I'm the guy Joyce was talking about when he mentioned people who read ten pages of ten books every night. In this case, I'm reading five.

  • The Aesthetics of Resistance, Vol. 1, by Peter Weiss (picked it up for the Kindle when it was on sale for $5)
  • The Kingdom of Shadows, by the progenitor of cyberpunk and coiner of the word steampunk, K.W. Jeter (who actually formats his Kindle Editions himself)
  • The Waves, Virginia Woolf's gorgeous novel/poem, formatted in LRF for the Sony PRS-350 by the late impeccable Patricia Clark of Mobile Read
  • Pick-up (which is not about an old truck), by Charles Willeford
  • Lydia Davis's translation of Swann's Way on Kindle, contrasted with the Montcrieff and Kilmartin version (with which I grew up) on my PRS-350.

It is quite interesting.

Haha lovely

Decided to go ahead and start the Sean Williams old republic book. Stuck in a car for 12 hours :)

I struggled a bit to get through Fatal Alliance. Just didn't care much for the story. Deceived was much better IMO. Darth Malgus vs. the female Jedi had me tearing pages up. Story was better too.

A friend suggested the Hunger Games trilogy to me. I looked into it and being that it was labeled as a book for teens, I strayed away. However, I recently rented it from the Kindle Owner's Lending Library for my Kindle Fire. A few chapters in and it's pretty decent. I can definitely see why it has the label it has, but I could see it appealing to people outside of that age range.

Sister has been telling me to get that, supposed to be really good.

What's its about?

What's its about?

"The Hunger Games takes place in an unidentified future time period after the destruction of North America, in a nation known as Panem. Panem consists of a wealthy Capitol and thirteen surrounding, poorer districts, one of which has been destroyed. District 12, where the book begins, is located in the coal-rich region that was formerly Appalachia.

As punishment for a previous rebellion against the Capitol, every year, one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected by lottery and forced to participate in the Hunger Games, a televised event in which the participants, or "tributes," must fight to the death in a dangerous, outdoor arena, controlled by the Capitol, until only one remains."

For school: The Great Gatsby
For myself: Joker One by Donovan Campell, its about a half-empty Marine Corp platoon going to war, its really good. If your interested in this kind of book I really recommend it.

Humm that sounds very different but does sound like a good read... How is it so far in your opinion?

I'm hooked. I definitely will read the other two books of the trilogy. I have to finish Hunger Games tomorrow so that I can rent Mockingjay or whatever is the 2nd title in the series on 12/1.

Might have to give those a go also...

Crushed Old Republic: Fatal Alliance and just started Old Republic: Decieved

nice i will have to look into these my next paycheck or Christmas what ever one comes first hahah you have intreged

I don't know if you prefer paperback or like e-books, but I'm pretty sure you could score the trilogy for dirt cheap in either format on the web.

I read those Hunger Games books a while back and posted about them in this thread. They were ok, the first one was the best in my opinion. Don't think they are worth all of the hype, but they are short, quick reads. You can definitely tell they are written for teenage girls. The publisher and the movie makers are trying to make it the next Twilight. Unfortunately for them, the plot threads are pretty much tied up in the last book, so I don't think they will be able to ride that gravy train past the third one unless they go in some other direction.

I read The lady of the Camellias in every long vocation (at least 2 weeks). I don't mean I like the book very much, I just think it is a book I can finish in short time and I should keep reading.
Lol I'm sure that you could find a book that you could finish in a short time that you actually like. Just sayin'. I admire the dedication, though.
