Root [VIDEO] HowTo UnRoot Incredible by downgrading

idk the guy that unrooted the phone for me, couldnt get the may update installed, so definately no luck with 2.2, i turn off phone then power on with volume key, to go to Hboot but when i go to recovery, a red exclamation mark shows up on screen with a little image of a phone by it.

So for some reason I have confused myself. I am rooted, s-OFF, with official 2.2 update. To unroot do I s-ON first and then follow video? I thought could s-ON and thenflash 2.1 stock image then flash 2.2 image and that would erase all signs of having ever rooted your phone

Try S-ON then flash this from hboot

Everyone else looking at these links, make sure you know what they are, as even though they are all named the same, they are not necessarily the same things!

not sure, i turned off phone, turned back on and went to hboot, clicked recovery and a image of a phone and a red exclamation mark came up, then pressed power button and up volume key. black blue screen came up, clicked on apply sdcard:update.zip then it fails, the phone says E:signature verification failed installation aborted? please help me anyone?

DiegoMejia, you rock sir. Great guide.

Anyway, from what I understand after installing unrevoked-forever then downgrading (using the guide in this thread), my phone will still have "S-OFF" correct? Pretty positive I just want to make sure, because I'm quite sure that's the whole point of unrevoked-forever is that it keeps S-OFF through all of the rom/radio/firmware/etc changes..

Yes?

i have the same problem when i tried to manually install froyo over my rooted incredible. argh.

this may sound stupid, but how are you guys actually installing that file (for downgrading to 2.1) that was suggested at the beginning of this thread?

my computer won't recognize my phone, and i can't seem to find my SD card now on the phone. and of course, the phone only stays on for 2 minutes before rebooting.

can anyone give me tips on how to get that file onto my sd card?

thank you,

jl

In your case, you might have to pull the card out of the phone and place it into a USB card reader or some laptops have an SD slot. You can move the file onto the card that way.

Agree Diego rocks. Did this last night (well technically it was this morning). After following video #1 (great instructions - thumbs up), Dinc was back to 2.1. Dialed *228, option 2 to update roaming then received the OTA update 10 minutes later. I left S-off. Now.. up to date with Froyo and S-off.

Kudos and a huge THANKS to Diego and the folks on this board!

great idea, thanks. however, i can't even seem to be able to mount the SD card onto the phone. so i am assuming putting the file on there wouldn't work at this point until i can somehow mount the SD card...

Dialing #228? What prompted you to do that? I hadn't heard of doing that to "speed up" the OTA update push..

EDIT: Just called to update roaming. FYI it's actually *228 -- I'm sure that's what you meant.. We'll see what happens I guess. **crosses fingers**

yes, typo. sorry. *228 updated in my post above. I heard from someone that may prompt the OTA. May be a coincidence. Don't think it hurts anything.....

Well, might not be a bad idea to pull the card and try, however you may run into issues if you don't have the card formatted (via the PC) to Fat32. That seems to have become a very common theme. Perhaps if you move the contents off the card and onto PC, then format, then move files back, in addition to the PB31IMG, you will be back in business. If all else fails, try another card if possible. All you need on there to get going is the IMG file.

If you're all back to stock and waiting, you could try the *#*#checkin#*#* trick. That would be dialing *#*#2432546#*#*

The keypad won't let me enter that long of an outgoing phone #. It aborts after the last #*..

Eh, I guess I'll just wait. I've done everything right in prep: Downgraded to un-rooted stock 2.1 with unrevoked forever (S-OFF), never updated the radio.. so as soon as Verizon decides I'm cool enough to get the OTA, I'll get it.

Then I'll dance. (And possibly record the dance with my fancy new 720p video and post it in this thread.)

Yeah, think about that for a minute..

EDIT: @iowabowtech Scratch that about not being able to dial all the numbers/symbols. Apparently you don't need to send an outgoing call, it just does it server-side. I just got the "checkin result: success" in my status bar ticker. Sorry for doubting.

Awesome... I needed that file. Thank you SO MUCH. I had rooted and installed various roms/kernels and my phone was a working disaster.

I'm gonna see if I still have the same problems with the actual OTA that I was having with the ROMs and leak... Then VZ can fix it!

Dumb question. Easiest way to format your sd card into FAT32 from the phone? And yes it wipes the card right?

Yeah, just put the card in your computer via card reader or usb attached (if you do it this way you need to set USB connection to disk drive on phone, & make sure you are working with the SD card, not internal memory), right click on the drive in explorer, and format select FAT32.

Yes, it will wipe the card, so make sure you backup anything you care about to your computer first.

Sorry, not sure what else to say. Either something is wrong with hboot, something is wrong with your card (likely. try reformatting), or the files are getting corrupted (could be due to the card being screwed up).

OK get this my SDCard is formatted FAT32 (2GB one that comes with phone) and I never had a problem with it. So after thinking about it I tried a small 512MB one I have from old phone and the image for 2.15 radio worked.... So I guess my SDCard was the problem all along.

Thanks DizkoDan for all your help.

I have decided to keep root and go with a decent Froyo Rom maybe Skyraider.... we'll see

Yeah, this is why we tell people to go ahead and try reformatting anyway. The issue has come up for several people where even though the card says it's formatted correctly, it just isn't working as it should.

Good luck, and have fun! Just be sure to make good backups (both nandroid and apps/data).

hey so i followed this video to downgrade my incredible so i can get the official update. But now my contacts are all gone. I did have the mylookout backup which backed up all my contacts but the stupid thing is that it doesnt have their numbers, just their names and maybe email. Is there a way to get the numbers back.
