Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] [Recovery][VM]CWM 6.0.4.8 Touch for the LG Optimus F3

I'm missing something here. this is not working. I run the bat, i reboot into stock recovery, and nothing happens. I also tried running the bat with the phone booted.

nada. am i missing some drivers? doubt it since i've connected my phone before...

Did you tried the "2nd-Init Recovery Flash Version" using LTE2 Recovery App (also known as 2nd-Init Recovery app)? Download and installed the app on your device. Then download a copy of the 2nd-Init Recovery Flash Version from my OP to your external_SD. Now start the LTE2 app and tap the install recovery button. Then once that is done tap the reboot button. When you are in the LTE2 recovery you can flash the 2nd-Init Recovery Version zip you copied to your sdcard. If all goes well you can uninstall the LTE2 Recovery app. Fyi, the LTE2 or 2nd-Init is not a true recovery in the sense it is its own partition, if you are wondering why you can't just use that for nandroid backups. It's just a work-around before we had the loki exploit because the bootloader is locked. It overlays the boot image in memory and is not truly on its own partition. Hope this works for you. :)

Everyone this may be the wrong thread, but this is useful information. I've found how to boot into recovery on the t-mobile f3 (not sure about the metro pcs) with a key combo! You can boot into recovery by turning it on normally and then pressing back and menu simultaneously as soon as the white led light for the two buttons appear. The first time the phone will keep rebooting a couple of times and it might take a while as long as you keep pressing back and menu, but the second time it boots into recovery very fast in a few seconds. I have confirmed this working and this even helped me unbrick from a bootloop by doing a restore from a previous backup. So yes the t-mobile f3 (and maybe metro) can enter recovery from this method!

I appreciate your desire to help but that method is for the LTE2 2nd-Init recovery. Thanks for sharing though. :D

So its only for the lte2, not for the cwm you made? Ok, umm what about toggling the volume up and down butttons? GameTheory said this and I've also confirmed this working for lte2? Does it work for cwm?

Yes I'm sure it does. Your with T-Mobile, this ATR is for VM F3's. Your in the wrong sub-furom. There are vast differences in these two variants. You should not flash anything other then metro/tm. All kinds of nasty can happen.

Yes I know this is dangerous, but I've heard this works for the t-mobile f3. Also I have been meaning to ask this: can you tell me what is the difference between lte2 2nd recovery and the cwm recovery you made? Do they do pretty much the same job in backing up + restoring and flashing zip files?

As I said before the button toggling works for the 2nd-Init recovery on "any" device it's compatible with. It's not a true custom recovery image in the sense that it on its own partition. The explanation is very long and technical you'll find a simpler answer then I can give if you Google it...remember Google is your best friend for answers. The 2nd-Init is actually obsolete at this time for the reason it was created. My advice would be to use one of the true custom recoveries made for your carrier specific f3 (MetroPCS/T-Mobile) and not play with fire unless you really know what you're doing. Just know that the LG Optimus F3 "series" of phone does not mean they are all the same phone on different carriers. They are slightly different versions with the same name on different carriers. Hope this helps you understand.

Thanks for clearing that up :) I'm just going to try the cwm recovery by playfulgod since its proved working for the t-mobile f3. I just wanted to check this out since someone was able to get this on their t-mobile f3.

I see method two but what if I do not have any ROM intalled and just have CWM 6.0.4.4 installed is there a way?

Is anyone else getting an error that the page is not available when clicking the link to download the CWM windows installer? It is possible it is just my work internet not liking drop box. I have not had time yet at home to try on my personal laptop.
If the link is broken though, could OP please reupload? Thanks so much!

I checked the link and it's fine. Must be on your side.

Trying to get this working, rooted my phone with that towelroot. Tried with the installer.bat but either I didn't understand or it wasn't working. Started the installer.bat and with phone connected to USB turned it on with Volume Down + Power, it never got past * daemon started successfully *. So I put the 2 files in manually and it goes to this CWM but can't backup to external SD, won't mount it at all.

Edit: And now it looks like I accidentally disabled this CWM while exiting it and can't get back into it.

You need to run the bat file with the phone turned on and with usb debugging turned on. After it installed then turn off the phone then do the button combo

Thanks for the reply, forgot about that USB debugging. Installed it that way and it installed but still the same problem with CWM as I was having with the manual install method. Trying to do a backup it gives me 'Error mounting /external_sd!' and 'Can't mount backup path.'

Do you have metro pcs, t mobile, verizon, sprint, virgin mobile?

So CWM installed successfully?

For backup you are selecting external SD card?

How is your external SD formatted/partitioned and how much room left on main partition?

It sounds like the SD card might have a format issue with recovery.
What brand & type sdcard are you using?
What did you use to format it?
What is the format you used?

Actually haven't formatted it yet, took it straight out of my previous phone and put it in this one after rooting it to start customizing it. Formatting it now to try again but it has about 2GB free.

Edit: Thanks for the help, looks like formatting it fixed it. Didn't think that'd be a problem since it was being used in another LG phone. Time to get rid of QSlide! :D

was having some issues but it was all user error... once i figured out what i was doing wrong it worked like a charm... thanks!

Go here and follow bkttk2's guide at post #6.

Im rooted on version 7 and have done all three methods... Windows installer. Manual Install of the aboot and recovery, (I had to mount as r/w in root explorer) and also with the 2ndinit lte2... Nothing, when i use the 2ndinit i get installation aboredted.. Am i clear that your supposed to be attempint to flash the CWM 6.0.4.8 Touch zip file?? Why would you try to flash this isnt it meant for windows? And upon opening it i did not find any recovery.img or anything.. Granted i still tried to flash that excat zip that is provided here. And i still whenever i attepmt to access recovery by shutting the phone off and then Vol Down and Power i get the standard recovery menu, with no option to backup. No Clockwork mod. So frustrating! Lol..

Any Suggestions?

You have it backwards. Unzip the file, then run the .bat file with the phone on and usb debugging turned on.

Afterwards use the button combo to enter the recovery.
