Root [Virgin Mobile] RedSpot uncapped kernel for VM_SGV_JB_4.1.2

I absolutely love this kernel! I will be making a video on in later this week(most likely). Is there a possibility that we can put my review up on the main post of this thread once I have it up? Also I was wondering if you could add more governors like Smatassv2?

A video would be great. Let me know and i'll place it up top of the thread. As for governors, i just don't have the time needed to research it right now.
 
TIME is a precious thing...
Thought i would share with you guys why my time is short when i'm not actually 'working'. I recently upgraded the 4 speed manual tranny in my 31 year old Trans Am with a 6 speed from a new Camaro. It was the last piece of the drivetrain that hadn't been upgraded and a major milestone. ANYWAY, because i do not run a computer for my old hot rod, i had no way to setup the electronic reverse lockout. This lockout prevents the driver from 'accidentally' shifting into reverse while shifting into 5th gear which is right next to it. The lockout un-activates when your speed is below 5mph and your foot on the break. I have no way of doing this with no ECU so i had to come up with a solution so i would not have to continue to force reverse when i need it. Not wanting to disturb the PERFECTLY designed chi in my cockpit, i had an idea! I no longer smoke and obviously there is no smoking in this antique car anyway so i thought hmmm. I'll just hook up the reverse lockout to the cigarette lighter. This way there is no ugly switch mounted somewhere, i don't have to worry about turning it off and, to activate it, all i have to do is push the cigarette lighter in! So that is what i setup yesterday in-between baking the new kernel i posted.

the lighter is in the ashtray in front of the shifter 'that is a 2012 SS Camaro Hurst shifter knob that i convinced to fit my aftermarket Hurst Billet Plus shifter' lol

I swear, only a couple car companies like Android. Ford, I think Ferrari has an app, and/or Audi. Its EITHER Ferrari or Audi.

yea now that 'they' have a tracking capabilities in our pockets, they want to put them in cars too. Since i do not have a ECU in my car the only tracking device is the rfid in the tires. Yes that's right folks, ALL tires have rfid tags and can be tracked through tolls or monitoring stations placed on major thoroughfares feeding large cities and state lines... grrrr

I say this knowing my next build will be computerized. It's sad the things we give up to have the conveniences and toys we 'want'. One of my boys has a sts twin turbo vette. We recently added methanol injection to it... w00t
Anyway, we took it to get dyno tuned which is basically adjusting the ECU mapping throughout the rpm range, using a laptop connected to the ECU. By reading the output log and dyno monitors, we could burn a new rom with new settings and upload it. After 18 passes on the dyno and adjustments, we got up to 655hp to the rear wheels with only 9lbs. of boost. It can go upto 12lbs.. None of this would be possible without the computer. What would be cool is to have an app to adjust the boost on the fly using an ELM327 OBD2 bluetooth interface plugged into the ECU. Most of my friends just keep their laptop in the passenger seat plugged in with usb interface.

So the version numbers are my made up numbers. My first 0.1 kernel was what my device came with but it was actually the second kernel by samsung for this device. The latest kernel i posted, 0.4 is the 4th kernel samsung has released for this device and so i numbered it as such. The reason for the kernel update on my part was to prevent some peoples device from trying to update to the latest kernel from samsung. I must say for the average user this is a really nice feature. But for us, not so much. heh So, i baked the latest SPH-L300_VMU MC1. This should eliminate any possibility that a kernel update is any cause for an automated update. As before this 0.4 kernel is uncapped. For the samsung change log, follow the link to the kernel blob.

One thing i notice is that when i first did the kernel i was using TWRP 2.4... and after kernel install and reboot, i got that update message. The message doesn't give us an opt-out so, after allowing it to do it's thing 'out of curiosity' it succeeded in updating my kernel. Since updating to TWRP 2.5... the update has never succeeded when trying a fresh kernel. The reboot goes to Recovery and after swiping reboot, the update never happens but the nag goes away... yippy

P.S. My apologies as I should have explained the reason for the update when i posted it.
 
anyhow fixed the MMS issue... just plugged in the APN's manually on go sms pro. just happened to be coincidental around the time i flashed the kernal that sending mms stopped working.

Someone else got one, so its possible. Also, was just asking if you flashed hte Sprint version of the kernel, since a few people got burned by taht for not reading directions (like I did :p)
 
dunno if it's kernel related... however when i was on stock and listening to pandora, if i got a text the music would pause briefly for my text tone to come through. after flashing this kernel it stopped doing that, music just continues to play.
 
I got a Sprint phone in a Virgin Mobile box - out of the box MMS did not work, even after flashing the factory ROM. Everything else worked fine. At the Store when I activated it, it had a Sprint splash screen, after the OTA update it had no splash screen

I installed this Kernel yesterday, no problems - seems zippier, and battery life seems the same.

When I got my evo v, I actually ended up with the sprint evo 3d, everything worked fine though. I never got around to rooting it before it broke to see which roms would be compatible in that situation though.

Yea the reason for that is that the only change to this kernel is removal of the speed cap and that is it.

So this weekend i was hanging out with the professor and maryann and, it just dawned on me, i can make a radio out of a coconut and have high speed internet then, i could see about maybe telling everyone about my new kernel! So i worked on this coconut a little bit this weekend and i just want to say i believe i now have a stable UNDERVOLTED oc of 1.62Ghz and a 192Mhz minimum. I also added init support and zen, sio schedulers. I've added a roster of governors but only have about half of them working so far 'intellidemand, lagfree, lulzactive, smartassv2, pegususq, abbysplug, etc..'. Once i get those wrapped up i will post a new thread for this oc kernel and let you guys test it. I'll then work on adding some icing on this cake like, gpu oc and fast charge support. Hope this helps some of you guys keep your victorias secret undergarments from bunching up... lol

Will your next build include clock speed control? Because I tried using no frills with the current kernel and the speeds wouldn't stick
 
Something I noticed......
Before flashing your kernel, sky map and another sky app did not work as expected. And after flashing, they work fine. Just found it weird since you only lifted the cpu restriction.
 
Hey guys i need a couple of testers for the new kernel. I've been working out some bugs and am sure they are fixed. Am using CPU Master 'free' to manage the settings and save for startup. Am using with Juice defender and jelly bean power saver both enabled and stable. I wasn't able to get it stable at 1.6Ghz at 'first', BUT i think you guys will be happier with these options, speed and battery usage. Keep in mind not all cpu's are created equal. Some can take a lot more then others and some will just burn up. I've seen it happen. So be warned. If you would like to help test this before i push it to the public then shoot me a pm. And PLEASE keep your speed down and hold on to your hat... lol
