Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] [ROM]AdvancedStock8 AS7v22 Update - Back to life!

I am currently running AdvancedStock7 (version 7 of Virgin Mobile's firmware). I have been working with Sprint Executive Network Support (as a result of a Better Business Bureau complaint I filed) and they want to push a reprovisional version 8 of the firmware to fix the sending of MMS messages. I'm guessing this will cause me to loose root. Would like to know if I allow and accept this pushed update if I can get root back.

Is root of the Optimus F3 the actual cause of not being able to send MMS messages?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I believe u can use stump for root and the MMS is common right now if u put in the APN manually it works thats what I did using chomps or gosms pro good luck

You would first need to unroot with the superSU app before installing any update. You may need to have twrp installed first before unrooting and installing the update. cwm breaks the update and causes a soft brick.

Already using ChompSMS, however, I'd like to find a way to use another texting app, i.e., 8SMS.

Are you referring to the option to perform a 'Full unroot'?

Once this unrooting process is complete and the provisional update is installed, use Stump to reroot?

With Virgin Mobile v7 and the kernel, I'm able to use the stock Hotpot. Does v8 update have this capability?

Yes, do a full unroot and when you update, use stump root.

V8, people are reporting that hotspot no longer works without downloading an app from the play store.

Not having the built in hotspot is the a main reason why I never updated to v8. Never could get the Play Store Hotspot apps to work properly.

If I have Sprint Executive Tech Support push the v8 update out to me and I find it doesn't work the way I need it to, can I restore a previous nandroid backup (which will be v7)?

Absolutely :)

Thanks for wonderful works.

I have a question.
Today I installed it in my phone.
I did all steps (15 steps)
and can see internal sd swapped with external.
but whenever I installed 3rd party apps, external sd(original internal sd) was reduced.
how can I install apps to internal sd??
do I have to install other app for that also like app2sd?

That currently is not possible. Please refer to previous post(s) a few pages back to see why.

Basicly, Although the swap is successful, but because it is not done during boot, (But after) the APK from the play store is still put on the Internal Storage. The OBB files from games, or downloads from the web browsers will be put on external though. (Like if you were to install GTA San Andreas, the apk -> Internal while the game data itself (1.5GB) -> External)

I hope this helps! If you want a true swap, it will need to be done at the kernel level.

It might have broke, there is a thread on these forums with the service jar hacks for the native wifi hacking.

I was using it for a while when i had the phone.

You might need to search for it.

I had a 64gb card already in the phone when I flashed this rom. Sdcardswapper recognized it and swapped the data. Now I want to use a 16gb instead, so what steps do I need to take to replace the current card with the new one; without messing up the way sdcardswapper operates? I want to make sure all of the right folders end up where they are supposed to end up. There is not really any detailed instructions about disabling SDcardswapper from the creator Sandix. Here is what he says about disabling it.
To Disable:

  1. Open SDCard Swapper Fx3
  2. Select the "Disable SDCard Swap" checkbox
  3. reboot phone.
  4. enjoy.
SDcardswapper

Can anyone help tell me what the proper procedure is for exchanging a new card?
