Help Wet phone

My phone fell out of my pocket down the loo, it was there for 3 to 4 secs. I had a case on it so I whipeed it all apart and ran it in fresh water (No 1s ) so no need to wash it to vigourously. I dried it for 3 days in our airing cupboard (didnt know about the rice thing). When I tried it it fizzed like an electric short, obviously not good! The phone water indicator is red and so is the battery.

I have been to a shop and they said they can send it away to see if it can be reapired but itll take 6 to 8 weeks! Its insured but they need proof its beyond economical repair.

So when its been water damaged can it be reapiared?
 
I suppose it depends on which part(s) where damaged and whether HTC can identify which parts aren't working. It could be a single part that needs replacing, it could be the majority of components.

I think all you can do is send it off and wait.
 
Yeah makes sense really. Will chat to ins company tomorrow and see what they want to do.

The car phone warehouse saleman said if the idicators were red then its not repairable, surely thats just to show its been water damaged and nowt else. He was a bit of a gobby tit to be honest, as soon as he realised I wasnt there for a sale his attitude changed completely.

Yeah, the indicators simply tell you the indicator got wet - it's not a direct indicator of how damaged the components inside are. I've even heard of people who have had the indicators turn red simply by being in a humid environment, so I wouldn't exactly call them reliable.
 
I revived a phone that went for a swim by opening it up and pouring rubbing alcohol into the battery compartment. The evaporating alcohol seemed to dry it out. I didn't use a lot, just about a teaspoon or two and waited overnight. The phone has been fine since then. Needless to say, NO SMOKING while doing this. :D
 
Turns out it is proper broken LOL. The ins company has agreed to pay up so I need another one. Shame I lost all my apps though oh well. I gather there are different Desire HDs so Ill be asking questions in another thread.

New phone has arrived and the only difference is its a 2.3.3 and its dry LOL. Logged into my Gmail acc and nowt was there. To tight to pay for any so just reloaded all the freebies I had.
 
That's a little strange mate. From what I've always understood, your phone should be linked to your Gmail account... the paid for apps are the one's that download for me first!
 
Why not sign into the Android Market on a computer and see whether it recognises that you are registered for a copy of the programs that haven't downloaded? I've not tried it, but maybe you'll also be able to force them to download from there.

Looged in on PC andall it shows are the APPs Ive downloaded onto the replacement. Oh well, thanks for the advice guys!
 
If they've had it that long and they've stopped responding to emails, I'll be honest and say it doesn't look good unfortunately. Sorry, that's probably not what you wanted to hear.

Send them another email, stating if they do not contact you in 5 days (or pick a time), explain you'll be contacting police and/or trading standards. They have a number on the website too, have you tried calling that?

Have you paid for the repair already? Paypal/your debit/credit card might be able to give you the details (address etc.) of the recipient of the transaction, just in case it differs from where you actually sent the phone.
 
I would forget the email's mate. Get right on the phone to them and if you dont get any joy there, like Prez said get straight on to trading standards.

Let us know how you get on with the phonecall.
 
I know mate... what I meant was, call them and say that you will go to the police... especially if they've not been responding to emails!

Yeah your right mate, call, if no joy phone the police. Maybe we need to get a sticky at the top of the forums warning about this mob.

Rang the guy again today - he apologised for not getting back to me yesterday as promised. I asked why they had kept it for 2
