I have rooted my phone with gingerbreak as I couldnt get Z4 to work, Installed Titainium Backup and removed some bloatware, no problem. But not all....it wont let me remove:
loopt 4.0.6
mail@metro 7.56
metro backup 1.38
my extras 3.0.14
pocket express 6.3.0.1
top games 1.0.1
uno 3.0.4
virtual card 1.35
When you try to uninstall these apps you get the same error message "cannot remove system app. failed to locate the apk file"
I am with Metro and running 2.2 Froyo if that helps

Hello and welcome to the forums. For 2.2 Froyo Ascends you need to use the newest version of the app Root Explorer to get rid of the bloatware. Older versions of the app won't work. (nor will TB) You will have to change from R/O (read only) to R/W (read/write) at the top. Good luck, and don't delete any Google apps!

I picked up the Huawei M860 used off CL for $15...!
I went ahead and rooted the device with Z4root and tethered it to run inet on my laptop. Still working on dumping some more bloatware via Titanium Backup.. I also have my device over clocked and have to say that besides the raspy sounding voice calls.. I love this phone!

Okay, i am completely lost, first i was looking for a thread on how to improve your texting because it seems there is some lagging everytime i try to type fast and then i'm reading something about 'rooting' your phone? I already have the z4root.apk downloaded on my phone but i really need a step-by-step instructions, especially on what you have to do to root the phone. I have titanium backup too but i'm not worried about my apps being lost lol, and my contacts. Can someone please help me!! Thanks!!

Yup. Go look in the "Favorite Apps" thread. Just remember that several of them may require you to be rooted or may require 2.2 or 2.3, but lots of good ideas in there. (My personal favorites are in a rather large post very near the end.)
I was just given a Metro Ascend, rooted it as I have other phones and deleted several apps that I found in a list as being safe to delete. It appears that I must have deleted something else although I do not know what. The android market will launch then stop. I just get a white screen for a second then nothing. Gmail does the exact same thing. I was able to install Appbrain, which will browse apps but when I click to install it does nothing. I figure all of the problems are related. I tried to reinstall market from several different apk files I found and I get parsing errors. Any suggestions? The version listed is 2.1 update 1.

It sounds like you may have deleted GOOGLE TALK. Try installing an .apk of GTALK, or,if that doesn't do the trick,you may need to resort to performing a factory reset.
Tried to reinstall Gtalk, same thing still. I tried also to install the icarus mod but it stops around line 65 or so with an error that the file / directory is not found.
I do not remember exactly what the error was. I restored back with clockwork so it is working again, sort of. Should have done clockwork before the root and I would not be here lol. I really would prefer a different rom and get rid of the annoying MetroPCS welcome.

Glad you got it working, and thanks for sharing your solution. It might help somebody else out down the line.
I played with this thing Monday and Tuesday, glad to have something that worked. I never had the experience of using this stock, it was a gift form someone that was frustrated by the battery life and overall lack of performance. (due to bloatware).
Icarus ran well but it seemed to be a bit slow, actually seemed real slow. So Tuesday night I dove in and tried CM6, plus an overclocker. WOW! I tip my hat to you folks for this work, thanks so much. Now I am looking into some of the stuff that was added to the Froyo like ADW. Not sure exactly what it does or why.
And there are some apps that I really don't need, (I do not twitter). Not sure what SD speed boost does and if it is worth having. But overall the CM6 mod turns this almost into an Android

I have a Hauwei M881/H881C, which I assume is an Ascend. I have rooted it with Kingo root and want to upgrade to the latest android version. Where can I get the info? While I have rooted two phones and two tablets, I'm still a noob at this. Any help is appreciated!
