Root [Virgin Mobile] Stock .tar for Virgin Mobile

I don't know. I backed it up with 2.5.0.0 so I was just wondering. I really don't know what i'm doing :(

I think that if the backup could be made with TWRP 2.4.3.0 then it would work and be able to be restored by other users using 2.4.3.0. That version of TWRP has created reliable backups for me. I would be glad to do a factory reset and take a backup, but I have been so busy I haven't had time to sit down and do it. I rely heavily on my phone for my job.

I have given the stock dump along with the nandroid backup to garwynn over at SXTP developers and he says he will try to repack those tonight if time allows. This means that we might possibly have a OneClick stock rom or at least a TWRP and CWM flashable zip for everyone. This will make things a lot easier :)

Here is garwynn's response to the system dump.

How did you dump this? dd?
Basically, if you dump each partition that you want and then label them <partition>.img I can then start working on it.
You'll need to know what mmcblkp## partition they are though to do this way.

And when you do the ROM, do 2. One stock like above, one with this just flashed right before dump:

Boot partition is also handy to have. The rest I'll check with another guy and see what they were able to come up with.

If it helps, I flashed the stock nandroid and did a factory reset but I can't get wi-fi or bluetooth to turn on, and it looks like the mobile data doesn't work even though it has a 3G connection. Maybe it needs more than just the /system to get the connections othre than phone calls to work

Your radios probably don't work because nandroid backups don't back up the modem from what I understand. If I can pull the modem.bin from the stock phone and make an Odin tar out of it then you should be set.. I just a, trying to figure out how to do that with no luck yet.

EDIT: I know how one would pull the modem from the phone but I need it's partition block number. For instance, the modem is on bml12 of the Galaxy S series. (system is on stl9, etc). If someone more knowledgeable than me can tell me what block number the modem is on the Victory then I can make an Odin flashable tar file of the system, modem, and kernel so people can get back to stock.

Okay, guys. It looks like I have successfully created an Odin flashable TAR file of the Virgin Mobile stock rom. It does not include the modem since I cannot figure that out yet. It does include the system partition, the kernel partition (Zimage). It does NOT include the stock recovery so you can keep TWRP as your custom recovery when you flash it. I am very nervous about uploading it since I have not tested it. I don't want to brick anyone's device. It hasn't been tested yet. If any developer would like to look at it, I would feel better about posting it. If it looks like it checks out then maybe someone can help me figure out how to extract the modem and put it into the Odin package. Then we're all set.

EDIT: I used cygwin to package the boot.emmc.win, and system.ext4.win into an Odin TAR file. It is digitally signed. I also added an extra level of security and safety to the TAR by adding an MD5 for it to verify against.

If a better skilled developer wants to look at this flashable Odin TAR of the stock ROM that I made, send me a PM and I'll send the dropbox link. I really don't want to post it on here in case it bricks someone's phone.

Okay, I feel like I'm spamming this thread now but just wanted to let you all know Shabbypenguin has told me how to pull every partition off the phone including the modem so when I get off work late tonight I'll see if I can do it :)

Edit: sorry can't figure out how to pull the modem its all new to me. Someone more experienced will have to do it.

Can you post the recovery for Virgin Mobile? I got the OTA update but when I flash the stock recovery in the sticky thread I get the error "assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "goghvmu" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "goghvmu""

I don't have the stock recovery on my phone anymore. Seems the stock recoveries posted are for Sprint. Someone will have to post that for us. If it's already posted then I must have missed it. I've been very busy at my job lately. Political season here in town so my job at the radio station gets crazy in the production end ;)

I just wanted to post here to tell those who have managed to restore the nandroid backup of the VM stock rom but your radios aren't working... that the modem has been successfully ripped from my VM phone! Thanks to the skillful help of g60madman!!!

I have sent him the rip and he will be making a TWRP flashable zip of the stock modem for you guys!

Also, expect him to have a flashable zip of the entire VM stock rom later on.

I don't mean to speak for him, I just wanted to let you guys know you haven't been forgotten and hope is not lost. Be sure to give him a big thanks (and donations for further development if you are able). I'm sure he will posting more info in the forum shortly ;)

A side note: You will notice that the All Things Root sections have been split up into two sections: Sprint and Virgin Mobile. This is to eliminate the confusion that led to users accidentally flashing stock images and other files from the Sprint device. All development on the Virgin Mobile device will be found in its own section and likewise for Sprint. Hope this helps. Thanks to the administrators and moderators for getting the separation done for us.

It will all get better from here :D

I'm so glad they split the forum up... Was definitely a needed addition... Thanks for the heads up, my phone is starting to get dusty! LOL

Here is the backup using TWRP 2.4.3.0

http://db.tt/47jl4yka

What I did was make a backup using twrp, when it finished, delete the files, but keep the folders, unzip the files from what I quoted using 7zip into the computer, then move three unzipped files to the last folder off the backup string (it will be a date), restore that in twrp, and you should be good to go

Hello dose anyone have the stock recovery tar for the virgin mobile samsung galaxy victory to flash with odin ? A also cmw recovery.tar for odin

Don't think there is a .tar for the whole system, moonknightus made an mg5 stock zip for twrp that included system, recovery, and kernal which gave the option to root or not so you can go completely stock and unrooted.
