Root Water damaged

I have dropped my Desire maybe three times in the nine months I've owned it. One of them was in a toilet the other night. I quickly grabbed it and fished it out. It spent about three seconds in the toilet. After taking off my gel case I decided to turn it off then pull the battery, after two seconds I decided it was taking too long and pulled the battery. After I dried it out I tried a reboot but got stuck in a boot loop. I re-flashed the ROM, which managed to let me start it, although my screen kept flickering and it kept entering car mode. I ran a few quick backups of things I wanted and then pulled the battery. After a few hours in rice things had mostly started to work fine, but for good measure I wiped the phone and re-flashed.

Just to be sure, I let it sit in a bag of rice for 24 hours and now it's sitting in my lap working like nothing ever happened. The water damage indicator is still perfectly white even.

Needless to say, I think I lucked out.

ok....im gonna say this once...people listen closely...

STOP USING YOUR PHONES NEAR THE CRAPPER!:D:D:D;););)
(only messing)

but seriously...what is it bout Desire users (myself included) who cannot bare to point the phone down for just a couple minutes..I mean with the poster above that makes what? 3..4? people who have dropped the phone in the loo...:p:p

Well I've decided to air my shame. I hydrated my Desire twice in the last 2 weeks!

First time I managed to throw my phone into the shower before getting in. Cue a mad panic, battery pull and frantic towel dry. Thankfully it seemed that the water had not made it past the battery space and the phone worked fine.

Then earlier this week I managed to drop it into the washing up bowl. Worst thing was our hot water heater hadn't been on so I boiled a kettle full of water and poured it into the bowl. Hadn't got round the adding the cold when my phone decided to take a dip. This time I had to pause before (stupidly) deciding to thrust my hand in and grab the phone. I reckon it was submerged for about 5 seconds maximum. Anyway, took the back case off and pulled battery/cards and dried what I could with a towel but there was noticably more water around. I put it in a jar of rice and then later on transferred it to some paper napkins filled with rice and put it above the radiator for a few hours.

Whilst transferring it from jar to rice/napkin pouch I noticed that water was visible behind the glass (?). Quite a lot too. Probably covered about 5-10% of the display. This much water couldn't be seen at first when I put it in the jar. I wonder if:
a) Water all collected together after being kept still in the jar for a few hours
or
b) As the water was so bloody hot, it may have been that condensation formed afterwards due to cooling down.

Maybe it was a bit of both.

Anyway, after several hours in the pouch I returned it to a fresh jar of rice and left it there overnight. Then the following afternoon I sealed it in a pouch of silica gel and left it for a further 24 hours. The moisture had gone entirely (from what I could see).

Put the cards back in and booted the phone up. Everything seems to work. The only thing is that there seems to be some screen damage in the form of streaky lines/patches where the display is darker. Most noticable on white/light coloured backgrounds (Google homepage for example). Now it's not enough to stop me using the phone and after forking out

Lol folks never cease to amaze me! I am super careful these days! If I am not using my phone its in my jean's pocket! I never hold it in my hand esp after that freakish month back in 2007. I still cant believe I lost 2 phones under the same circumstances in space of two weeks! Lessons learnt big time!

Does the Desire come with a curse?

I've never been so clumsy with a phone! :o

Well I've stopped taking it into the bathroom or kitchen as a precaution.

Are guides allowed to use language like that? :D
Curse is a normal English word, also often mentioned in children's books. Carrier names (Orange, Vodafone) are also normal words, well advertised among population. So, what's wrong with putting one normal word next to another normal word (especially, if the combination seems to be true...)? :D

I apologize for going off-topic. So, about the water damage....

Cock is a normal word. Old macdonald had one, but it can also mean something else.

:)

No, I'm not calling anyone chicken or something falic. It's just the first thing that came (no pun intended) to mind. Possibly as I've recently been to the toilet.

This post just gets worse and worse. Re editing it to try and second guess comments made by people... probably dean..

Ha ha love it, well I'm on voda so that must be why mine went for a swim.
Also depending on which side of the world you hail from fanny has a couple of meanings. And all Americans have one! Lol.

You think you have it bad across the pond? Over here we have curses like Telus, Rogers and Bell. They nickle and dime you to death on every little thing. Three year contracts are almost standard. And if you ask them why their prices are so high, they say it's to remain to competitive. Because obviously being expensive makes customers flock to you. Sorry for the rant.

On topic: My phone is still working like a charm, four days on from taking a swim. Spends less time in the bathroom now..

Ouch@3 years contract! At once point it seemed that might happen in the UK too. But the EU have told the mobile industry to cap it at 2 years. Phewwww

Guys I need help. My sister's phone has a problem. The ringer volume is constantly in the loop It wont let the phone sleep even if I disable it. So I am trying to find the files within the XJ MIUI 1.6.3 rom to delete it. Trouble is, Im not sure what to look for!!? Any ideas?? I deleted audio files before but the ringer volume problem is still there.....

Basically the ringer volume is knackered. Im sure the water is the culprit here. What happens is that the ringer volume message constantly flashes on the screen just as the phone goes to sleep. If I keep the ringer volume to the max it dwindles down and even then the message flashes. Disabling the ringer via the menu doesnt do anything either so I wondered if there is a file within the rom I can delete to disable it permenantly.

There's a slight chance it could be that somewhere along the way the software got messed up, unlikely, but possible.

Maybe a wipe and reflash would be in order.

Ive wiped flashed etc etc for past few days. The problem still persist!

Could you elaborate on that abit more mate?

Autostarts is an application that allows you to disable applications listening for events.

For example, if I change my ringer mode to silent, audio manager is listening for that event. When it happens audio manager "hears" the event and it changes its displayed informkation to reflect that state change. In autostarts I can prevent audio manager listening for that event.

However, I have looked through and cant see anything that would solve this.
