What are you currently reading?

One of my friend that read the book told me how the quality of the writing is not that great (compared to the other books I've read). So she kind of sold me off from ever reading the books. What do you think Angel? Is the book worth reading considering I've seen the movie and totally hate it. So, it just adds more distaste to the whole franchise (including the books) lol. Most books are significantly better than the movie, is it the same with this? In your opinion, is it worth to give the series a chance?

This will be my next series after Ender's Game :)

if you didnt like the movies, you probably wont like the books. as for the quality of writing, its not meant to be an adult novel, but geared toward teens (just like the hunger games, as i recently found out). every persons opinion of the series is different. there have been books others didnt like, that i have enjoyed and vice versa...

It's not the level of the writing but the quality of the writing and thus the book. Tolkien's LOTR, Narnia, and the Giver are middle school level (grade 6 and 7) and they are some of my favourite books that I found was very well written.

i'm not sure many books can compare to those as they are also some of my faves... as far as quality, i cant really give you an answer to that.

I'm reading the Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb. I finished the first three and now on to the next. By far one of the best book series I've ever read, and I've read a lot of books. The plot is fantastic and you just fall in love with all the characters and have feelings towards them.

I love this guy he is really good

My problem is I like films but I find the books have more info in like Harry potter and the half blood prince the book is my fave one

I have only seen new moon of the twilight saga so that is why I wanted the books badly

I love teen books and I'm 23 I just like the writing styles for me but at first I hated new moon and then saw it again and love it

Is anybody interested in seeing the Hunger Games movies? Normally wouldn't be my thing, (I thought the books were ok, not great) but I loved Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss) in the movie Winter's Bone. If you guys haven't seen it, check out out, it's amazing. Plus, there are a few scenes I would like to see on film. (Katniss, The Girl On Fire!) I thought the first book was the best one, too, so I wouldn't mind seeing this one.

The book was good, the ending was ok. I think King gets so attached to his characters he doesn't know how to say goodbye to them.

You would remember it if you read it.

Spoiler Alert - Gmash don't read
Do you know what I found amusing? When King made himself a character in the book. I thought it was interesting, especially the way he portrays (sees?) himself. And I understand the purpose is to make the story more 'believable'. It's just a bit weird to read about the author as a character. Something I am not use to in my readings.

I thought how he incorporated his other works in the Dark Tower was masterfully well done. Noticably, the the Priest from Salem Lot into Wolves of the Calla

i want to see them. my bff told me the first one was the best too. i'm in the middle of the second one. has there been word of making the other 2 into movies as well?

winters bone is on instant netflix, so i'll watch it this weekend

I just finished reading "The Sisters Brothers". It went on sale for 25 cents during the Google "Play" sale. First book I've read completely on my phone.

I enjoyed it. It had been a while since I read a book.

Yeah, they plan to make them all, probably milk it more by splitting the last one into two parts which is the "in" thing to do now it seems lol. All three books are still on the best seller lists. They're expecting the movie to make more than Twilight.

Winters Bone is great. It should have won the Oscar that year. It's based on a book, too. I want to read that.

Started The Girl Who Plays with Fire last night, starts right up.. At 10% ish right now... feels like it's just picking up where the last left off. No real build up. I like that in a sequel. Sometimes, it's like the sequel touches on so much from the previous book that the first book wasn't even really *required*.

(sure it helps, but you could get the main points without reading it.)
I like the way this one is done. :D

As long as first one is a box office hit... I'm still salty they killed the golden compass planned sequels :(

Lightweight! I've read nearly 150 books on my phone :):p

That series was well written and the don't reference the previous books hardly

AJ Jacobs - Living Bliblically.
It's an amazing book about a man who works at Esquire Magazine deciding to live his life by the Bible as literally as he possibly can. It's engaging, funny, thought provoking...This is actually my second time reading it but I could read it over and over again.

The first one started really slow for me, I enjoyed it, but it wasn't something that I felt needed to be finished immediately. After the start though, what a page turner. This one starts right up. Maybe a total of three or four pages (usually a paragraph at a time) that referenced the first one.

I'm really digging it.

I actually finished twilight on Wednesday and now on New moon but I am stalled as I know the film which isn't good but now seen all the films but the books are soo different thou but like it

I am reading Shadow's Puppet, the 7th book to Ender's Game. Book 5-8 takes place on Earth and the story has gone form Scifi to world politics and espionage.

Been a while since I posted here...

Wool (Omnibus edition - books 1-5) by Hugh Howey. Really Liking it.

Finished reading this :) Got one more in the series to go! I'm currently finishing Jeffrey Archer's Only Time Will Tell. I love most of Archer's work. This one is on the slow and boring side, lol. Half way done and it's starting to get interesting. The plot evolves around the life of this poor bastard child growing up in the 1920s and the story is divided into the perspective of the different characters that interact with the child.
