Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] [Recovery][VM]CWM 6.0.4.8 Touch for the LG Optimus F3

About never using "Recovery Option", what is that to be exact ? Would #adb reboot recovery result a factory reset ?
Yes any form of "reboot recovery" will result in a factory reset for the vm-f3. This is a product of our bootloader being locked. It's a long and technical store.

Excellent job figuring out the problem guys. If you have any other issues let me know.

Ok, wanted to update after I've had more time to play with it. The files are successfully copying to the correct spot, but I still can't get it to boot into recovery mode. Starting to frustrate me as I repeat every step right before I go to reboot and nothing.

Just confirming that you are rooted?
Have you ever accessed recovery, even stock?

Down volume may be touchy. I know on my device if not pushing near the very bottom of button it does not always work.

Volume down + power : hold both until you see wording upper left to release to boot recovery.

If no go you might add home button to the mix.

Ok, finally got it to boot into recovery mode. Chose to backup on /external_sd

Then it says:

Backing up recovery image...
Backup of recovery image completed.
Backing up system...
Error while making a backup image of /system!

Tried a couple different SD cards thinking that was the issue, but same thing.

Edit: Finally got it to backup. Took a couple restarts, but it finally got copied. Now to try to and reformat it and reset everything on it and see how that goes.

A nandroid backup is quite large. Around 1GB or more depending on how many apps you have installed. If there is not enough room on the sdcard this will cause an error. So my question is; Do you have at least 2GB left on the sdcards you tried?

Just saw your edit...
Glad to hear you got it working.

Could this help me with this LS720? I'm willing to learn whatever it takes to get full access to recovery for this phone, and rid myself of the read-only memory problem. If anyone wants to help, respond here or PM me - LW

Hello, I have the VM F3 which was rooted and verified with Root Chceker. I followed the steps for installing cwmt via Windows Installer, and all seemed to go as expected, in that when I started the batch file, a SuperSU dialog popped up on the phone asking for su privileges, I clicked allow and on the PC showed Done on the Windows command window.
However when I try to start into CWM recovery (Pwr button and Vol up), the stock recovery still comes up giving 2 options, "press power button to factory reset, or any other button to cancel. Can you tell me if I missed something in the recovery boot sequence or does it mean the cwmt install wasn't successful. Thanks

You need to hold the volume button in the down position plus the power button to enter recovery.
The vol down did the trick, thanks! My first time using the touch version of CWM, very easy to navigate, almost too easy as it doesn't require having to scroll the to the 'yes' to confirm an action. Thanks again, the instructions worked like a charm.

gherkaul, what's up?

I did the bat install via PC for the VM version of CWMT 6.0.4.8... now, I've tried the volume down button/power from power off, until I saw the release buttons prompt... all the phone did was reboot, without going into factory reset (thank goodness)... maybe I didn't hold things down long enough. Tell me what I should be looking for when I try to enter recovery, other than the release buttons prompt... I haven't given up yet, and you've been very helpful.

Good to hear, glad I could help.

I never officially tested it with Boost but I believe other Boost owners are using it with out issues.

Since my install of the VM version of CWMT, nothing happens. If the charger is plugged in, the phone goes right to the battery display; if the phone is not on the charger, it simply reboots - without going into factory reset.

Your's is a special case, LW. Your not able to write to any partition on your device as you've told me many times. The stock recovery probably became corrupt during the flash/install of the custom recovery. A device with no working recovery installed would just boot back to the system.

So, I'd have to get another stock ROM from LG? Would that do the trick... just start from v7, ground zero? Gosh, I hope so... LW

I hate to say it but that wouldn't work either. Even if you could get LG to send you a copy of the stock rom (which they won't). You would still need a way get it on to your device. Once again, your not able to gain r/w permission to the system, data, cache, etc., nor are you able to use the Flash Tool or recovery.

I wish I know what was going on with that phone of yours, LW. I also wish I had an easy fix...sadly that's not the case. :o

gherkaul, what about a Windows install of TWRP? I installed CWM's version of Superuser, and the phone now boots up without the "Android Is Upgrading" prompt while all apps get 'optimized'. Also, if you know anyone that has further knowledge, I'd appreciate any assistance at this point (and, thank you for all you've done to help). I had great luck with TWRP when my HTC 3VO was working (sadly, it got dropped into a hot tub when someone was taking pictures)... I appreciate anything you can do. Maybe even a walk-through with Flash Tool, to rule out something I'm doing wrong. Cedric Counotte (of 3C) recommended motochopper. Sheesh, I followed sammyz's directions to the letter... maybe if I copy all of the data off of my SansDisk Class 10 32 gB micro SD, and re-format it to this phone... well, sound off when you've got some time, and thanks - LW

You can try the twrp and see. I believe you are doing everything right. It's not like you're a noob to this stuff...right. It's just the lack of experienced Boost owners who may have found solutions who are members on AF. I'm seeing more boost owners reporting problems with trying the recoveries, roms, flash tool, drivers and the like meant for Sprint/VM. Unfortunately I have no Boost F3 so I haven't a clue as to why these issues are occurring or how to fix them. :(

I'm always on the look out for someone who may be able to help you. :D
