Root [Virgin Mobile] [KERNEL][WIP] RedSpot_Staind-v1.9 CPU/GPU OC UV

Good work! 1.9 huh? That's pretty impressive. On my previous phones I've noticed some could go higher than others so maybe not everyone can run that high.

Pretty impressive list of governors too. :)

Thanks. I feel i may have gotten a golden chip in mine as it runs great at 1.9. Graphics seem smoother at 1.7 hmm.

As far as govs, i kinda wanna trim that list down as i know most will only use 1-3 of them and, they help make this kernel FAT. I'll let it be for a while and then get some feedback from all of you. Lagfree and Pegasusq govs TOTALLY rock.

arg it wont flash. i keep getting an error. just says error flashing zip then your file. the file is on the ext sd removable card not internal. i also have low memory on the sd card due to partioning and using link to sd. i also have low internal memory after backing up. someone help! im also doing all this from my phone and not an outside program if that helps.

Sounds like you have a memory space issue. That happened to me once to. Your gonna have to clear some space because the file needs to be uncompressed during installation. Sorry to hear your having problems.

Believe me I totally understand. I just recently got into kernel building myself and there's a lot more complications/legalities than with ROM editing.

As you are probably aware, Android runs the Linux kernel, and Linux is licensed under the GPL. If you check out that legal document, when you modify kernel source and distribute the kernel publicly you must also provide the source to that kernel.

This is the reason Samsung legally has to post kernel source, and it follows that kernel devs must do it as well if they modify that source.

I'm sure we can get someone to help you jump through the legal hoops if you aren't sure how.

Not trying to stifle development or anything like that, but like I said its a legal requirement for kernels.

I completely understand so no worries. As i said i built this for me and thought i would share but i now see it's not as simple as that. Unfortunately i really don't care for any of that and find it easier to remove this. Thanks for the information and sorry for the lack of knowledge on my part.

Previous GPL discussion deleted.

Kernel removed by the op.

The op is willing to comply with the GPL.

The mechanism how is not important.

Any further GPL discussion in this thread will be initiated by the op alone.

Anyone wanna pick this project back up? Its not hard to do what he did.

I'll probably build a version of this kernel, but I've been busy trying to get the best a2sd script combination I could working. I've pretty much finished the script, seems to work fine on my phone, waiting for others to confirm. I have all the changes JupiterOne made to the official stock kernel source, so it shouldn't be too difficult to replicate and hopefully improve.

the gpu clocking works? (sticks?)
Looks like it does indeed work (to some extent at least). I did two Antutu runs, one with max GPU set to 400, the other set to 200. As you can see from the 2d graphics results, there definitely was a difference! ;)

GPU set to 400mhz:

GPU set to 200mzh:

And yes, the GPU changes did stick, at least they were still there after closing the apps, clearing them from the task manager, then reopening Trickster, still showed my selected GPU speed. ;)
