vibrant tips and tricks

My contact list has double and triple names and numbers and if I use Google or phone or Sim I get the same and worse. Is there a simple way to consolidate this with out going contact by contact and deleting them on all three files

This happened when I switched over from my G1

rbcamping, how is your contacts displayed? Contact manager > menu key > display options

grumpieroldman, did you check a pop account or gmail account? Even if you check your e-mail say through a pop account, such as Comcast or Embarq/Century Link, if you don't delete the e-mail from that inbox, and you have email setup to check your pop account, it will download the next time the phone syncs that box and give you a notification about it.

All others, one tip to be considered greatly, just updated: http://androidforums.com/samsung-vibrant/155513-save-battery.html

THat's the thing: It doesn't.... Unless I'm in the Lock Screen.

If I'm in the Home Screen or in an App on the Behold II, and I hit the Lock Button, the screen shuts off.

If I'm in the Home Screen or in an App on the Vibrant, and I hit the Lock button.... Nothing happens. Long press brings up the power/airplane/silent menu.

Hence my confusion.

Are you joking? That button does the same thing no matter what appears on your screen. Something is very wrong with your phone if it doesn't shut your phone off.

Obviously. I've got to think it's software, though, since it works from the lock screen, as well as locking the video player, as it should.

It also works to power the phone on and off.

If it's still an issue after the Froyo update, I'll see about swapping it.

Hell it may just be an ADW issue.

Now, at least, I know it's not by design :-P

:rolleyes:I took a close up picture of a white piece of paper and used it as my background wallpaper. I found that all the apps have a lot of great color, which I love, but they were almost too bright to look at.

With a white background, I could actually see the rich colors of the apps much better.

I thought I was the only person to do this! Too smart minds working alike! Ha!

Here is what I did to get a black screen wallpaper. I went into my bathroom and closed the door, no windowd so no light at all. I took a picture and used that as the wallpaper. Seems easier than creating a file on my computer and transfering it over. So what does everyoe think? Let the arrows fly!:D

You can pause live video recording and resume.

While your recording the movie, hit the power button to black out and lock out the screen.

open contacts and select menu option and select display options and select phone only or sim only whichever one you want to use, this will eliminate the duplicate contacts. It worked for me. Hope this helps.:o

How do you enable the media controls on the lock screen? I had it before I switched to the lock pattern, but since I've switched I can't seem to find it.

I was having this same problem but the solution you posted above worked for me. Except when it comes to texting. When I go to create a new message and click Contacts, under the To field, the list of contacts is back to showing the duplicates.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Regarding those duplicates that you see after clicking Contacts under the To field, could it just be that you see the names of certain contacts more than once because they have more than one possible destination? In other words, if John Doe has two phone numbers in his contact listing, wouldn't his name appear twice specifically in that Contacts list?

No, I don't think that's it because I checked some of them and they only have one number. I think it has something to do with the fact that I have my contacts on both by sim and my phone. Under the general contact listing I have it set to display phone contacts only (since you can edit them that way) but I can't find an option to do this for messaging. Does that make sense?

Yes, it does make sense. I just checked my Vibrant (just got if a few days ago) and it appears that I have the same issue. I don't know how to fix it yet, but if I come up with a solution, I'll be sure to post it here. Anyone else have any other thoughts?

Does anyone know if there is a way to put addresses into the contact manager. If not does anyone know an app that holds all the info I had in my Blackberry (i.e. address, cell #, home number, B-day, etc, etc, etc.

you must save a phone number or contact to "phone" instead of the "SIM" card..

saving a contact to phone will let you save other infos within that contact..

T-Bone:

I use two apps that work together to get all my contacts onto my android cellphone.

The first app is dejaoffice which you can download from the Market. The second app works WITH dejaoffice and is called companionlink. see it at
www.companionlink.com.

These two apps will take ALL your contact info that you had in Outlook and your Blackberry and transfer it all. I had a blackberry before my android so I know that it works. You may have a few problems, as you DO have to tweak everything to make it work for YOU. It did take me a while, especially with categories. But I got it working now and it is perfect.

I would DEFINITELY backup your pst files before doing this. I have heard of a few people that messed up everything when they were first learning how to use the program.

Companionlink will let you use it for 30 days free, then you have to buy it. Dejaoffice is free to download (from Market). I can't remember what it costs. But, it is the best app for contacts, calendar, tasks, and notes for the android system. If you check around you will see that it is pretty good. Also, their support team is pretty good and they are constantly doing updates when they see problems or requests for a new process. They actually have videos to show how to setup the apps.

Hope this is what you were looking for! :D

Is there any way to change the main icons on the bottom (dialer, contacts, messaging, Apps)?

Tap on applications, then menu, view type, choose customizable grid

then click on menu again, edit, touch and hold the on-screen icon of the application you want to replace it with then drag it over to the icon you are replacing.

keep in mind that you can only change the messaging, contacts, and i think dialer too but not the home icon.

Not sure if this is what you are asking for, but when you edit how many screens you have, you can press and hold any of the screens (while in edit mode) and move them around. That allows you to place any screen in the "home" position.

[edit]
On second thought I don't think I answered your question. Even though what I said above does let you make any screen your "home" screen (by putting it in position #4) it doesn't let you make a different "position" (i.e. #3 or #2) your "home" screen. For that I believe you need to replace the launcher with ADW or Launcher Pro.
[/edit]

Or Open home ;)

Using a contact you have a duplicate of, open/select it to view it's info, hit the menu button & an options menu will pop up, choose the "link contact" option. That will open your contact folder & you will then select the other "copy" of the contact & you should get a confirmation saying, "contact linked". It "merges" the duplicates.

Here's something I found the other day... On swype keyboard if you swype from the swype key to the sym key it pulls up a very handy keyboard.:D

This will not silence it when a call comes in, but if you know that you are going into a quiet area swipe down( from the very top) on the main screen and you can hit silence and phone will be quiet. You can also turn off and on from there the gps, bluetooth and wifi.
