Verizon Pulls DX Replacements

Successfully installed GummyJar using Roooler's guide. I'll report my experience after a week regarding reboots. Phone already appears faster overall and I did already have one reboot but I'm thinking it may have been the app..but the reboot was almost instant in comparison to stock.

Edit: Day one without blur and my phone is operating better overall. Used to get lockups several times a day but so far so good.
 
Curious as to how many with rebooting problems also use wifi? I use wifi all day at work and at home. I had multiple rebooting since the Dec update and Verizon replaced my phone twice.

Nothing solved the rebooting until I stumbled onto a wifi thread in the Moto forum. Many of the issues there involved inability to connect and stay connected to wifi. But, the thing that caught my attention was the only settings my phone will connect with is WPA/WPA2 PSK.

Those settings are the ones most say don't work for them and the settings to "stay away from".

Long story short, while playing with other settings, I stopped using wifi at home (never have any issues at work, or anywhere else) and the rebooting stopped.

I felt like an idiot for not figuring it out sooner, but since I used wifi all day, with a router that uses the same settings, it didn't occur to me sooner.

Verizon is "working on it". In the meantime, I only use wifi at home to watch streaming video, or download large files, hoping the phone doesn't reboot in the middle of it.

Good thing is my rebooting mystery is solved and I tried EVERYTHING else to try and fix it.

Bad thing is no phone works with wifi at home without rebooting.
 
Been running GummyJar rom since my last update. Not once hard reset or lock up since. I can just about say without a doubt that Motoblur on the Droid X is buggy and that's a shame.
 
its about as off topic as a thread can get but Id tend to agree on the blur causing the problem idea. We have two DX in the house and mine is rooted and tinkered with and hers is OEM. Hers has been replaced 4 TIMES and mine once, but mine continues to work day in and day out once rooted. Ive been using Apex from 1.0 to 1.3.1 and now Liberty and only once have i seen a reboot which was Apex 1.3.0. Seems the less blur the fewer problems. Blur had a few widgets I liked but I wasnt able to change them theme/color wise so I found alternatives.

This thread was about VZW pulling replacement phones with .340 installed, her last one came a week ago and it had .340 installed. Time to start a new thread.

Get into ROMs, it changes the DX like nothing else. Stock, this phone does have problems (at least mine did). Should it? No. You're right in your comments that a device should work out of the box. Mind didn't. However I could tell this thing had potential so I stuck with it until I figured out the solution. And the solution is to ROM.

I was sure I was going to run my 3rd X stock and just learn to live with its problems. I really don't feel like having to root and ROM and worry about having to get back stock to return a bad device - Since I use the headset jack all day long and work in a rough environment I don't usually have a phone make it a whole year without replacement. Now I guess I need to try GummyJar.

My story is that I used to love BB and got the Storm when it came out. IMHO it was the best thing out even though it didn't even hardly run with the SW it came with. A couple weeks later they updated the OS and it took off. I used it until the Incredible came out. I got one and it was perfect except horrible reception and battery life. My wife uses the same phone now and even thought I hard reset it a week ago she says that it still randomly locks up or freezes when a call comes in daily. It lost all of her text messages a couple days ago.

Every X I've had does something wrong everyday. I take alot of pictures for work and many problems center around this. I've ran Rubix and Apex ROMs. They seemed to just trade one set of problems for others.


Maybe I'm just picky. Maybe it's an app but I only have about 10. The only ones that aren't very common would be alarm clock + and time recording.

Well put, this is exactly how I've felt about the situation since I first slapped my 1st ROM on the phone.

Before that I sort of wondered if the DX just didnt work very well with some of the apps I had downloaded or something? But I ran UD for an entire week without any problwms... no freeze ups, no reboots, no lag, nothing. Nothing but a sleek, impossibly quick, responsive device of my dreams. And I didn't have to remove a single app.

So I ask you, how could it be the DX's fault? How could it be Googles fault? Without blur holdong them back they work brilliantly together! The Droid X is Carl Lewis, Android is the well balanced, nutritious diet he's on while training for the 1988 Olympics... and blur is a big, clunky pair of steel toe work boots they've asked him to wear during the competitions. It doesn't matter how great the other components are, you have to set your track star free by slipping some feather light Nikes (Apex, Liberty, Fission, etc....) on him and stand back and let him do his thing.

If you do he'll bring home the gold. ;)

No you really shouldn't HAVE to do that you know. Yeah doing so transforms this device, and I would put my DX up against anything else out there. But to be honest we shouldn't be in charge of cleaning up the mess they made with blur.

