Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] Black theme for LGSystemUI.apk

Here... I did some trial and error to find out how much of my workflow could be themed with Holo Themer. Three part screenshot of my list I made as I went along.

I am also using this CM theme hacked into an Xtheme for use with HKThemeManager, another Xposed module, and a few of TeamBlackOut's inverted apps. There is now very little of my system that is not white-on-black.

Addendum: If you set Preferred Activity Setter to use Holo Dark, then when you get a 'Choose the way to open this file' or 'Choose what type of file to upload' dialogue it will be white on black as well. Looks nice.

How exactly did you get that theme to work? I have it installed but hk isn't showing it.

Note my post stating it's hacked into an Xtheme.

I can't post a modified CM theme or I risk the developer's wrath. Someone had converted an earlier version of the free Blacked Out CM Theme and apparently that was OK - do some Googling - but if you want to get the latest working you'll have to do some work on converting it yourself - Google 'CM to Xtheme converter' and there should be a few options available to you.

So I flashed this through cwm and it just made my status bar disappear. I'm on v6 deodexed if that matters.

Did you only flash this or did you also flash the qslide removal?

I'm on deodexed v6 as well and didn't have a problem with this, but the qslide removal always made my status bar disappear. Had to do that one manually.

I had already had qslide gone. I removed q slide months ago. All I did was try and flash and it removed my status bar

Got it! It requires using GravityBox to set the holo grey to solid black instead, then setting Holo Themer to tell Settings to use Holo Dark, then reboot.
Screenshot imminent.

I notice an annoying 'white screen' is displayed for a half second when going into the phone settings - after which the 'inverted' or black background is displayed. It goes away for a while (probably because settings is in cache) but eventually reappears.

Anyway of eliminating the 'white screen' before going into the inverted display of phone settings?

I tried to use holo themer for the settings it worked but when you click on a setting it would FC so I just reverted back to default

NetSpeedZ,
Not that I know of. I believe some Google apps use the trick that some Apple apps use, where they have an image that loads instantly while the app's content loads. You can see this in Hangouts, the Play Store, and Gmail as well, and it's especially noticeable if you have a custom theme that loads at the same time as content, or custom DPI applied per-app. I've learned to just live with it.
lilrich, what settings cause FC? I haven't had any problems yet but if there is something amiss I'd like to stress test it, and see if something can be done.

NetSpeedZ, try this: Project Butter Enhancer
It claims to be for a different device, but the functions it gives work well on ours.
Basically it lets you define (by editing a text script file) what apps you want to remain in cache after the first time they're opened after boot. The higher the 'renice' level, the more resistant they'll be to being cleared from memory and needing to redraw.
I strongly suggest finding the pname for your launcher and adding it to this list. I use Nova - com.teslacoilsw.launcher.
Make sure com.android.settings appears on the list under 'resident system apps'. Open settings once after reboot. It will then be resident in memory thereafter.
You may still experience the white flash the first time you open it after a reboot.

Looks like the 'force close' comes when setting Holo Themer to 'Holo Dark - No Actionbar'. When set to the simple Holo Dark, everything is fine.

------------

Holo Themer's description warns about that - what I've found is that if in doubt, set it to just Holo Dark. If an app doesn't formally have an action bar, instead of force closing it will just add an extraneous action bar up top, which is your cue to use the No Action Bar setting.
Whereas if you use a No Action Bar theme on an app which has and needs an action bar, it will force close.

Yes, I found that out but good to have confirmed :)

The white screen isn't really that big a deal. I can live with it and not have another app installed to take care of this one small problem. Seems like a lot of overhead for something so simple.

Anyway, now I'm trying to find an inverted Google Play that works. Haven't found one yet that works without breaking something else, i.e., GMail or something else.

------------

TeamBlackOut has an excellent inverted Play Store. Install their app here, then go into the Beta Apps category to find the latest (4.8.20) Play Store - the one you want is just 'Black Play Store', not the 'Stock' or 'KitKat' version. Once it's downloaded the TeamBlackOut app will probably force close. No worries.
Reboot, use Vol(-) Lock combo to get into CWM, and navigate to sdcard/Download to find the zip. Flash and reboot system. Poof.
Happy inverting. Hope this helps.

I've used TeamBlackOut stuff before and like it. Just didn't know where the latest Playstore version was located, i.e., Beta Apps.

Downloaded and its working.

I tried the latest GMail, however, there is apparently some issues with the new GMail (4.7.2) and the newest version of PlayStore.

Anyway, appreciate the clarification.

The latest Gmail build on the Play Store is 4.8.
The latest TBO Gmail has issues with sync unless you convert it to a system app.
I have the latest Play Store Gmail with the Blacked Out Xtheme applied to it and it looks decent. A couple black text on black issues but nothing to make it unusable.

Showing the latest Gmail build in the black Play Store. I couldn't get a decent shot of the mostly inverted Gmail... It has some issues:
The highlight on unread messages is the same color as the text, so you have to select them or open them to know what they say.
Message bodies are gray on white.
The 'manage labels' screen is white on white
... Would not recommend this to anyone as picky as I am! It does complete my collection of inverted GApps though.

Good to know.

I'm using the older 4.5.2 GMail version and it does good for me - for now.

------------

4.5.2? The TBO version is 4.7.2, if you're willing to use an outdated version I'd strongly suggest using that one.
I'm just a stickler for being on board for Google update Wednesdays.

Yep, I'm the same way, however, Could not get the blacked out version of 4.7.2 working - kept crashing on me - so I stuck with 4.5.2 for now.
