Root Wanting to wipe and update..

Hey everyone, i want to apologize if something like this has already been answered. I've been looking for a while and i'm not finding a straight answer for what i'm wanting to do.

I have a rooted Evo 4g running the froyo 2.2 update. I rooted with unrevoked last November and i'm wanting to update. aside from that, i want to start my phone fresh. Its been acting up a lot lately and i want to wipe the phone (i assumed this would be like formatting a pc and starting over) after some research i found that doing the factory reset or even the hard reset doesn't remove the root.

my plan was to just format, start fresh, and reroot with an updated rom.

so should i unroot, factory reset and then reroot?

should i just factory reset and then flash with and updated rom?


basically i want EVERYTHING gone from my phone even the SDCard wiped and to start completely clean. Like i said, my phone is acting really weird and this needs to be done. Everything is backed up and ready to go. I just don't want to brick or screw anything up on the phone.

No reason to unroot. What software and radio version are you on?

You should just wipe everything and flash a new rom.

Radio: 2.15.00.07.28
PRI: 1.71_003
Software: 3.26.651.6

Assuming I should wipe the SDCard and then wipe the phone?

You can wipe your sd card whenever you want just have it backed up if you want pics and music and stuff back.

Don't wipe the phone obviously until you are ready to flash a new rom. Sorry thought ocean would answer I'm on the phone. I'll get to ya in a bit. You'll need everything updated. Easiest way is to flash sprint lovers that I believe ocean already linked. It's on the rom and kernel link in my sig too. Wipe sd, partition if ya want, put stuff back you want, dl sprint lovers, name correctly, flash in hboot.
 
your hboot is old, but i would not worry about that one. your radio is current. but your pri and software are older. i would go ahead and flash the sprint lovers rom. this should get everything up to date all at once.
1. download the PC36IMG file here:MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
2.move the file over to the root of your sd card
3.power off then press and hold power+vol down
4.hboot should then scan for it.
5.it will ask you to update press vol up for yes
6.then reboot and you should be updated.

however i would not worry about your sd card. you can just clean it up. but if you want you can re-format it. you can do it at anytime though. it should not mess anything up.

Radio is old too...look again. Sprint lovers will take care of that anyhow
 
yep old radios. sorry i just got off working and winding down as we speak with some beer. my bad thanx for looking out. and yeah sprint lovers should cure that problem.
 
i was thinking of doing the same thing this evening. i rooted a long time ago, and know that there is an update.... =] anyone have a different link than www.megaupload.com/?d=7KD2V3EV to download? i'm maxed. ;D
