Root Voicemail App running CM7?

Hey guys, so now that I've had a day to mess around I'm wondering if there is a Voicemail app that anyone suggests for CM7? Getting this stupid text everytime someone leaves a message is a bit annoying.

I read somewhere else that setting up conditional call-forwarding using Google Voice is one option, but is that my only option? If I setup conditional call-forwarding, does that mean my phone will ring from my regular number and then my google number before it goes to VM? That's a bit of an annoyance.

Also, anyone have recommendations as to different Mail and Messaging apps I can use? I really liked the Stock Mail app (I have a Gmail & Exchange email) and enjoyed the MikG messaging app (looked a bit like the iPhone version which I saw from afar because if I touch an iPhone my hand begins to burn).

you can use sprint voice mail just get the Gapps with it burned in or if you have a rom that has it just extract the apk out. I use Hotmail for my hotmail and gmail for my google so not much help there

Hmm ok, so I flashed one GAPPS file (it got the Market working, but did not have the Sprint VoiceMail app), and then reflashed a newer GAPPS file that had Video Chat in Google Talk working (but also did not have Sprint Voicemail). Is there another GAPPS file that I need to flash?

in the rom/kernel sticky there is the gapps with vvm included.

i do not see why you would. just wipe dalvik cache and cache and you should have vvm installed.

And when I tried to install after wiping cache/dalvic cache 3 times, and reboot, and it just hangs on the htc EVO (tm) 4G screen, what should I do? Pull the battery and kick myself for not running a nandroid before trying this? :(

maybe start over and do a full wipe and reflash everything.

and remember nandroids are your friend.

Ok a fix for the voicemail prob (sprint sending text from 9016) you use a different SMS provider, like SMS pro or Chomp or GO SMS and block the number, then no more text messages for voicemail.

Ok for the other problem, make sure you also do a factory reset before trying to load CM7.1. I would wipe, then do a factory reset, then wipe again. The CM site makes it pretty clear to do a factory reset when going to this ROM.

Does the new GAPPS file with the VVM work on CM7.1? I tried reflashing it and it still won't work. It's now on a black screen with a flashing green LED (I had something similar happen to me when I was using a2sd).

i never had any issues when i was on cm7.1 and this gapps file. try and re-download the gapps file. it could be a bad download.

Same one I used to. I did have a problem to start so I wiped, factory reset, wiped again and did a clean load and evrything worked like a charm.

Alright I redownloaded and re-flashed and its up and running and I have Voicemail now, thank you!

I don't like how the setup wizard froze halfway through the reboot process, but whatever, phone is working. Now to reinstall everything again :)

Woa, another question about reflashing. I know I don't need to repartition, but do I need to go about doing the "a2sd reinstall"/"a2sd cachesd" stuff again?

Thanks everyone!!

argedion, would you be willing give more details where this would be found that it can be extracted? I too am not happy to discover that my new CM7 ROM does not handle my voice mail as I'm accustomed to! Thank you..

This is the latest Gapps package listed in the Rom and Kernel page.

gapps-modified-vvm-20110828.zip

I'm not sure if it has the Sprint VVM included or not.
There used to be one listed that had it baked in but it's not listed anymore for some reason.:(

I need to check the GAPPS file I have backed up to my computer which is installed on my phone. What are the chances?!! Thanks for the info NaterTots :)
