Root [Warning] [Rooted only] Do Not Factory Reset!!!

So.... how do you go back to factory ROM after you root if you decide you wanna go back? Is there a guide somewhere? (I haven't rooted yet, I just wanna make sure that if I DO ROOT I can go back)

Thanks

Yes, you can go back to stock.

Once you have rooted your phone, you can then install a custom recovery.

Once this recovery is installed, you can make a nandroid backup which is a complete backup of your phone, it's one of the options in the recovery menu. You can use this backup to return to stock if you want.

So um, before I ever saw anything about this I did a hard reset on my optimus s because I couldn't get any recovery to work on it. It worked until I added a new Rom and then It like disappeared. I tried a ton of them. So now that my phone only flashes LG, and I have seen on numerous sites threads like this I definately know better.... Is there any way to fix it I had everything backed up with titanium? Please help.... ):

Which recovery are you using (the filename please, not the link)

Does your computer recognize your phone when you hook it up?
Have you download the Android SDK and Java SDK and tried using ADB to connect to your phone?
There are several methods to fix your phone, just need some more details to point you in the right direction.

Well during root I was using "recovery-thunderc-s-RA-v1.2-GNM.img" and it was working great. Then I added thundeRom and still it was all great. Then I decided to try a cyanogen Rom and it said to use clockwork mode recovery and someone told me to use Rom manager. So I tried that and then came to find it doesn't support my phone. After that i was not able to flash into any recovery I couldn't reboot into recovery my phone just rebooted. Then I recalled that I had to do a hard reset on my phone to get the thunderc recovery and rom on there so I just assumed that It would work again.

I finally got my phone to go into emergency mode. But that is all it will do besides flash LG. No, my computer can't find my phone... well adb can't I keep getting this little error at the bottom of my screen saying that my LGE mobile composite high speed usb is plugged into a non high speed port and will function at lower speeds. Usually this error would go away when I plugged it in somewhere else, but not now so yes my computer sort of recognizes it. My android sdk had a virus hiding in there after I rooted I deleted the files yes I have it all set up and configured now, but it has never actually been used or connected to my device yet. (not sure if that makes a difference or not.)
I tried kdz and that did not work either its error says update is no longer available due to ...something...software failure. Again thank you so much for taking the time to help me. I am really growing quite frustrated with it all.

Where did you download the sdk with a virus in it? You should always download SDKs from from the official site. If you did, and something was recognized as a virus, it wasn't actually one. Antivirus software has plenty of false positives, especially when dealing with something that configures an operating system. The missing files are possibly what's preventing you from connecting via adb. You should have adb.exe in

C:\path-to-android-sdk\android\platform-tools\adb.exe

If you redownload the sdk, and still have the same issues, then you most likely have a driver issue. Uninstall the drivers through device manager, then follow the instructions mmarz11 posts for rooting your phone, he has details on driver issues (google it, I'm trying to stop posting links to other forums, my bad habit).

I think I got a virus warning when I downloaded the Android SDK, but I knew where I downloaded it from, so I ignored it.

I downloaded all my files from a million different places. I think a majority of it was from eclipse or forums on how to's because I couldn't get java to work forever. I also am not sure if it was a virus from there or not because I downloaded many things for my phone at that time and I had some root kit on the PC so there was crap all over it.

I finally got my phone to go into emergency mode and ADB is all configured and working now, I deleted it and redownloaded via android sdk, it just cannot connect to or find my device. I think I may have deleted all the software or something. The kdz cannot connect to my phone however I did get the lg mobile support tool to connect and read phone info. It cannot find a software version. But whenever I go to update software it disconnects and it will only read it in recovery mode. I had a nandroid back up, as well as titanium but i don't know what to do with them.

Thank you for your post I appreciate any and all advise and I am new to the forum thing so I apologize if I posted in the wrong spot I am just desperate its been like a week with no phone and no good news....

If you connect your phone with power on, and open a command prompt, and cd into the folder with adb, then type adb shell, what happens?

So.... clarify for me. I rooted my Optimus V only to use Titanium Pro to uninstall crapware. So the gist of this thread is DONT DO A FACTORY RESET if you rooted AND installed a custom ROM right?

In other words, if I saw the need someday it would be kosher for me to do a reset? Assuming this is the case since I still run the original VM interface only I rooted it with Gingerbreak and removed crap with Titanium Pro. I found a few handy root-only apps along the way but nothing extraordinary.

correct i have done numerous factory resets with the stock Rom rooted with no issues,do not install a custom recovery if you do not plan to use a custom Rom,or if you do, create nandroid backup first within the custom recovery.this way you can return to the Stock Rom,

If I do a factory reset on my phone, will I lose my contact info?
If you are rooted, you will lose your phone, don't do a factory reset if rooted!

Otherwise, yes, you will lose contact info when doing a factory reset on the stock software. You should be able to repopulate it when signing back into google accounts by choosing to backup and sync accounts.
