Verzion Nexus Car Dock

There are two answers I can think of:

1) Samsung and/or Verizon don't give a crap about the Galaxy Nexus and have moved their attention to another phone, if it was ever on the GN to begin with.

2) There were reported software issues with the GN and the car dock, which has made Samsung delay the release of their docks until 4.0.4 is out and has been proven to resolve these issues.

I couldn't tell you which of these things is true, but I could see either one (or both) being true.

I've certainly been very pissed off myself at the lack of support this phone has received. I had a POGO dock for my Nexus One right off the bat, so this situation is very irritating.

I like to put the mount of my car docks in one of my front cupholders. It's not a full size cupholder like in my center console, but it's big enough for a winshield mount to go in usually. I've attached a picture of it. I put the water bottle there for reference-- that's the spot that I use for a mount.

Do you think the Arkon would work ok in it? Or anyone else have another suggestion?

The suction cup itself is 3 1/8" in diameter, so I'm thinking it should fit, however there's a knob close to the base; not sure it'll fit based on that pic.

You could always go with the adjustable cup holder version:

Well, not an official pogo dock. There is the standard non-pogo one that Verizon sells, and the pogo for the GSM dock that with a minor modification works for the Verizon GNex.
 
I too have the GSM dock with the VZW Galaxy Nexus. It was easy to get the volume rocker cavity carved out so that the volume works but I too cannot get the pins to line up. It's as if the phone is just a hair away from being in the right place. Most of the time it won't connect to charge or force the audio through the pins. Or sometimes if I get the phone in almost right it will charge but the audio will cut in and out in a timed pattern. If I push the phone just a little bit in the area of the pins it will connect and charge and the audio will work but as soon as I relieve the pressure it becomes unconnected. This happens with both the stock battery/cover as well as the extended battery/cover. It's a $70 bummer, for sure.
 
Does anyone know if the desktop dock on the Play Store will work with the Verizon model? With the extended battery?
 
You have to sand the hell out of it for it to fit. Even then I believe some are reporting questionable results for the time and money spent.
 
What a bummer. I really dont think I want to risk $50 for something to go wrong after modding it and making it un-returnable.

This is exactly the position I'm in right now. The vehicle dock has worked fine for the almost 2.5 months I've had it, and all of the sudden the vehicle charger that came with it has stopped working. Even it I plug it into the phone directly, nothing. I can however plug my home charger into the dock and it works just fine.

Anyway, sending in my modded vehicle dock to Samsung this afternoon, and I'll let everyone know what happens. To the naked eye, it's actually really hard to tell I've done anything to it, so who knows.

the modification you made did not cause the problem. It should be replaced under warranty. Same with the rooting of a phone can't make your charging port become dysfunctional so they replace it.
 
Just thought I'd post an update about where I am in my fun experience.

Sent the dock into Samsung for exchange on 8/21. They received 8/24. After no word, I called on 8/31 and they stated that they had not "checked it in" yet. After no call back, called again on 9/6. Worked my way all the way up to "executive customer relations", who said that the device still hadn't been checked in, and couldn't be found. He immediately shipped my replacement, which arrived today. A brand new Verizon Galaxy Vehicle MOUNT, not dock.

How pissed am I right now, and man I am going to light them up tomorrow.

And if TheyCallMeBT doesn't answer, I'll know in a few days and will answer as well. If nothing else, I'll put my NFC tag somewhere else in the car, since mine is setup like a switch, hence with my current dock, I have to remove the phone, then tap it back into the dock to switch it.
 
I don't use NFC in any way, so I don't know for sure. But I don't think it should affect it. Let's see teddy's results. Glad I could help!!
 
Well, dang it all to heck! I received the mount today and it seems to be much better than any other generic windshield mount for the Gnex.

Mind you, I have yet to actually mount it in my vehicle.

But my preliminary testing shows that at least for my use, the metal pieces that would one would attach to the phone to interact with magnet on this mount totally disable any possibility of using any NFC functions with this mount.

Oh damn!

I will try some more testing tomorrow, but it doesn't look good to have this awesome mount with NFC functionality.
 
Aw, that stinks!! Are you putting the metal plate inside the battery cover or using a phone cover? I don't know where the NFC chip is located on the battery, but it seems like the small round metal plate gives you a lot of play as to where you can move it behind the battery door. You could also try cutting one of the plates down. The round one is probably about as small as you'd want to go and still depend on it to stay on the mount, though.

I hope you can get it going. What do you have the NFC sticker set to do in the car?
 
Well, I carry my Gnex on a belt holster and nobody makes one without requiring a case, so I've been using the large plate inbetween the case and the phone. I'm not sure if the small round plate under the battery cover is going to work well for me, since it is smaller and has to go through the case as well. I did just test it and NFC works again, I'll test the strength of the mount on the way to work today. I see another drawback to this method as well. I have two batteries and switch between them instead of charging the battery while in the phone.

My NFC tag is set as a switch between car mode and default. Car mode: turn off wifi, turn on bluetooth, set brightness to max, and start car home. Default mode: wifi on, bluetooth off, brightness back to auto.

This is one thing I miss about the Droid 1. It had all this stuff built in. The windshield mount was perfect and easy, put it in car mode automatically. The belt holster was face in and didn't need a case.
 
Well, the disk under my battery cover with the case isn't enough to hold my phone securely with that mag mount. Bummer.
 
If you have a case, why are you putting it under the battery cover? I would put it in between the phone and the case with the adhesive touching the case. If you're needing the smaller size for NFC to work, try cutting one of the adhesive rectangles down. Just be sure to file all around the edges afterward.
