Virgin Mobile might release a software update

It's almost guaranteed it will simply be the radio fix.
Which honestly is all we need.

As for JB
My understanding is that upgrading from ICS to JB for manufacturers is actually MUCH easier than from previous versions of Android and expected to get easier with each version.

And while there has been very low rumblings of possibly getting JB, I wouldn't hold my breath. Our phone is technically "new", but no carrier or manufacturer is big on updates, with Virgin being terrible about it, only doing it when absolutely necessary. Pile on HTC's sale numbers and it looks even more grim. They won't waste valuable resources on older phones when they can't get new ones to sell. Updates simply don't sell phones.

There are a few saving graces though, based on downloads of Harmonia for the Evo V compared to other versions of Harmonia, I would say that sales numbers are really, really good for this phone. Considering HTC's finances, having a phone selling very well is something they could use. Not only would HTC love the press and sales numbers, so would Virgin, being able to tout having a JB equipped 4g prepaid phone would certainly get some peoples attention.

Regardless, I still wouldn't expect it for at least 6 months.

what do you consider a major change??? gingerbread to ics??? thats a new launcher bro...

for jellybean you get that project butter love/google now/notification sweetness/ launcher additions (better widgets, easier placement and organization of icons and widgets)/ a new lockscreen/

oh and did i mention the smile you get when you know you got the latest and greatest os out there....

yeah... cant see any major changes????

No I'm saying from ICS to JB

As I said, not much change aside from Google now and tweaks here and there.

In 3 months Ive never had a radio error message (S-ON) and Im running Mobster. I really don't care if there is an update or not. These types of threads have been going on for years where everyone second-guesses a random quote from VM, Sprint, ATT, Verizon etc and 99 out of 100 time it leads to a big fat zero.

When i had my MT there was a similar thread that the Triumph was getting 4.0, guess what, six months after - zilch. :)

Forget 4.0, whatever happened to 2.3? The only Virgin Android that I've owned that had an OS update was the Intercept way back when.

I bought the Triumph fairly early in its lifecycle, with rumors appearing almost right away of OS updates to GB or ICS, because "being able to tout having an ICS equipped 3g prepaid phone would certainly get some people's attention." Not too many months later, no updates and the EVO V comes out. I think it's entirely likely that we'll see a new (likely Sprint recycled) JB 4g phone before any JB updates to the EVO V. Let's just hope that one is LTE :)

no doubt its gonna be sprint recycled cause no ones making wimax phones no more...

I was just saying... JB would keep me from switching. My T-Mobile SIM should be here soon...

I prefer Virgin Mobile's throttled 3G speeds and value to T-Mobile's throttle to 2G, so I'd stick around. I've just spent $800 on phones in the past 18 months for Virgin Mobile that have all had terribly annoying problems. Intercept with its unstable and buggy stock software (had to be replaced under warranty once, powered off with a pop sound a few minutes of coming off the charger and took an hour to show it was charging again), Triumph with its unresponsive soft keys and broken aGPS that left me stranded 4 hours away from home in Austin for a half hour and almost making me late for an appointment (had to replace this once also, massive amounts of lint under the screen. Argued with customer service for an hour, then finally got a replacement after posting http://i.imgur.com/LJVq2.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/LJVq2.jpg on their Facebook), and now the Evo V with its SMS errors. JB would make up for it. Any less and I'm going Nexus 4 and porting my number to Google Voice, so I can jump ship easier next time.

I've deleted a couple of unnecessary posts. Two points of order:

1. People come to forums like these to solve problems. Telling them that you don't have the same problems doesn't really help. Help if you want to, but don't snark if you don't.

2. If you see a post that is inappropriate or unnecessary, report it, don't reply to it.

We will at some point see a JB phone, it's inevitable, and possible a Sprint recycled one, but I wouldn't count on it. We only got the Sprint goodies we did in response to Sprints financial woes and them dumping Wimax.

While I would kill for an Evo LTE, I really don't expect an LTE phone on Virgin for another year to year and a half. The absolute bare minimum is 6 months if only due to how many phones they released recently. Unless Sprint is changing how it manages it's prepaid, don't expect much more in the way of new phones for a while.

Considering how few wimax phones are still being made (only a handful) and how many new ones are going to be made (Zero). Your hope of a JB, 4g phone is pretty slim.

Oh snap jelly beam

Keep dreaming. It's the radio fix. Confirmed on their Facebook wall.

This is what people need to remember. Virgin historically never updates phones. They've only done it ONCE. Samsung Intercept. From 2.1 to 2.2.

Triumph never got upgraded past 2.2 and they STILL sell this phone.

According to Sprint, Virgin will be getting LTE relatively soon, which sounds more like a 6 month time frame.

"at this time we are not sure which version it will be."
How do they not know basic details about an update THEY are releasing?

It's for the radio interference bug. It's not JB sorry.

The optimus v also got an update but it was pulled for being buggy and some were shipped with different dot android versions.

When this update comes, I will be very interested to know EXACTLY what it changes, if it's at all possible to know such things. Not just "the radio firmware," but what in the radio firmware? Will it also fix the signal fluctuations? Will it be better than the aftermarket Sprint radios? Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I will beleive it when I see it.
There is no reason for it other than to be the first prepaid LTE or to bring the Iphone 5 and I don't see any reason for them to cannibalize those sales at the moment.

I think if we are lucky, we will get 4.0.4 with this bug fix update.
Won't happen any time soon, if ever.

We can tell by doing diffs and md5's on the files.

But we already know what the proper fix is, and supposedly they know about my thread about it.

Will it be better? The Sprint radios we can cherry pick from. It's possible they could just take our advice and grab the most common, change a number and push the update. There is no reason to write a whole new one. But who knows.

Signal fluctuations is a different matter. The radio effects it, but the software can be tuned to buffer it and make it look more solid than it is.

I'd I could give you 3 thumbs up, I would. You are right on point.

An email I received from HTC:

Thanks for your reply Steve! If you're referring to the radio interface shortage error message that some customers are receiveing, we are aware of this concern and are currently working on getting it corrected for everyone! Be sure to keep an eye out for updates going forward and you should see an update once it becomes available! Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns, and thanks for being a member of the HTC community.

Sincerely,

Joseph