Hell if the iPhone or the HTC HD7 work glitch free out of the box then Motorola deserves to lose business to them. If the Bionic requires the consumer voiding its warranty just to make it competitive, then they really need to be taught a lesson by losing their ass to the competitors who get it right out of the gate.

I was watching a video on the Bionic, and the narrator said that they didn't put blur on this device. As soon as I heard em say that I got really excited! But by the end of the video he admitted that it looks like they did have blur on the Bionic after all, but just didn't want to talk about it. And I can't blame them for not wanting to talk about it, because it sucks.

Hopefully they have at least tamed it, or made it play nice with the new device at the very, very least.

All replacement DXs with the 2.3.340 s/w have been removed from inventory/warehouses until they release fix for the bug that causes the phones to crash/auto reset. I am curious if people with problematic replacement phones used the same SD cards with each phone. In other words, did you transfer one SD card to another.
If so, it could be something wrong with the SD card causing the problems with all the phones. Try reformating the SD card or replacing the SD card with another.

It's worth a try.

I've never had any problems with my DX.
 
eh, I think I'm done with Motorla phones in general. My custom ROM fixed my resets and hard locks but now my battery seems to have trouble charging properly. Yesterday I couldn' get above 20% then I reset the phone and it read 60%. Now some would say it's the ROM but I don't believe it's as simple as that. I've read dozens of posts that report this issue with even the stock ROM so I'm thinking it's an internal issue. I had similar issues with the charging port on my D1. I may get a replacement down the road, but for now I may just settle for an external charger since I have two sets of batteries.

Ran the SBF. All my apps stayed and whatnot but after I did that 4Z (Z4?) ran on the first shot.
 
Having a Fascinate as a warranty replacement is what brought me back to Motorola.

I started with a Droid 2, had major antenna problems. Thus started my path down the certified replacement route.
First replacement had a bad screen, dead pixels, brightness unable to be tamed.
Second replacement had a bad keyboard, keys peeling up.
Third replacement got really hot, would shut off, and when it felt like it--restart.

So then I got a Samsung Fascinate for free and was blown away by it's beautiful display. Then I realized Bing is all over the damn thing. Then I realized Google Earth isn't directly available from the market.

Then I realized like half the apps I normally used weren't available to it. Why? Because it's sotware is so outdated by today's standards. Because I was still within my 30 days, I walked into a Verizon store and they allowed me to get a Droid X.

Seriously, until you get a Fascinate, it looks great. But then not being able to access stuff becomes a major pain, and I really regretted it.

We're spoiled with our X's compared to what Samsung owners are dealing with. Two major system updates and still no 2.2. No google, a lot of apps/games unable to be run. It's like having a ferrrari with a Ford escort engine in it.
 
I will never buy an Android Samsung device.
Too many reasons not to.
The reasons have already been said.
If they can't give me another Droid X,
I WILL get out of my contract.
 
Gosh, i guess i was pretty lucky with my X...i had literally no major issues with my X while it was stock, including all the updates...the only problems i had were the Battery Manager FC (which was fixed with the last update) and i had a problem staying connected to wifi networks (fixed 99% with the last update)...

i did end up rooting and flashing a custom ROM and the phone performs better now, but as for issues its the same stable self...

so i guess i've been very lucky on the software front...

now hardware? i think i must have gotten the most pansy processor lol because she can't take anything over 1.16ghz on an overclock lol

I wasn't having any major issues with .340 other than once or twice a week having to reboot the phone because it would not pick up any data or make phone calls. After resetting the phone, it would be just fine. This still shouldn't be an issue on an official release.

I rooted again and put a custom ROM on there and haven't had any issues yet, knock on wood.
 
i'm going to get my third Dx...keeps resetting when i plug it in...my friend's does the same thing...don't get it..
 
I just got a replacement X in the mail yesterday, so they're still out there. I couldn't hear the other person on incoming calls. It affected the earpiece, speakerphone, and even headsets. I've already got the new one rooted, de-odexed, and running a theme! I was kind of surprised how the new phone arrived. There was no battery, battery cover, or memory card. It looked brand new, though.

That's how Verizon's replacements look. They replace the phone, would be too expensive to replace everything else as well when its a phone issue.

it's a certified like new phone...mine's in the mail now...i'll have it when i get home from work...don't know how i feel about it though...
 
I never felt ok when receiving certified phones. I know it was returned becasue something was wrong with it, and after a short time with it, the glaring problem is usually evident.

I thought I got lucky on my 4th one finally, then after it got burning hot and kept powering off until it cooled, I realized we had an issue. Then I switch to Samsung and realized I'll never get the programs running on it that I want, paid the $35 for a Droid X and never looked back.

Plus the X has a lot of accessories and cool stuff.
