Virgin Mobile gets iPhone

is it possible to get an iphone from somewhere else and put it on VM?

I do know you can jailbreak an iPhone and then choose which network you want to use it on.. it takes some time and a little knowledge.

While jailbreaking was made legal, apple still frowns upon it, and it voids warranty, and apple is also trying to make it illegal again (I this read probably last year).. because thats how apple is, and one of the reasons I dislike them

plus you won't have the roaming off of Sprint right?

Correct. Switching to VM from one of the major carriers will save money, but you can't roam, you can't get three way calling, you can't get call forwarding and you can't fully integrate with Google Voice.

A lot of people can live without this stuff (me, for one) but I'm sure there are plenty of people who would feel the pain. Of course, these limitations apply to all VM USA phones/plans, not just the iPhone.

From what I understood in reading VM's post on facebook this morning, the $5 off isn't an iPhone exclusive, its if you sign up for auto pay, with a credit/debit card. Thats what I read, the post had nothing about the iPhone.

I am not quite sure what I'd really be willing to pay to switch from android to apple.. 8gb is a joke for storage, especially when there is no where to add additional storage.. 16 is ok but still nothing special.

When I look at my iPod touch, it looks like a jumbled mess compared to my android phone there are so many limits apple puts on the iPhone, and screen size hasn't change to keep up with android. I like the bigger screen size, so unless their would put a crazy low price on the iPhone I would stick with android

Take an iPhone 4S 16GB with the the unlimited minutes and unlimited messaging with at least 2GB of data.

Sprint- $110/month (unlimited data)
AT&T- $120/month (3GB data)
Verizon- $120/month (2GB data)
Virgin Mobile- $50/month (2.5GB fullspeed, unlimited throttled.)

NOW, lets do a years worth of service, and include the price of the phone.
Again, very crude math, no taxes.

Sprint 1320+200=$1520
AT&T 1440+200=$1640
Verizon 1440+200=$1640
Virgin Mobile 800+650=$1450

Thanks for putting this together.

If you sign up for auto pay and get the $5 per month discount, VM USA "unlimited" iPhone service would be $600 per year, not $650, right? (12 X $50=$600 vs. 12 X $55=$660)

People considering switching need to remember that the service offered by VM is not the same as Sprint/ATT/Verizon. VM USA plans do not include roaming, three-way calling or call forwarding and can't fully integrate with Google Voice.

If you don't really care about any of that stuff, VM could be a really good deal.

No problem! But I shall go update my math... This is what happens when you are in Calclueless and forget how to do simple math. :P

Hey guys, if you don't want the iPhone, so be it. But please don't come on this thread and bash the iPhone. (As there are pleanty of threads that you can freely do that.) We all know each phone has their pros and cons.

And before you call me out on being a "Apple Fanboy" just know I ain't getting one, I'm getting a Evo V 4G. :D

Carry on!

if you are switching from a major carrier, getting an iPhone wouldn't actually be bad with any price that I could see vm throwing out there, because after you have had VM for a year you will have saved just as much if not more than the cost of the phone.

I switched to Verizon from VM.. but thats because the service in my area is horrid, and now I will be spending an additional 732 in a year now, that cost right there can buy almost any phone out there.

I'm no hater of the iPhone, I do like some of what it has to offer, but on the other hand, I am not a fan of Apple. I don't mean to bash the iPhone if thats what you were seeing in my previous posts, they were not meant to be taken that way.

Hey man, no need to be sorry. (Besides, I didn't find your post bashing anything.)

I was on the VM facebook page and everyone is complaining about the price. Does absolutely no one know how subsidies work? (obviously you guys do.)

They probably should have offered an older version for the same price as the Evo.

Its not like they are offering the Samsung Galaxy S2 or S3.

In defense of those Facebook complainers -most people probably don't know much if anything about subsidies on subscriber equipment. VM (and any other carrier offering unsubsidized phones) needs to do a better job of helping people understand what's up.

I got on apple.com this morning and looked up the prices for unsubsidized, unlocked GSM iPhones and VM's prices are exactly the same. (I wonder if these full price VM iPhones will be unlocked or not? I'm guessing not since you can't buy an unlocked CDMA iPhone.)

Also, while I understand that those prices are just what the handset costs and since there's no contract I can leave whenever I want, that's still a lot of money. Total service+handset cost over two year comparisons make sense, but you've still got to come up with $650 (or whatever) up front before you can even join the party.

I was intrested in the iPhone until i saw the price. Looks like im going back to getting my nexus from google and going to tmobile

Hmm, not bad. iPhone 4s is a great phone. Even though I love Android, anyone that says iPhone sucks doesn't know what they're talking about. For an average person, it's a perfect phone.

Yea "for the average person". You're in a place with above average people.
