(VZW) Nexus 4.0.X Update Discussion

It's been known for a while that the new update was going to display more bars at the same dbm level than the previous software build so that is probably what is making some people say the signal is drastically better.

I also remember some of the pre-release radios that they tested made for vastly improved dBm levels. I'm hoping that they are trying something with those instead of just placebo bars, but Verizon is Verizon.

Everyone that is about to go nuts wanting this just try and be patient. I assure you there are people working that this very minute. It will be available soon if i had to guess. Just be glad that we're seeing some type of activity no matter who it is from.

As a quick reminder, posting about drugs is against the rules:

Do not post the following, or links to (including but not limited to): Porn, Drugs, Hate, Terrorism or anything else you imagine should be listed here. People can do what they want elsewhere, but we're not looking to provide direction to these things.

Thank you for your cooperation!

A lot of speculation in the DL comments that people are getting trolled and sending in screenshots from CM9.

Waiting to get more confirmation from XDA and other sources.

How in the world can Google just bypass Verizon and send out an OTA update, and Verizon know nothing about it?

I could totally believe it......even VZW's own people are usually in the dark!

AFAIK this isn't possible because of the CDMA radios and binaries that need to be put into the update for the Verizon Nexus.

For various technical reasons, recent CDMA Android devices implement core telephony functionality in .apk files provided in binary form by the carriers. To function correctly, these .apk files must be signed by the so-called 'platform' key. However, when an individual creates a custom build from the AOSP source code, they don't use the same signing key as these CDMA flies were signed with.

The result is that these files don't work properly, and pure AOSP builds running on these devices can't place calls, access mobile data, and so on. Because we aim to make sure that we are as clear as possible about the degree of support that devices have, we updated the docs over at source.android.com to reflect this reality.

BTW you can follow this XDA thread for more info as well: Possible VZW 4.0.4 update - xda-developers

I wonder how that would explain the photo of an in store unit over at DL receiving the update....i mean i know anything can be faked.

Can anyone recommend a good logcat program? There are several on the Marke... errr... Play Store called "logcat" but I didn't know if one was preferrable to the other. I wanted to capture the log for folks if get the update before others do.

Anyone else notice the date for the Kernel? Friday the 13th?

Welp I'm getting an Asurion replacement today (crossing fingers that it is as flawless as my first handset) because I'm an idiot and lost mine, so I'll keep it stock and see if I can sneak this test update onto it.
