is there, and if so, what is the differences between themes and skins... i've flashed themes before on various roms and recently installed skins for MikG v2.56... they both seem to do the "same thing", if you know what i mean... one difference i guess i can see is that themes may have mods that change battery, 3g, wifi icons in the status bar... out side of that, i dunno... just thought i'd ask... skins seem so much easier, just install and done, switch back and forth... thanks for reading, now back to your regularly scheduled thread...

I noticed this also and was wondering the same thing.

From my understanding (And I could be totally wrong here) Highly doubtful though *l*

Themes are graphical system modifiers. They can change the way the battery looks the icons for notifications. The Icons in App drawer, but further more they also change the fonts.

Skins are a graphical overlay. Which means you cover up a object (such as notification bar) with a graphic that changes the look only but not the function of the object. Skins usually are "Skin Deep" Most have basic graphic changes that allow you to view the same exact screen purple instead of the default green. But has no change to the fonts or System icons.

They're primarily the same thing, just a theme is all out. A skin is just that, skin deep.

Now you can have a skin thats just about a full theme, and you can have a theme thats just about the same amount as a skin.

Skins are easier because they make the "work" of changing the framework and xml files accessable on the fly. Themes are hardwired and need to be flashed in recovery.

It may shed light on the subject, or dig the hole deeper. :D

Thanks for this.

Also, I think it'd be totally acceptable if every time granite posted, a theme song played for him! ;) :D

Here is a way to look at it.......

Skin is like you changing your cloths, it changes your immediate apperance but can easily be changed to something else. Your hair style, hair color, skin tone, diet is all still the same. Like a paint job.

Theme is like you changed you hair style, color, skin tone, diet, started working out as well as changed your cloths. Its a deeper more noticible change like battery style, app drawer may be a 5x5 transparent, the keyboards are different. Its a deeper change than just a simple wallpaper. You ever watch American Chopper?? They do theme bikes, not just paint jobs.
