Help [VZW]Data/Radio Issues!!

Tsitalon

Newbie
OK Android nerds, get your debug hats on. I have 2 problems.

I am on Verizon Nexus 4.0.4 stock, unrooted.
1. I never used 4g before the 4.0.4 update, so now that I have the update I keep my LTE data service on (since it handles it ok and preserves battery life). But now that I leave LTE on it seems to turn off all of my radios randomly (cell, 4g, 3g), it does however leave wifi on... So in other words is anyone familiar or has anyone had this issue before? I dont like it when I suddenly cant make phone calls because my radios wont connect. The data thing doesnt bother me much. Also this never happens on 3g only.

2. My "Android OS" consumes ALOT of data.. Is this normal?

Apparently I use a lot of data...

Edit: OMFG

99.99% of data on Android OS is "background"

It's a known issue. Everyone's radios behave differently. The problem you describe is a combo of dropping data connections and poor hand offs between various radios.

Also would you mind adding [VZW] to the title of your thread please :) If you hit edit on your first post then click "go advanced" you can change the title. thanks :)

How often does this happen? What you're describing sounds like the hardware bug found in some Nexuses. If it's happening more than once a day or week, then it could be bad hardware.

Yea this happens a couple times a day. Super annoying.

I think you have bad hardware I'm afraid to say :(

Does that google bug report sound like what happens to you? ALL the radios (including 1x which means voice/sms don't work) crash and come back a minute or so later right?

What else do you stream besides Pandora? It just doesn't seem logical to me that your background services should use almost 4GB!

Ok, so I may have found the culprit, from another thread. It is the Google Back-up service. Try disabling it by going into settings, back-up & reset, and disabling back up my data.

yup that is exactly what happens!

I stream iHeartRadio, Pandora, Play Music (or whatever) and i played with 8tracks for a day or two. All of which are accounted for on the data usage with believable #'s

In fact everything seems normal but that number. Which is very wrong...

Also want to say I am a CS major so its not like I am completely mindless on this subject. I just don't know what is going on with this situation... Seems very wrong.

Since June 1, Android OS has used a grand total of 9MB of data.

Its almost certainly a syncing issue. Try disabling Facebook, Photos, and Google+. There is a high probability that it is one of those. All 3 have been reported as being big drains due to their syncing.

Also, as mentioned above, I have seen Google Backup get hung up on a sync. I had one get stuck syncing for 11+ hours. Drained the hell outta my battery. If those 3 don't appear to be the cause try disabling google backup.

Just an FYI that enormous data usage appears to be from the "Sync my Data" setting. I have turned it off and only used 7MB in 3 days. That still seems like a lot to me.. but we will see...

Also I get an error connecting to my camera on my phone
When my 4g radio is on it cuts out
My OS downloads massive amounts of data.. Time for a new device..
