Following different "forums" for awhile now and I must say that to some it's a very complicated process when dealing with cellphone-terminology. Especially to those who are just getting into it or just followed some simple steps from a webpage and either got a successful root or are searching every page/forum that contains any wording to do with their cellphone.
I've been both and had my fair share of "experiences" on various forums. Actually started with a VM Optimus V that I had not knowingly wiped through CWM. All I wanted to do was just do a complete factory reset on it. As like my PC's and the 1000+ or so I've worked on. Which is reinstalling an OS and starting "fresh" that's a great word Fresh.
I went to a "forum" and tried to ask questions on step by step instructions on just getting it back to stock and had yet to wipe it. Was a rated member who came to answer my questions. Was told in a very umm.. "short and wide" way of saying that basically "just follow my directions" and that's it. That was so helpful in the way the member was so willing to send me down a path with a zip file and pat on the back.
Needless to say that the VM Optimus V after trying everything to get it to recover from every "forum" on android. It was a lost cause and is sitting 5 ft from me that will power but won't be seen by screen or PC. Gone and rest in peace.
Now I've had a VM Samsung Victory since close to ship date and was one of the first few to root it with Odin/TWRP. Now I'm back to wanting to "Reinstall OS" Factory Wipe/Reset? Only thing that was ever done was Root and "could careless about the apps". With over 2,000 apk's and a 32GB card I'm fine with losing everything. However, I only want to get it back to "out of box" condition to start "Fresh", reinstall root (if needed) and apk's. Don't want to have to Reactivate it when finished but just a fully factory fresh phone that works like it was Day 1.
The only reason I'm posting on here and not following step by step or twists and turns is because when I started this adventure last time I ended up a New Phone bricked with no way of ever getting it back I believe. Now I asked before when my phone was new. How could I get it back to Non-Rooted State and Factory "Fresh" and was once again helped by a "High Member" who suggested a Zip file with little explanation. When asking for a more thorough process and a few questions I had. The person helping was patting me on the back and sending me back down the path.
After not being on the "forums" and helping some Windows 8.1 users with SLIC for awhile. I see that the Zip file I was getting to solve my unroot problem from a "member" turned out to be a Zip file for Sprint users and not VM. Even though it was explained from Start VM and even "member" said VM.
Guess it's a good thing I didn't use that Zip. Huh? After emailing two Members on this forum only because of not wanting to broadcast this issue with the Zip file. I've decided to post this and if contact to said "members" is frowned on then I apologize for the PM's. Thanks to anyone willing to contribute. It was only rooted with TWRP and does not have the MG5 update. There has been Nothing done to this phone except apk's Su and BBox etc. Which is just another reason to Unroot so don't have to push "Update Later" tab every few. No roms have been placed on the phone because of the nice debacle of the Great VM Optimus V. As for any software needed for this job. Which you wouldn't believe the software accumulated from "forums" in different approach's on this issue. People need "Ease of Use" .. Myself? Tech for 25+yrs.. Haswell i7k current and 1,200 MHZ O/C on a Northwood on Air. Yet, a Cellphone? Fun Stuff. This Victory I actually would like a Victory.
