Want to update Swype?? Read here!

I've seen this around, but never did it. Finally decided to today. It went smoothly and works great.

Happy I finally did it.

I think it works better.

How much better? I am pretty damn happy with the swype I already have.

Tough to say. I like the darker theme back and it seems more accurate. Also the double trap to correct is a big leap over trap then hit swype button.

I'm hoping that they add a way to not have it automatically add typed words the dictionary.

only bad thing about jumping on this beta is that it is going to expire at some point.

Well no way they'll leave everyone hanging, so worst case they'll release a final version as a pay app.

Think of the uproar if they just yanked it from everyone.

At that point, if you don't want to pay, restore your rom swype.

If you're a registered beta user... won't they update it before it expires??

Besides, rename the files to .bak so you can easily go back to the old version at any time...

I find this version so much more accurate. I'm able to actually swype fast now rather than carefully going to each key... the keys are also bigger!

No. They don't offer it as a paid app either. You get to use it while they run the beta testing, then the app expires untill they open it up again.

As I said before, no way they will leave thousands of beta testers without swype. I'm not worried about that.

And I thought the keys were a bit larger.

any idea how to get my stock swype back (using liberty). Followed the instructions, got the beta, keeps force closing, and cant re-install the stock swype my X came with...:(

Did you also uninstall it? I had the same problem until I "officially" uninstalled it using Titanium Backup, then it would install and work.

Did you rename or move the files as suggested, or did you delete them? If you did, I can PM you the original files... let me know.

Well before swype was ever snatched up by google and it was still only in beta, on my og droid the expiration date came and went and my swype never 'expired'.. I don't know if that will still be the same now though..

I deleted it with liberty tool box, which made a back up apk of swype (that wont install either) - I would appreciate you sending the original files, thank you :)

**UPDATE**
Amazing what happens when you READ the instructions, lol - sorry for the noobness, and thank you for the offer to assist, this community is always the best :)

I'm z4 rooted.

Renamed stock Swype .apk to .apb with Root Explorer.

Beta installed fine but FC's at licensing.

Gave up but putting .apb back to .apk restored original.

No harm, no foul.

It installed fine for me on my rooted stock ROM X after renaming the existing Swype files. The new Swype seems faster and more responsive than the old one. I haven't decided if it's more accurate yet, but I'm thinking it probably is.

Snatched up by google? Care to elaborate on what you mean?

Is there a quick way to switch from swype to the stock keyboard? I really like swype, but when I need to type a name, password, or soemthing along those lines its just messes me up. Its quick to switch from stock to swype, but how are you guys using it to type in non-standard words?

Long press in input box to change keyboard. I usually just type stuff like that out in swype.
You might want to watch the tutorial videos on they site.
