezes and won't hang up. Twice since Sunday and several times in the last month. I don't know if this is a DX issue or android, but I'm regretting switching from the iPhone 4. I know people will start throwing insults my way, but at least I had stability. Perhaps it is a trade off. I like what android is capable of, just not the implementation. Not to mention losing wifi connections daily and BT inexplicably turning off...

Not speaking for anyone but me. I'm only adding my 2 cents to this discussion. Glad I'm the rarity. Never said ios was perfect, only better (for me, that is)

I have to say yours sounds pretty unique but I don't read ever post or thread on here.

My DX (bought in August) has been relatively rock solid. I mean like all computing devices it needs a good reboot every now and then. but otherwise, works day in and day out. I have had the occasional force close. Its usually completely random and probably a network glitch or something.

Even on .340 now and stock I have no real issues.

I would hate to say you should just ROM it. But maybe you have some apps that are not playing well together.

Try deleting/uninstalling any apps you have downloaded in the last 2 weeks. see if you still have issues. Just sounds like some rogue app

If that seems too drastic, then consider re-installing all the apps you downloaded in the last 2 weeks. maybe one is corrupted

I suppose my point is the phone should simply work without this much hassle. It is obvious that mine is an us usual circumstance.

So... everyone's just taking this at face value, eh?

Guess it's the nature of the internet. If it's in writing, it must be true.
Point taken, after reading your comment I been looking for confirmation of this and have found nothing. Im feeling gullible and stupid now.

OP, where did you get this info anyway?

I used iPhones since they released until 4.0 came (when I ditched) and I wouldnt trade my X for a pallet of iPhones.

i guess i'm one of the lucky ones - i did have a few of the most commonly reported issues when my phone was running on 2.2, but since the 2.2.1 update and a subsequent factory reset (which i did after the 2.2 update as well), everything has been running fantastic, no complaints. i have no intention of moving on to any other phone any time soon.

Mine resets atleast 3 - 4 times a week....hangs other times. It's annoying but my D1 used to reset too on occassion. I've been thinking about rooting and using a stock Froyo rom without blur. It's not a massive annoyance but unfortunate....my wife's fascinate on the other hand is functionaly terrific. If it wassn't so plastic I'd use it instead.

I once asked for a replacement DX(my LCD has a slight discoloration in the center) and got one with a blue tint to the entire screen so I sent it back.

I agree with above, I don't think I'll be going back to Motorola. Their build quality is solid but I think they have QC issues. I'd rather take my chances with HTC or Samsung in the future.

Wow - this is a strange thread to read (for me). I've been loving the update to 2.2.1 as it solved the Batt Mgr F/C issue I had, and although this was only a minor thing I am happy its fixed. I've never had the phone lock up, although for those of you having this issue I do hope Moto comes up with a fix ASAP. Weird...

Same here! Had my original DX since 7/26/10 and had a problem with the stuck on the logo when I installed the first 2.2 leak. SBF'd back to stock and sent it for a replacement. Got my replacement with 2.2 installed and never had a problem except for the fc battery manager.

Got the 2.2.1 update and my X is fast, smooth, and almost never frezzes or locks up. Of course every electronic device has its hiccups but ive only had to do a battery pull maybe once since I got 2.2.1 and it was because of a app.

My DX is rock solid and takes anything I throw at it.

I'm new to Verizon. I switched from att (iphone4) because I liked what android could offer...

Ok so in this story you're saying you moved from AT&T and the iPhone to Verizon and the DX to see what Android had to offer. However you list your mobile device as AT&T Nexus 1. Perhaps you could clarify which of these stories is true.

Listen up people, if there is a bug in the .340 kernel it lies somewhere in the blur elements added to the OS by Motorola (per Verizons request I might add).

I know because I experienced anywhere from 2 to 10 random reboots PER DAY until I flashed GummyJAR (a blurless ROM for those of you who don't know). I have had zero random reboots since I started running this ROM. Therefore I can confidently say that it has nothing to do with either Googles OS nor the DX itself, and everything to do with blur IF you have a problem at all (I don't think this is a bug that plagues each and every DX device out there running .340).

Yes my DX was one of those that seemed not to respond too well to blur. So I suggest if you have a DX that reacts the same way, do yourself a favor and flash a blurless ROM such as GummyJAR or Tranquility... heck even Apex acts nicer with some blur left in it. However on Apex my device still random rebooted a few times, it really only settled down once I got rid of all the blur from the device.

This device flat out flies for me and is as solid as a steam engine without blur. See for yourself and take the plunge. If you can't or don't want to then perhaps another device is in order for you, because I agree that in stock form with all the bloat and the blur.... well I used to pull my hair out as well!

