(VZW) Nexus 4.0.X Update Discussion

also just based on what i've read which looks true when i look at that system dump the radio files aren't included in the sys dump. Some of you may have already known this but i didn't. Just relaying that.

Is that good or bad? Sorry for the n00b question, but a lot of the under-the-hood stuff about Android is still lost on me.

People are already working on it now should be something fun to play with tonight

i see a lot of bricks coming if people start trying to tinker with the .zip and are a noob.

I recommend everyone waiting until a safer established method comes out which should be by tonight. That's just me, you guys can do what you want. I just don't want to see anyone getting in a hurry trying to mess with that .zip and semi bricking their device. :)

And just to be clear, with my 4.0.4 leaked stock rom, I shouldn't be trying to update my phone with this correct?

also i know a lot of people are just wanting the radios out of this. But the bigger picture is the entire update. There are a lot of bugs fixed from 4.0.2 to 4.0.4.

Yeah but if it's just AOSP 4.0.4 + new radios + VZW bloat apps, then people are going to be pissed here...since the mid-muting call is still there in AOSP 4.0.4....

the radio.img.p is the lte radio, but it seems it's not an actual image but rather a patch I'm assuming. I was hoping it would be a fastboot flash, but that patch file is a nuisance.

Scanning through, I see an update for nfc, a camera focus sound effect, a "dock" image (maybe that has something to do with them releasing some accessories after the patch like has been rumoured), lots of patches for standard apps, patches for bluetooth.

So if I'm running stock, can I somehow install this and it act just like if it came OTA???

See this thread: http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/541586-verizon-imm76k-download-4-0-4-a.html

The DL link tells you how to apply this update if you are running 4.0.2 stock, but are rooted.

FA02 radio: -109 dBm / 31 asu
FA04 radio: -111 dBm / 29 asu

haha...typical...all that wait for nothing.

Could be beneficial for others though. I'd give it a chance as well. Might be no different in your exact location at the moment, but who knows when you go to "that place" where you had a weak signal before but now shows stronger :)

This is my weak place :) This and at home (which I'll check in a bit). Same issue with the signal not penetrating buildings well. I wasn't optimistic the firmware would fix it, but still sort of a little bummed.

I understand. A lot of folks are reporting very good results so far.

And I just noticed something interesting. I have never seen lower than -120 on previous radios and just saw -122 and walking from my office to the bathroom where normally I'd drop to 3G (or no signal, it held onto LTE at -122 dBm w/1 bar). Interesting...

Hey all,

So, If I am stock everything - no mods, is THIS (post #1) the best method to install this recently unveiled, official 4.0.4 release?

It seems like it works for non-rooted, non-unlocked phone and returns everything to stock after...

If it is correct, this should help a lot of other 100% STOCKED people.

Thanks,

Matt!
