Root [Warning] [Rooted only] Do Not Factory Reset!!!

JerryScript

Android Expert
Note- This only applies to those who have a custom recovery installed.

90% of the posts I've read about bricked phones are from people who used the factory reset under the settings tabs.

DO NOT EVER RESET YOUR OPTIMUS V TO FACTORY SPECS WITH THE SETTINGS MENU!!!!

If you do, you WILL brick your phone, and it most likely will not be recoverable!

(mods- please sticky this, or a simliar warning, I believe it is important)

People wont read it they usually get linked to a thread that has the info they want to root and rom their phone and they do not bother reading anywhere else.
It is just pure laziness and the inability to read is why some people brick their phones.

Seeing your post made me post this thread.

Sorry to hear about your trouble, I only wish each Optimus V rom dev would include this warning in their OPs!

Why should the Dev do all the extra instructions?
If you do not bother to learn what you are doing why should the dev care?
Rooting and flashing custom roms on your phone can be risky the more you "READ" and Learn you reduce the risk it is common knowledge that you do not do a factory reset from within the OS on custom roms.

Not always do not try and bill doing as perfect because it is far from it. especial'y becoming a beta tester for bugged Roms.

I think rooting a phone is just ridiculous and a pain in the ass.

Jerryscript,

posted in the wrong section btw. This is the stock phone forums.

Then why was it posted in general section, beyond popular belief not everyone Roots their phone, and installs Roms

You are asking us to speculate about what was happening in the mind of the original poster. Obviously we can't do that.

The blanket statement made in the original post is incorrect. Other posters are correct to de-bunk the statement. People running stock roms can factory data reset their phone any time they want.

The popular belief you mention is in this case based on fact. Most people do not modify or replace their phone's software stack. Although there is an active and knowledgeable community of Android users who like to modify their phone, they are a small minority of the 100 million+ who own an Android powered device.

This does not apply to people running a stock phone there champ.

first of all, don't talk down to me I don't run stock. Secondly this was posted in the wrong section without any mention in the op that it was about custom roms. Way to make yourself look like a douche though.

My apologies for posting in the wrong forum, I did mean to post in the Rooting subforum. I saw a post in the main forum about yet another bricked phone due to using the factory reset, and hit the new thread button. My fault.

It's all good, I was just annoyed with that other guy.

JerryScript, since this thread hasn't been moved yet to the Rooted sub-forum (any mod reading this?), please edit your original post to correct your misleading statement (when applied to non-rooted phones.) It's just way too confusing to new users (who are much more likely to hang out here than in the Rooted forum). Thanks! :)

I was able to get out of the recovery menue by flashing Romtools recovery thing (****change recovery.img to vrecovery.img in the folder****)
I was able to fully return my phone to stock and it works perfectly!

So.... how do you go back to factory ROM after you root if you decide you wanna go back? Is there a guide somewhere? (I haven't rooted yet, I just wanna make sure that if I DO ROOT I can go back)

Thanks

So um, before I ever saw anything about this I did a hard reset on my optimus s because I couldn't get any recovery to work on it. It worked until I added a new Rom and then It like disappeared. I tried a ton of them. So now that my phone only flashes LG, and I have seen on numerous sites threads like this I definately know better.... Is there any way to fix it I had everything backed up with titanium? Please help.... ):
