Video chat is going to be worthless until...

Here's hoping they fixed the battery life issue. This is a great app, and I think Fring/Qik are old news now. If you haven't tried Tango, give it a go. It's MUCH better.

I second that Re: Tango. I video chat with my friend in Canada who's on an iPhone4 and it works great. Of course wifi is usually better, and they really need to tweak the video compression etc. but overall what a great experience. Using a headset it also a good idea, not really liking the speakerphone on the evo.

Does anybody want to try out their EVO with me? Maybe we could pm each other with our numbers and give it a try. Just set up a time (I'm on the west coast) and I have no idea how to video call do you have to use fringe or something or can you just dial the regular number of someone with another EVO and an option like speakerphone pops up? I have no idea how it works but just in case I did just sign up on fringe.

Last I checked Tango had an issue that prevented the phone from sleeping so that it could listen for incoming calls, and therefore killed battery life. Has Tanog addressed this wake-always-no-sleep issue yet? I'm waiting to install till they fix this issue.

You can check your battery stats to see if your phone even went to sleep at all.

exactly where/how to do this?
and does it tell you exactly which program is not letting it sleep?

Qik's next revision is going to be a worthy contender, it will be on par with Tango and apples face time..

They are also allegedly making a desktop client as well..

But if skype launches a decent mobile chat app its game over for everyone.

Video chat is a novelty item people love to complain about when phones don't have a front facing camera, then when they do, they realize it is just that, a novelty they will quickly grow tired of.

I completely agree with this statement.

Then after reading EarlyMon's statement, I think he could be an exception. :D

If you're the one in your avatar, you'll probably won't have any problem looking for someone to test it out. :D

tango devs have improved the battery management times on the app, however im seeing mixed reviews. i went ahead and installed this latest version and ill see if it runs down my battery noticeably...

You can go to setting/about phone/battery to see the phones Up time vs. Awake time. If the times are exactly the same then there is an app not letting your phone sleep.

You can download the Spare Parts app and go into battery history then select "partial wake usage" from the drop down to see which app is always running.

Tango is available to Iphone users as well as android. My Evo is sleeping now after the update, can't really tell if its draining the battery faster though. I don't think so.

The Tango battery bug seems to be fixed.. It is still taking awhile for the contracts to update..

I sort of agree with this. The only exception being FAMILY.

Our society is growing more anti-social day by day. We generally don't speak with our neighbors...and hate it when someone knocks on the door or calls us during dinner. We communicate electronically so that we DON'T have to see the other person. I personally prefer to email someone than to call. The only time I call is if it's time sensitive. The last thing I want to do is see that person, of have him see me.

As mentioned, family is different.

I've successfully done a video call from my phone to a PC using the Yahoo Messenger app leaked over on XDA. AT LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Video quality was awesome even though it was over 3G and I was in my car at 60 mph. if anyone has yahoo messenger and wants to do an evo to evo test, PM me :D

I'm looking forward to google vid chat in gingerbread

That being said i'm gonna look into that Yahoo one. phone to PC would work for me.

Qik is worthless if it can't be cross-platform compatible. No matter how great they make it.

Whoever makes the first all-platform app will dominate the market. It'll probably be Skype or Google.

Tango is GREAT! and it works with other phones not just the Evo or I4. I don't have my evo yet (waiting for white! lol) but my bf has a Hero and my dad has a Evo and we were able to video chat. He got to see his grandson playing and it made his day. The picture was so clear via 3G connection. This app is a must have for any phone it works on. You can check which ones it works on here Tango
