Root [Virgin Mobile] [VMOBI][ROM][KERNEL] Victorious ROM + VaeVictus OC kernel (Updated 7-30-13)

I love this place. thanks again, I use that video player to stream vids from my computer to my phone

If anyone here has a Linux 64 bit setup I can walk u through the build process with some device files I came up with. Its a mix of a couple of 8960 lite build files.
My computer isn't good enough

That's my plan is to work on an aosp build. I've only worked with sense before so I'll be fairly new to it but I've got my build environment setup already

We should get the best out of this community to all put into this project. It'd be easier to seek out bugs and actually get this together

Sorry if this has been asked already (don't think it has), but is the ext partitioning required for the entire rom to function properly?

I attempted to flash this yesterday on a used phone that I just bought and rooted. It was using stock firmware, but I'm not sure what the previous owner could have done that might cause issues. It got stuck at the Samsung logo (for 30mins+) and I had to do a hard power cycle to get back to recovery.

I restored to g60madman's backup which worked fine, and I'm going to attempt to install this again on top of that. Will update this post on how it goes.. if it doesn't work, I will try one more time after formatting the SD.

edit: looks like this still isn't working, which doesn't shock me. gonna try partitioning.

Curious why music player is removed but music hub app is not? I don't think the stock music player is really bloat

And after flashing my phone was unusable getting android.phone crashes but I rebooted to recovery and wiped cachr/dalvik again and it fixed lol :-D

None have been done yet... But I'm pretty sure since its TW any S3 theme can be applied ??? But check out Xposed Framework..

I restored my phone to stock rom and backed up calendar, calendar widget, s voice and a bunch of stuff in Titanium back up. However after i flashed Victorious 0.2.1, none of the back ups shown in Titanium back up. Can someone please explain to me why? I thought Titanium back up is supposed to save your apps after flashing?

Check that titanium is using same backup location if it isnt manually set backup location to the first backup folder it made then it will see them.

nck, after flashing, remember to clear the Delvik Cache. Partition is not required unless you want to use Link2SD to conserve space on your phone.

Hi,

First of all, apologies for this long-winded post and asking too many questions :(

I am itching to install Victorious! It sounds great, but I just want to make sure I understand some things very clearly first, as I am relatively new to rooting and custom ROMs. This rooted Victory is now my primary phone, and I like it a lot - so I want to get it right the first time. BTW, I am still reading though all the posts before I do anything.

You posted:
"I have been releasing Victorious as an update package, only replacing apps from the /system/frameworks, /system/app, /system/bin, /system/xbin, /etc/init.d, and boot.img files. I have done this in order to keep the update.zip file smaller and save bandwidth and downloading times. This will cause issues once other ROMs are available, so some time in the near future I will start releasing Victorious as a full system package."

1) So if, in the future, I want to flash a new ROM, say the CM10.1 if you ever get it going, I need to first restore to the backup I will create before flashing Victorious? Then I am good to go with a new ROM? Related question, if you update Victorious again, I simply download it , clear caches, and install? No need to go back to stock ROM first in this case?

2) Regarding Link2SD, you say it must be Ext4 on the second partition. When I bought a new 32GB card and installed that app, I used these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432459 which said specifically to format it Ext2 for the stock ROM. Do I need to copy everything on the card to my computer for safety, then reformat it as Ext4 first (after removing all the Link2SD links first, of course)?

3)Also, I thought I understood this before, but now I'm kind of confused as to how it works with the extsd2internalsd also being used. I guess the 1.83 internal /data storage is a separate entity from the 1.73GB internal storage/sdcard0, which will become external sd? So ALL apps are actually in the 1.83 internal /data storage, with only their secondary files being on the 1.73 GB internal storage/sdcard0? But now, my 32 GB card will be sdcard0, while the 1.73 will become extSdCard? And apps linked to SD will still go to the partition on the 32 GB card, while secondary files will go onto the main storage part of this large card? The new, smaller 1.73 GB extSdCard will be empty, secondary storage to use as I see fit? At any rate, my current partition is 1 GB, of which I am presently using 321 MB. How large a partition do you suggest?

4)Finally, what are the issues with the stock calendar and video player? Anything major, and if so, are fixes forthcoming?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Answer to number 2, yes, move everything from your SD card to your PC. I put everything in a folder called SD. Then format the SD card and create the first (larger) partition and then the smaller one for Link2SD links. I made mine 2.5 Gb which is probably more than I need. Just follow the instructions in the XDA post and you should be fine. Remember to place the backed up files back on your SD card into the larger partition before placing back into your phone. ALWAYS turn your phone OFF before removing or inserting your SD card.

Partial answer to number 4 is I always use MX Player as my video player and that works just fine. You can try that unless you really like the stock video player. I don't use the calender so sorry I cannot help you with that.

There is a fix for video player posted in this thread. I use the calendar pictured below and it syncs with Google fine .

Thanks buzzcon. I would still like clarification on 1 and 3 from someone, but number 2 was my definitely my biggest concern.

As for the video player, I don't use it a lot and it works fine for my purposes, plus it's only 3.21 MB according to Titanium Backup - less than half the size of MX. Nevertheless, I'm not married to it and not necessarily opposed to trying something like MX. Does the free version work fine for most things, and how many of those codecs am I likely to need for casual use with mp4s, etc.?

As to the calendar though, I use it a lot and really like the Samsung version over pure Google. It has a great interface, so i'd like to find out if it is still usable from Jerry or anyone else who knows.

Thanks again!

Teach Me,

Yep, that's the same calendar. So it still works fine with Victorious? The thread mentions "Some issues with stock calendar features".

I found the link to the video player fix and see it has full instructions on how to do it. Thanks :)

Yeah calendar works fine for me I had backed it up from my s2 if u have issues holla ill post my calendar apk

I have been using the free version for about 2 years. It plays videos shot with my phone just fine and it plays mp4 videos with no problem. I converted season one of The Walking Dead and have that on my SD card for times when I am in an area where I don't have data and can't do much else with my phone. I also believe there are more options with MX Video verses the stock video player.

The free version is ad supported (no surprise there).

As soon as i get around to doing all this, I will check it out and let you know if i have problems. I haven't done anything yet though. So you're saying I can use ES Explorer or Titanium Backup to make a backup of the calendar apk, then if I do have issues, I can just install it over the existing one? Or do I replace the apk in the system apps folder? I'm guessing it's the SecCalendar_NAmerica.apk in system/app?
