VZW not replacing DIncs...

Ok, so if people are not supposed to post problems in this forum then what is it for? If someone actually has a problem, a bunch of other people saying their's doesn't have it doesn't help them. The OP wasn't ranting about the problems with the phone, he was ranting about how his good faith call for help, from the company he bought it from, was met by said company. For those that have no issues, great. For those that do have issues with their device, THAT IS WHAT THESE FORUM'S ARE FOR.

The basic reasons for a forum are as follows:
1. Bringing issues with the device to the attention of the forum's members.
2. Bringing tips or solutions to problems to the attention of the forum's members.
3. Bringing news or leaks to the forum's members.
4. Discussing likes/dislikes of the device, and/or reviews of apps for the device, good or bad.

If all we are gonna do is just sit around and talk about how wonderful our phones are, that's get old real quick. No device overall is perfect, and not every individual device is perfect. Each device that is manufactured is not going to be made exactly as the one before or after it, that's a fact of life. You cannot create two things that are exactly the same. They can get them amazingly close, but there will always be differences. For example, my brother used to live in Kansas City and they had an automobile plant down there. He was doing paintless dent removal, and when they'd get hail they'd go there and push dents. He was telling me on the same model of car there could be as much as 6-7 inches of difference in length from one to the next.

I believe that the audio dropout could be software and/or hardware. And even if it is hardware, it's posible it can be solved with adjusting the settings in software.

In closing, when a forum member is courteous and asking for help in good faith, do your best to help them. If you cannot help, either offer condolences or move on. It's really not that difficult.

P.S. Mine did have this issue. I went to the EVRC B and that solved the problem. I had to switch some of the settings back to make it play well with the network extender I got recently, & so far have not had any issues. I believe it is a combination of lower signal & a noise gate not set properly, but that's just my .02.

The call quality is a known, widespread issue. They have a potential solution in the pipeline, and replacing your phone with another DrInc is not a reliable solution (good chance the new one would have similar issues). Why on earth would verizon throw you another $400 phone that won't fix your problem?
How would that possibly create value for the owners/shareholders?

EDIT: I feel for you, if you really need this fixed you can try and get a different phone. Or you can wait till the update comes, and hopefully fixes it. If you still have issues you can get it switched then.

I remember reading about adjusting the noise gate(?) could alleviate the problem. Is that the potential solution?

So they won't replace it if you have a call quality issue, but they will replace it for other defects I assume?

I was referring to the ota in general (both htc and vzw have reported developing a fix as part of an ota, and users have reported improvement from done combination off thee leaked software). I'm sure there are some things the user can change to solve, or at least improve, the issue. But I don't know specifically what would help.

Ok. Thx.

Yes.
I got my DInc on 7/27. my camera lens was loose, yesterday I received my Brand new replacement, not a refurb, brand new.

People...sometimes when you can't hear the other person, it's the other person (read: not you). I've had nothing but perfect call quality on my phone. It's either them, defective phone, or antennas in your area.

Thanks to those who have offered constructive commentary. The point of my post was more to find out if this is a common response from VZW or if this was an off the ranch rep.

Yes, I am admittedly picky about my phone call quality - but that is because I work in sales, and I use in the neighborhood of 6,000 minutes a month. It gets old really quick when I'm asking people to repeat numbers over and over because I'm missing digits - in fact it is something I just can't accept with a phone. I live in downtown Houston, and work in various locations in downtown Houston, the problem therefore doesn't seem to be network related. VZW has a very good reputation for network quality in the 4th largest city in the nation. You could be right, however, since this is the only phone I've ever had on VZW (just switched from AT&T - you can't tell me that THEIR call quality is supposed to be better... can you?).

The point of my post was not to attack anyone with a perfectly working phone, I'm happy for you, and it does give me hope that I may not have to switch to that tablet computer they call a phone (what is it... Droid X?). But please, if you have a perfectly working phone, and feel that this is a frivolous thread, then simply move on. I would rather keep the thread's space for commentary that might help me or others.

I just got off the phone with VZW - I was calling to see if they could give me anything concrete on when I could see an improvement in call quality.. if that little evrc-b programming thing is safe, etc.

Here is what I was told, in parts, from a tier 2 tech.

1. No idea when the update should happen. They have no guidance on this.

2.VZW has seen no guidance that this update is going to address the call quality issue, and that I shouldn't expect that this update will do anything to help in that area.

3. After I asked for a replacement DInc, the rep checked (took about 2 minutes) and let me know that VZW will no longer replace DIncs for this problem because it won't fix the problem.

4. After my big WTF?!!? and my "I need a phone that works as a phone," he indicated that he is supposed to take my information and call me Monday or Tuesday with VZWs solution to my problem.

5. The programming change to the CDMA settings is a "third party solution not supported by VZW" but "you can make the change at your own risk" and he further said that "if it were a solid solution, VZW would have that as an option for the many calls" they are getting on the subject.