I got to say, mine works perfectly with or without blur, yes a use to had a random reboot every now and then at least 2 per week I wanna say, and just like Outlaw I've been running GummyJar for 3 or 4 days know, not even a single reboot so far, and this thing is FAST !!! had a better battery life with Apex but I got the extended battery so if I can make it from 6 am to 10:30 PM with , HEAVY use ( I must say I beat the crap out of my DX everyday :D ) Im fine. So yeah maybe some of the problems lies on all that Blur non-Blur Thing from Motorola. And then again Blur was working fine for me, I Rooted my phone and installed a custom ROM just cuz I CAN, not cuz I was having problems with it and I wanted mine to look diferent form my Wife's :D

Yes as Batbriel points out not everyone has the random reboot problem the OP is talking about. And if you aren't experiencing random reboots then flash a custom ROM or don't, it's totally your decision to make.

I'm certainly not here to push my agenda on anyone, if you don't have problems with your DX, or you don't want to deal with the dangers of flashing custom ROMs (so long as you follow directions to the 'T', flashing really isn't that scary), that's cool, be your own person. I just have never understood those peeps who jump on here and say, "well I'm on .340 and I don't have any of these problems"... if that's the case then that's great, but what does your phones performance have to do with mine?

I only offer advice for those who are experiencing the same issues I had (i.e. the random reboots). For those with sound devices, consider yourselves blessed! ;)

BTW, my phone is on .340 and it runs great!

LMAO - Sorry,... But I had to do it...

:)

For those of you who have had problems on multiple devices, answer me this. Are you transferring the same sd card from the original device from phone to phone? If you are, then that may be the root of your problem.

Everyone else experiencing problems like lagging, freezing, lock ups, resets, etc may also have the same problem.

This thread has two possible solutions:

Gallery Not Launching...Please Help - Android Forums

See post number 7 and 32. Try the solution posted in post number 32 first.

Seems a lot of people are having problems with their Gallery app, and or the way the OS is using the sd card.

Guess we are soon to find out if this rumor is valid. The other DX i was speaking of is getting another replacement and is due here this Thursday. Ill check to see what version it was shipped with and then we will know.

Id lean toward the theory of the problem being blur related or even app related or possibly a combination of the two. My phone didnt do stupid things when it was stock. Well, it would somewhat hang and not surf when on 3G at times but now crashing or rebooting. I use apex now and it runs flawless and much faster these days.

Which is true? Really? I have not updated my info. I have no reason to contribute lies on some forum for anyone's enjoyment. I'm relaying my experiences and mine only. If this is not a proper place to do so, I apologize. I somehow figured this was an inviting forum for users and members to share their experiences (positive and negative). Perhaps you would prefer an echo chamber of nothing but DX praise.

I have to say I don't think the bugs are because of certain phones, I think it depends on how, or in what order, or settings you have setup when the update is done. I didn't have any problems on 2.1 or when I first updated to 2.2 but after flashing a couple roms I noticed that I had a couple bugs when I went back to 2.2 but after flashing another rom and changing settings when I flashed back to 2.2 the bugs were gone

If you have a warranty issue with your phone, and you plan on going into a Verizon store to have it replaced, you might be disappointed. All replacement DXs with the 2.3.340 s/w have been removed from inventory/warehouses until they release fix for the bug that causes the phones to crash/auto reset. What can you do in the mean time? ........ Ask for a Fascinate :D

Source, please?

Well I will find out today if I get my replacement DX. I have had mine since Nov. since then I have had issues when I go to answer the phone (wakes up form sleep on a received call) and it will not allow me to swipe to answer, most cases I can silence the ring, sometimes I cannot do anything.

Well Yesterday (1-5) my Data quit working, the WiFi worked sort of and my regular signal strength was way down ( compared to the wife's D1) she had 3G and full strength on her phone, I had no 3g or 1x and little or no strength signal.

When I spoke to the Tech CSR they were shipping me a phone to have today. no mention of any DX being recalled or stop ship or of me getting a different phone.

Guess I will see what I get when it is delivered today

I completely agree with that statement, hell you spend good money you better get a good product.

I wonder that as well but honestly I have had 5 different MOTO phones in the past. All excellent build quality and worked with the exception of the RAZR. I got one of those first batch that had board issues.

I went back to moto with quite a lot of confidence, and so far have not been displeased. But I see people post like this and wonder, percentage wise if it is really more than the usual 1%

This is why I tell people that get a device (regardless of flavor) use it fully for atleast 2 weeks before Rooting, Roming, modding in general. Just to make sure you don't have one of the 1% flaws that get through.

This is another thing. With smartphones comes all the new downloaded apps. They are not exactly quality tested with every device. One thing apple has going for them is that all apps are designed around the same basic device hardware and thus driver base.

Our android devices do not have that luxury, hence the cheaper cost and usually better performance. I often wonder if people have rogue apps that don't play well with BLUR in general.

Which is true? Really? I have not updated my info. I have no reason to contribute lies on some forum for anyone's enjoyment. I'm relaying my experiences and mine only. Honestly maybe you should update your profile so there is some consistency.

Think about it, a person comes into a device specific arena complaining about a device and coming from the iphone etc etc. yet their profile shows a completely different device. You should expect some comments.
