Didn't know that dkp was already undervolted... I'm testing -100 at the moment. So far, so far so good... :)
 
What would be among the most efficient ways to transfer files from my old Optimus V sdcard to the new SGS3 (no sdcard in it yet)? I have some .apks and photos and such... I have arch linux, OSX, and Windows 7 and 8 available...

[Actually, it would be nice to be able to do that on all 3 OSs...]

Well, I gave up on Linux (temporarily?) and just installed the LG Optimus V drivers on the same Windows lappie that has the SGS3 drivers.

[edit] And on OSX there is apparently something called Android File Transfer. That just leaves Linux...
 
Is it possible to 'name' the nandroids that the PhilZ recovery creates? I'm never prompted to do that, nor have I seen an option for that?

Cool. Last time I tried that (on the Optimus V) any attempts to restore from the renamed archive would fail (md5sum error, or something...)

I have generally had good success with renaming, although I think that maybe some backups I made on the previous version of Philz and then tried to restore with the current version may have had issues with the md5 sum. Haven't had a chance to play with it further, it is one of my only minor irritants with Philz is that the standard backup names are semi-indecipherable, or at the least confusing.
 
Hey, you guys could have had the decency to warn me it would take an hour to put a screen protector on the new SGS3... Man, that was like brain surgery on a gnat! :p

Sounds like me lol I got the life proof nuud case and the directions were fine except when I got to the optional screen protector lol directions said it had a clear plastic backer I'd have to peel off before sticking it when in reality it was sandwiched between to plastic backers

I'll give ya 3 guesses to how much lint was stuck to it by time I realized, none of the quesses are required since it was Totally covered lol

But thankfully I believe that case was defective and I got a replacement so I got a second chance where in was prepared lol

Jesus. That thing looks bomb-proof. I was at Fry's on Friday (Fry'sday?) and picked up one of these. I thought it looked really nice (it was the best of what they offered in-store), but I can't say it's going to protect much if I dropped the phone.

I've come to be of two minds about the design of the phone: awesomely thin and sexy -- but also slippery taking it out of pockets/holsters.

In a moment of impulse clickitis, I ordered one of these last night. It's a little macho for my tastes, but the Amazonians raved about it, and I was in full ME WANT RIGHT NOW mode. ("No! No research for hours! ME WANT *NOW*!)

(You should have reminded me that a new phone always screams out for new accessories!)
 
I was actually looking at those ugg cases, I bring mine to work doing construction so I needed something with drop protection, I really loved the dust and dirt proof featureof life proof as well

Mine finally boiled to that ugg case, otter box armor series or the life proof nuud, the armor was what I was going to get, size didn't bother me, saw a YouTube video of an air force guy running a brand new i5s over with a bearcat 18,000 pound truck but then I saw 3 other video reviews where just dropping the case actually broke it lol

Then I decided I wanted more then the ugg case, and found the life proof on amazon for $56 compared to the regular price of $89.99 lol



PS I hope the one in the link u posted isn't the one u bought cause its for a s4 and I'm pretty certain the phones aren't the exact same size, I could be wrong there tho

That was just a quick generic link (I didn't notice it was for the 4)--I ordered it directly from Urban (mostly because one reviews mentioned he got one that was a knockoff. I panicked and ordered it directly from Urban Armor (price was about the same).
 
It feels like Carbon 4.4 is close to being ready. When it is, will it be best to do a clean wipe to install? Any other special steps or considerations? Will a restore of my apps from, say, Titanium suffice--or will it be better to re-install everything...?

Just getting prepared! ;-)

Always clean wipe whenever changing ROM's. You can reinstall apps from Titanium Backup to restore apps anytime, just be careful about restoring data as well, definitely don't restore it for system apps. I restore data for some apps and not others, it is kind of a matter of knowing which ones work for you and which ones should start from scratch. Don't know if it indicates anything, but the "last modified" date for the folders on the download page for Carbon now say 1/20, so hopefully the next step will be new zip files in those folders! Also, always nandroid your current operating system before all else!!
 
Still exploring my SGS3 (with Carbon Jelly Bean). Just discovered the "Preferred network mode", with 6 choices. None of them are checked at the moment; would I be better off choosing one? Which is the appropriate for VirginMobile/Sprint in the USA...?
 
Are there issues with MMS on the Carbon ROM I should be aware of? Someone texted me a photo a couple of days ago which hasn't 'arrived' yet...

Stock messaging app won't receive MMS. Hangouts or a few 3rd party apps will, provided you have flashed MopedRyder's fix.

I seem to be having issues with the stock Carbon Messaging app. Hello and Textra seem to work much better for me... (4.3)
 
Perhaps, off-topic (although this thread is pretty general)--I just popped my new S3 into a UAG Scout case. Can anyone recommend a belt-clip/holster that will fit the S3/UAG combo?
