Ok I Have The Metro Pcs Huawei Ascend And Everyone Is Talking About The Upgrade To The 2.2 Os . Can U Tell me How You Get That Upgrade Please ! xD // !

Hello and welcome to the Ascend Forum. We have an official thread in the Guide that is updated on a regular basis regarding any future 2.2 upgrade. Please refer there for current info and speculation.

Ok So I Called Huawei And They Said That There Is A Upgrade Available For Metro pcs And Cricket . But The Carriers Have To Release And They Have No Information On When iT Will Be Released .

Sounds like a case of "Lets keep them confused for a while, Maybe they'll forget about the update." I certainly couldn't wait any longer. I am glad I didn't. Icarus is worth the small amount of time I put into flashing it. ^^. Besides, I really do think Icarus is going to be faster than the official 2.2. Either way you look at it, 2.2 will still have the bloatware. It most likely will still have minor lag. Only thing I'm looking forward to it doing is making my voice dialer work. LOL That's the only darn thing I can't get to work!

Re: the voice thingy! Did you ever download Vlingo from the market? It's a free app that is awesome for sending voice calls, messages, emails, just about anything you want. It can do your grocery shopping, make your travel arrangements....just ask and you shall receive! NO LIE!!!! LOL

My friend who has an iphone put me onto it. She showed it to me and I said "I'm gonna get that right now." And she said I couldn't that it was just an iphone thing. And I sat right there by her and got it free from the market. It was exactly like her version. She was amazed. hahahaha !!!

Feel free to settle in and read some of our awesome threads under the sub-section for rooting your phone. This is a great place to start to get some ideas. There are a few things you can do with a stock phone. Like for example you can try to download a different canvas (Home screen launcher). I always recommend Go Launcher Ex or Pro Launcher. These are both good. Make sure to try a cache remover for a non-rooted phone. I recommend aCCleaner. Another big thing is that if you are stock, The more widgets you use, The slower you go. These are the best recommendations I've got outside of putting a custom rom and/or rooting your phone. ^^.

Really great advice, September! Another suggestion I would make for Cooter is to read the threads in the sticky Guide. Especially read the Favorite Apps thread to learn some of the coolest apps to get at the market. There really are a lot of things one can do with their phone even if it isn't rooted.

When I bought mine from Metro, I told them I did not want to turn it on until the following weekend, and they let me buy it and leave. They told me, well you will have to come back HERE to activate it, meanwhile when I was ready, I simply dialed *228, and easily activated it. They just want to make that extra $10 on the so called activation fee... meanwhile, if you buy a phone online from their site, there is no such charge.

I Just got off the phone with Metro and no news when 2.2 will be out.

Hi everyone, I have had my Ascend for about 2 months. I keep noticie some of the Bloatware starts up automatically, in particular Midnight Bowling 2 Trial and Uno Trial, both from Gameloft!

So, I reviewed rooting my phone. I have Android Task Manager running with Auto Kill on those two apps. Somehow they keep starting on their own.

Now, though, with 2.2 coming out, should I wait for the update before I reconsider rooting my Ascend?

How hard is it to update if it is rooted?

That is exactly correct. It is the app you use to root the Ascend. I rooted mine recently and I love how much faster it's running since I jacked the speed up to 600 Mhz and froze a bunch of unneeded apps.

For calls all you've got to do is go to settings> Phone ringtone> Music> Whatever song you want. As for SMS, Since I use a third party app, I use the app to make a ringtone selection for it. There are other ways like naming a folder on your SD card, Etc. There should be more information on this site about that. ^^.

droid as in Droid or droid as in 'droid? is it an ascend? or do you need re-directioning? (i think i made up a word...)

anywho, most of the time you can find it with your file manager and long press it. a menu pops up and "apply as ringtone" or "set as..." apperars. poke it.