I honestly am a little stunned by this response from them, and may call in again to try to get someone else to verify this. I Have never been told before that there simply isn't a fix, and that they would call me back in a few days to let me know what the fix would be.

Anyone else having a similar response? Was this rep on target?

Thats a bunch of BS, I just went to the Verzion Store, my DINC is freezing and when I make a phone call I am getting a loud ringing noise on the line and anyone I call cannot hear me. Well the V tech gave me the 1 866-406-5154 to call which I did and I am getting my replacement DINC on Monday or Tuesday via Fedex.

please do not take offense to this, but have you read a lot about this issue? Call quality and dropping IS AN issue they are having with SOME Incredibles. It is not about other people, it is about a problem with the phone. The Verizon person I spoke to this morning was on a landline and even he recognized the problem.

Why is it people with functioning phones have to act like there can't be a problem with SOME of the others?

The title of this thread is hardly misleading. They are not swapping out Incredibles for this issue at this time.

Sorry, but brianem is right on that SOME of the observed problems could be on the other end of the line. People should consider that before assuming that the problem is with their incredible (of course many DrInc's have had issues).

I'm over this.

I'm out folks - sorry that my post was so offensive to so many people. I'll refrain from posting on these forums in the future. Peace out!

If you had titled your post "Verizon won't replace my incredible due to call quality issues" then it would be fine. Just posting "Verizon not replacing any incredibles ever!!!!" isn't accurate. We've had enough of "incredible is officially at end of life" and other terribly misquoted news about our device that it just hurts everyone to be so sensationalist.

No offense, but this is a problem with MOST calls made on the phones in question. It is a problem on most calls, which leaves the possibility of thinking you have the problem when you don't, near impossible. Why do people who don;'t have this issue need to suggest that people who do don't actually have a problem.

As for the title, the "....." means there is more to the initial statement. It means to continues reading for the rest. I think it was not misleading at all.

I am never posting again................ until I get back to my computer!

hey guys, just an fyi: I had call quality issues, my earpiece would sound like shit sometimes, even in good areas, I upgraded to 2.2 the other day with the leak on this site and so far the quality has been great

It is a problem on most calls, which leaves the possibility of thinking you have the problem when you don't, near impossible. Why do people who don;'t have this issue need to suggest that people who do don't actually have a problem.

Here is why we suggest that...

Lets say Bob has a droid incredible, and doesn't have call quality issues. But he's read on this forum about people having issues. He later calls his brother Fred on Fred's iPhone. ATT being what it is, the call keeps cutting in an out. Bob might assume HE has the problem. If most of the people Bob calls are on cell phones, it's possible if he's LOOKING for call issues he'll find them just from issues with other people's cell phones.

Some people who assume they have a problem might not actually have one. If you're sure you really have a problem (you have issues most of the time, and while calling landlines) then you have a problem.

right, but when bob says to Fred, call me from your landline because your phone sucks and still the phone call sounds like shit, then it's bob's incredible.

I was on the phone with my wife (iphone user), I had to say "what" a lot because most of her words were being cut off in the beginning, i told her to call me from the house and it still sounded the same, didn't I feel like an ass to say her phone sucked, LOL

OK that was overreaction on my part. My apologies. I'm just sick of getting flamed.

I use the phone a lot... 80-100 calls a day (cold calling potential clients, etc.) so I have a pretty good idea that it is my phone, not everyone else's. I don't think many people who are savvy enough to be on the android forums would also be stupid enough to have one bad call to another cell phone and then decide without further testing that their DInc sucks. I'm not attacking your phone, the HTC brand, VZW, your children, etc. I just wanted to know if this information that this particular rep gave me checked out.

As for the title, it was intended more as a question. Your interpretation of it (whoever it was) as all caps, no more ever... well, that's your read of it. Sorry you don't understand my version of English. I went ahead and changed the title to something you may find more palatable, even though that seems to only change it on the OP, not the title in the forum.

I have a replacement Dinc arriving next week because of a bad camera and random reboots. Just got off the phone with vzw not to long ago for it. Will be my 3rd one ;/

That's CRAP!!! I swear VZW is SO DUMB sometimes... I'm on DInc #3 and I've had no issues with call quality but know people that have had the issue. It's a big problem and they should replace your device. I'm getting so tired of huge corporations turning a blind eye to wide spread issues.

I had what I thought was a sound quality issue while on calls when I first bought my Dinc in April.

Turns out that I had a habit of supporting the bottom of the phone with my pinky finger. As soon as I stopped doing that, my call quality has been awesome to this day.

May not be your issue,........Just saying & hoping. "crossing fingers"

I have had only one crappy, chopped up call ever with my DINC, that was the one time I called 611 to talk to Customer Service. :D Now I have had a few calls that didn't sound sweet and clear with a little static but I am pretty sure that was due to the area I was in and all the electrical lines and stuff around causing the static. I will add to that I came from the iPhone 3G and the iPhone had better call sound quality. The iPhone sounded like Digital or XM radio where the DINC sounds like regular FM. :D Very clear but could sound "sweeter".
