The moto x will be a disappointment simply because of all the attention its gotten.

Its likely going to be a mid range phone

It will be a disappointment for two reasons. First is that Motorola hasn't been a leader hardware wise recently. The Razr HD was behind similar phones that came out at the end of the year last year and they haven't released anything since. Second, the allure of a non-nexus device running stock android is gone now that we have the S4 & One Google editions due out soon.

First - sorry for not paying attention to this thread....XDA just has a lot more going on for this phone than AF does so i have been flashing roms left and right...
but anyways here goes..

Well, it's not that the device is subsidized by Google, it's that the device is sold with a very small profit window. The GS4 and One are more expensive because Samsung and HTC are putting a much larger profit margin on the device to make money. When Google & it's partner make the Nexus device, it's sold basically at the break even point. The very small margin goes to the manufacturer, and Google breaks even and attempts to regain it through the play store.

I don't think the Nexus devices are going to sell exceptionally well. Nexus phones don't sell well compared to the mainstream flagships and they're unlocked, off contract, and cheap. I don't think a device that's 300 dollars more expensive is going to sell any better. It will have a niche market, but it's a rather small one. The average American consumer is addicted to carrier subsidies and without them won't even consider it.

HTC did make the Nexus One 3 years ago. It was a decent device hardware wise at the time, but didn't get enough publicity to sell well. I still stand by my choice of wanting ASUS to make a Nexus phone. I would also like to see what Sony could bring to the table, but would be alright with HTC or Motorola. I just don't want another Samsung Nexus.

well..okay...i don't know what to reply to this lol it doesn't seem like disagreeing..more like clarifying some of my points... :) anyways, yeah i would love to see ASUS make a nexus phone...i still have yet ot get my hands on a PadFone or FonePad but i have heard good things..

Not quite.

There's that whole android open source project thing that is a giant part of a nexus device.

I may be wrong, but I haven't seen the s4 or HTC one added to AOSP, and we likely won't because of all of the proprietary things.

Running Google android and getting updates straight from Google does not a nexus device make.

That whole open source part of it is a huge chunk that remains to be seen.

you make a really valid point that i cannot argue with :P

Agreed. Everything i have heard about the PadFone line has been positive other than the fact that they have yet to make one that has lots of compatibility with US frequencies. I actually contemplated importing the PadFone Infinity with tablet attachment until I discovered that I wouldn't get better than EDGE no matter which US carrier I chose.

I agree they have kinda flown under radar... Being popular under a kinda developmental way ...I really like my NG and hope that as they move forward they don't change a thing
