Root [Virgin Mobile] [VM SPH-L300] Wifi and Bluetooth will not turn on

Darfman

Newbie
The symptoms are just when I go to turn on WiFi or Bluetooth via drop down menu, Settings switch, or even withing the individual settings under WiFi and Bluetooth, the switch moves over to on and is still grey for about 5 seconds and then switches back to off.

I assume that it has something to do with my modem (more information here), but I wanted to check if the problem could be something else since I do get service (both 3G and 4G when I am in the city). I have restored to stock everything with g60madman's files, except the modem (which is still Sprint's) as I can't find that anywhere... Thank you in advance for any help!

Hook your phone to your PC after you get it into Download (Odin) mode. Start Kies and under the tools menu pick "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization". It's up to you if you want to do backups etc when prompted. It will take a while to download and install the fix but when your phone reboots Wifi and Bluetooth will work again.

It worked! Thank you so much :) I didn't even think about Kies (link to download for anyone else's reference). I just did the backup and everything worked out fine, only a 30 minute process really.

FYI- I've removed most kies related stuff from Victorious, so if you've flashed it, you'll need to return to stock to get kies to work.

When you flash victoriuos theres no going back. I didnt ignore your PMs just tapatalk wont send the replies idk why. Are you trying to return the phone to the store?

Restore g60s bavkup and take it back and unroot it lol. That'll also give you a reason. "Help me!!!! My phone won't act right, Kies wont work anymore and idk why"

What trouble are you having restoring the stock backup? Please be specific as to what error messages you may see, and what point in the process it stopped.
(instructions here)

Did you try reflashing TWRP itself via Odin, then restoring the stock backup?
(instructions here)

If you can get the stock backup to work, then you should be able to use Odin to flash the stock recovery image. That's as close to completely stock as you can get (I'm not certain this removes all traces of root).

Well i just tried reflashing TWRP and i got a fail at the end . it said " cannot open serial (com) port. i'm not sure what im doing wrong

Well i just tried again and i got a pass. so im going to try g60 backup once again.

I've got the same problem here. I had an issue with the sdcard among other things and flashed the sprint rom trying to unroot. Finally figured out how to flash the stock rom after a couple of scotches, and everything works after reinstalling TWRP and SuperSU/Busybox except for the wifi / bluetooth. Have been searching for any solution but am not seeing anything that works.

Don't know if you ever found a solution to your problem, but I've run into a similar issue during my development of Conquest.

I fixed it by rebooting to recovery and connecting the phone to a PC with ADB installed.

C:\path to adb>adb shell
# mount system
# rm /system/bin/sh
# ln -s mksh /system/bin/sh
# exit

Then reboot the phone. This fixed it for me. Sometimes the busybox installer breaks the /system/bin/sh symlink and causes issues with wifi and bluetooth.

Gents,

Still no luck with this backup showing in TWRP.

I have:
Placed the extracted TWRP into /sdcard/TWRP/Backups/1979.****
Placed the extracted TWRP into /ext_sdcard/TWRP/Backups/1979.****

Installed TWRP v2.5 (I know there are errors, just a troubleshooting step before I asked for help)

Installed TWRP 2.6.3

RECOVERY STILL DOES NOT SHOW

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Can I use the DD script to force the files back into the respective locations with the phone booted and running an ADB shell from PC side without causing a brick?

If the phone was offline for this process I wouldn't be concerned, just wondering if this will make a brick while doing this "live".

-Preemptive Thanks a Million

P.S. I have the same gripe as the o.p. (WiFi and Bluetooth will not activate), I installed a sprint rom to get to 4.0.4 so I could pull the MSL/SPC off of the phone, it worked just fine, simply need assistance to get back to stock seeing as how I could not do a dd backup without root, and was not half as knowledgeable as I am now.

You have to make your own backup with TWRP first then extract the backup that you downloaded into the serial numbered folder that TWRP creates.

I don't think anyone he a fix for that. Some ppl have gotten kies to work. And try to spread the word that flashing a sprint ROM to VM victory will permanently break WiFi and Bluetooth, every time. And I haven't seen any one post a successful fix. You could try a deodex backup. http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?p=6268832 but the sprint ROM probably changed your basebands and none of the backups are likely to work. Sorry bro. There are a few stock backups floating around, if its already broke can't hurt to try them.

Flashing to Sprint ROM overwrites the modem/radio/various other partitions on the phone. I may have a solution for you. Give me a few minutes to package it up and throw it into an updater zip.

(Why doesn't this forum have a formatting option for a horizontal rule?)

Ok, so here's the deal. I did a DD pull of every partition on mmcblk0 from my phone except the ones that have a full image file included in the MG5 ota update, the recovery partition, the system partition, the data partition, and the 'backup' partition. I put these img files, along with the stock kernel and the full image files from the MG5 ota update into an updater script that essentially does a DD write to the associated partitions. This, in theory, should reset your modem, carrier data, and baseband back to Virgin Mobile. It could also, in theory, brick the phone, but I don't believe that'll happen. I can't say that this will work for certain, but you'll be no worse off if you try it than you are now. AFTER flashing this zip in recovery, restore a stock backup. This one from comps should do just fine, but if you already have one from comps or G60, either of those will work.

Here is the test basband fix updater zip. Flash it in recovery, restore your stock ROM, and reboot. Good luck!

So I kept conquest and just tried flashing my phone with the baseband fix. It worked but it's asking if I want to system update with (88.2 MB update)

Is it safe to install a System update on the conquest rom? Or should I just install the [VM]Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE MC1 TWRP Backup.7z

And then proceed to updating?

By the way you guys are awesome! Insanelycool and moonknightus are my favorite Android developers, thanks to you guys I was able to fix my victory that was flashing a white screen at boot with no recovery menu or download boot, you guys seriously are THE SHIT!
