Root visual voicemail

i've spent the better part of the past hour searching here and there with no luck... is there a hack, mod, etc... out there for visual voicemail... we have wifi tether... the sprint hot spot hack.. i've tried a few vvm zip files that i've found but have had no luck... is it possible???

Probably a dumb questions, is VVM a free feature? I thought I read somewhere that it was a one-month free kind of thing...?

i use this sprint-vvm-5.1.0.48.zip with cm7 with no problems. just use root explorer to install it.

so, it may be ROM dependent? i have that zip file and flashed it via recovery, and it did nothing. install via root explorer, not sure how to do... any further explanation would be great... i'm familiar with RE, ie.. installing bootanimations, etc.. but zip files i'm not sure...

it is, but, just like wifi tether and sprint hotspot, there are ways... at least, that is my impression...

yeah that file is not flashable. you have to use either root explorer or es file manager and maybe astro file manager. load the app and locate the file on your sd card. select it and install it. not sure if it is rom specific though. what rom are you on that does not have it? i think most sense roms have it.

i'm on KingsROM UNleashed R5, so, just unzip the file on the root of my sd and find and install... giving it a try...

EDIT- no go, try again tomorrow...

Ahh, for some reason I took it as more of a service would be provided by sprint, while I always look at the hotspot as a phone function.

So the VVM must be just using audio recognition and listening to the voicemail messages? Anyone know how it works?

Did u get it installed?

no, i unzipped and have found the apk but there are 2 folders in the zip, META-INF that has under it, com/google/android/ which has an update-script in it.... and
SYSTEM that has under it, app/ which has the apk...
i placed the apk on root of sd and used ES file explorer to install and install failed... not sure what to do at this point... i don't know if the update-script is needed, where to put it....
"glad i made a nandroid"
;)

the update script was so you could flash it in recovery...it would have pushed it to system/app. Apparently you cant sideload vvm to data/app either so use ES, grant root rw permission in the settings and paste the apk into system/app change its permissions to rw-r-r and reboot.

Edit: Just read the above...odd should have been flashable with the update script in there...no matter what i said above still stands..

well, done did all that, using root explorer... moved to system/app... set permissions to rw-r-r.... rebooted and nothing, same old voicemail...
guess it just wasn't meant to be....:(

of course thats the same visual voice mail...im not following what you are trying to do then? is that just not the apk you need?

is your trial out?

you cant go to settings and start a new free trial?

VVM requires a subscription but you get free 30 day trials. Ive had about 5 of them lol. Seems everytime i reinstall it gives me a new trial. Try wiping data in titanium...

Edit: you may want to try the apk out of gregs post, wipe data in titanium then install vvm and see if it gives you a new trial...there is no other vvm app out there unless you had like google voice or something...

yes, that's the apk but it just isn't installing for me, i'm beginning to think that it's the ROM... i'll keep the apk on the back burner and try again when i flash a new ROM... appreciate the assistance...
:)

You said after you installed it you still had the same voice mail...? I'm only aware of one vvm...oh well maybe someone else can help.

I started another thread, but I suppose I can post here. I install this APK just fine, but the app always says "voicemail couldn't be downloaded" and provides me with a link to call my voicemail to obtain it manually. I was just going to resort to using google voice for this, but as luck would have it that isn't working right for me either.

Are you on an aosp or sense rom?

Did you try composing a message to yourself to provision it?

cm7, and yes
There is an activate@vmm.sprint.com message in the undelivered messages bin that I don't know what to do with.

It also sees I have two messages waiting ('pending 2 voice messages")

EDIT: Interestingly this is also saying that I don't have root privileges in TB... not sure how that is even possible...

well click problems in tb and let it download and install busybox, that should fix that one...

have you restored voicemail data from a sense rom yet from tb? if not, do that...

A reboot fixed the titanium backup issue. Still not working with restoring backup data though.
