Virgin Mobile gets iPhone

My friend has an iphone and its smooth but of course they dont allow widgets. Widgets made my intercept slow too. Lol

A question I have, with the iPhone 5 being rumored now, will VM get the iPhone 5 when it is released or will it have to wait another year before Sprint lets them sell the top end iPhone?

That's a good question but imagine the price if they did let you buy the 5.

Except I doubt the 5 will really cost more, Apple seems to keep the price of their top end phone close to the same price point. Even if it is a bit more (say $50), that isn't all that much on top of a phone already selling for $649.

It would seem to make sense to wait until the new iPhone is announced, though, to buy an iPhone. Even if Virgin doesn't see the iPhone 5, the 4S will likely drop $50 or $100 in price; though the 4 will likely be discontinued.

Chances are VM will never see this phone on the line up until some company makes a phone that produces a holographic projector (hopefully Google makes it first).

Hey guys what do u think if i get the iphone.ill subscribe to automatic payments since i pay 27 a month including 911 and state taxes. And the next month ill unsuscribe and still pay 30$ a month lol. Good smart way to cheat the system out. Unless virgin mobile comes up with forcing you to stay on automatic payments. Thats another option if youll havent tought of anything else. Anyways its only a 3$ diference we would be paying on the monthly bill franklyy

I'm surprised to see no one really talking about this but I figured this would be an interesting topic to discuss. I find it amusing that a few days after the Evo hit, that Virgin announced the newest iPhone (for now) to Virgin Mobile. I feel that starting with the Evo 3D, we've only got some fairly mediocre phones. I felt the Triumph was the first step in the right direction, and then the Evo being our first "real" phone. With the iPhone (being overpriced as usual) it seems we have finally gotten the most popular phone now.

So, what do you think?

Do you care? Are you cancelling your pre order for this phone (if you still don't have it that is) to hold out and save up? Do you regret buying this phone now? Or are you just as surprised as I am to see a prepaid service having this phone (besides Cricket which I think is a rather bleh service after dealing with them for my parents)?

To quickly compare the Evo V 4G/Evo 3D and the iPhone 4GS:

Evo V 4G/Evo 3D
1.2 ghz dual core processor
1 GB RAM
$300 retail. $35 plan (cheapest)
8 GB Micro SD card, expandable to 32 GB
If available in your area, 4G. And of course, 3G.
Android 4.0

iPhone 4GS (VM Model)
800 mhz dual core
512 MB RAM
$649 retail, ($30 plan, with automatic payment on and cheapest)
16 GB flash memory, non upgradable.
3G Only, no 4G.
iOS 5.1.1
(the iPhone 4 will also be available but has a different processor but is for the most part nearly the same phone, but is $100 cheaper on VM)

I am sure that they will make it so they payment has to be automatic to get that rate, and if you switch from doing that it will go up.

I think it won't matter.
At twice the price, there will be a lot of people drooling and few buying. It might however change how pre-paid is viewed by some people. Which is good. I do wish they had announced it a bit further apart. The Iphone hurt the Evo 3d sales, and it will steal some thunder this time as well. The only saving grace now is the price difference will keep the Evo V safe and many have discovered Android is every bit as capable as Ios.

While the OV may seem dismal now, when released it was actually a nice mid-range phone. As was the Blackberry on launch. Both of which were are very good, solid phones. The Blackberry was groundbreaking at the time (first prepaid smart phone), and the OV was a big deal as well being the first well made, mid level phone on prepaid.

Honestly, I think the Evo V and the Iphone have been rushed in order to save the CEO's skin after the failed 4g debacle. We had been asking for this stuff for a long time, and when we do finally get it, it's all rushed Sprint labeled stuff with very little prior notice. Regardless of the reason, I'm glad to see it happening.

What's this 4G incident you're speaking of? And the Virgin CEO has insane amounts of money... no "failure" will ever phase that man.

And yeah, I got a feeling when Virgin got the "ok" to sell the iPhone, they announced it ASAP. And I don't think the Evo V 4G was rushed out, it's just they had old stock of Evo 3D phones available, so what better way to get rid of them, ya know? I don't think anyone minds having a Sprint branded phone either. ;)

The Elite was also rushed, the failure rate is beyond a joke.

The OV was a hit out the park.

Yes, $549 for the iPhone 4 and $649 for the iPhone 4s

Derp.

Ayyyeee, there's no way my parents are going to let me justify spending so much money on a phone. They flipped a shit when we had to dish out $100 for my Wildfire on Black Friday....Even if I spend like my first paycheck AND sell my phone and iPod, they'll be like "where did all that money go???" and I can't be like "My $600 iPhone" because I'll "get a lesson" on smart spending and I'll be like BUT IT'S SO CHEAP COMPARATIVELY but they won't care and BLEH.

I want it but hell, my laptop didn't even cost $600 and it's 4 years old!

Hope you guys don't like Google Maps......

Apple kicks Google Maps off iPhone, builds in Facebook functions | StarTribune.com

SAN FRANCISCO - Apple is kicking an important Google application off its iPhone and buddying up with Facebook rather than Google's social network, as it distances itself from a bitter rival in the phone arena.

Google's Maps application has resided on the iPhone since Apple launched the very first version of the phone in 2007. It's one of the core apps on the phone, and can't be deleted by the user.

But on Monday, Apple executives said Google Maps will be replaced by an Apple-developed app in iOS 6, the new operating system for iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches. It's set to be released late this year.

I hope they copy google maps some how so google can sue there butts off :)
Or atleast delay it awhile

The price alone made me feel ill. Now I'm just feeling dread at the idea of selling this.

It's a hard to justify price on a product that's already outdated practically.

I'm hearing they might arrange lower prices but we'll see. They need to be smart about this. It's costly for all parties involved....

So virginmobile is getting the iphone 4 and 4S end of this month. Wondering what everyone's thinking. Im no fanboy in either way, android or apple, i own a little of both. I got the triumph, which it seems is getting a lot of competition, i own an ipad 2 and a ipod touch. Over all i like android because it is open source and because of the amazing dev team it has on almost all of its devices. I like apple because its smooth, reliable, stabe, and well it does what it is ment to do and very well. The only problem with apple is all the restrictions and there is no customizing, theming, widgets, apps that cost a fortune, and the list goes on. Ive jailbroken both my ipad and my ipod and it helps but it just doesnt compair to android in the amount of features. An unlocked iphone 4S for $30 a month with no contract sounds pretty awesome though. I know this is like phandroid central but with an unbiased look apple does create a solid product that is very stable, which is sometimes hard to say about android. Just wondering what everyone is thinking.

P.s. I bet a grand that a lot of apple fans and iphone users will flock to viriginmobile and vm will up the plans in like a year after everyone moves over.

So....much.....money.....but I want it......but.....so much money.....hell, after taxes, I only make like $48/day. Freaking minimum wage...and I need $3600 so I can go to France....but......iPhone....

Dude, go to France. An iPhone isn't worth missing a trip to France.

Oh, well, yeah, of course! But the trip is with my school, and isn't until March, and I'm applying for scholarships, and my iPod just committed suicide......:vollkommenauf:
